If Apple made lighter more affordable on ear folding version I wouldn’t hesitate. I do like all the colors, that is great.
I'd like a single ear version with reversible outer ear clip for sleeping. I'll likely just replace the first gen airpods before they get discontinued. As they are they would make a great pair of headphones when working at my desk, except I already invested in replacing everything with USB C. I don't want to go back to having multiple cables.

This is strange news. Apple said I can't get mine for another 2 to 3 weeks in that color and I ordered in December. Upgrading from Beat Studios.
They have been in stock on Amazon/Target here and there since launch. It really isn't anything new.

The Sony XM4’s are usually $350 but do go on sale throughout the year. Not sure where people are getting “double” the cost of AirPods Max from. I had them prior to the Max and they are decent headphones, but they were low-end heavy and the build was meh. I also HATED the companion App that you have to use and the “smart” features were half baked. You get what you pay for.

I just bought a pair on B&H, with no tax, I thought about cancelling and buying via. Amazon, but they have tax so...... I'll keep my B&H order.

I would never give this to my kids. They look like suppositories.

Amazon has Apple's AirPods Max available to ship in 1-2 business days right now, only in the Space Gray color option. AirPods Max are priced at $549.00, and as of yet we haven't seen any noticeable discounts on the Bluetooth headphones.

AirPods Max debuted last month as Apple's first over-ear headphones. Like the AirPods and the AirPods Pro, the AirPods Max are equipped with two Apple H1 chips that provide high quality sound thanks to the 10 cores that power computational audio capabilities.

Silver is also available on Amazon at this time, but shipping estimates place the headphones arriving in late February.

As a note for all AirPods Max stock, these headphones are known to disappear fast once stock is available. We'll update this article once stock is completely gone, but be aware that you may begin seeing delivery estimates slip, or stock disappear altogether, very soon.

AirPods Max feature Active Noise Cancellation technology and the same Transparency mode, Adaptive EQ, and spatial audio features that are in the AirPods Pro. If you're hunting for even more AirPods deals, we track sales for every model of the AirPods in our Best AirPods Deals guide.

Update: Additionally, Verizon has Sky Blue, Space Gray, and Silver in stock right now. The Sky Blue option has a slightly delayed shipping estimate of February 11.

Cause XM4s are ~$280 on sale right now.

That doesn't say anything about demand. Only that supply is low.
It at least tells that demand is higher than Apple expected. Yes when it comes to economics, companies don’t want to have too much inventory if the demand is low, but they also want to ship products as quickly as possible to keep up.

Purchased the XM4 from Best Buy for $279 yesterday to see if maybe I’d like them more than my Airpods Max. They’re half the cost and people online rave about them. One thing I want from the Max is just a little more bass.
After listening to them all day I’m returning the XM4 today because as you said they’re really bass heavy but not in a pleasing way. Regardless of the adjustments in the app I can’t get rid of the thick and muddy sounding bass without making the rest of the sound go off balance.

anyways the top of the band hurts my head, it’s annoying that there’s no noise to let you know when ANC is on or off when you turn off voice notifications. You must have it on to know what level your on. also the lack of external volume control buttons means I have to use the menu in my PS5 to adjust the volume and it’s beyond annoying.

I do like that they’re really light so that I can drink a glass a water without them feeling like they’re going to fall from back from my head. Also the ANC is slightly better at getting rid of higher pitched irregular noises but at the cost of a clear audible hiss.
I do think that if you like to listen to music at lower levels than the XM4s are perfect. Higher volumes they sound muddy. The airpods max dont sound great at all with lower volumes but at higher volumes they’re 👌.

Compared to the XM4 or the Bose 700, the AirPods Max just feel way more premium. I have all three. The handoff between iOS devices is also much smoother on the AirPods Max. Someone else mentioned mic quality. The Xm4 mic quality is atrocious. Bose 700 is OK, but AirPods Max seems to be the best out of the three from what other people tell me.

I can't use my other headphones now after using AirPods Max. Nor can I use my AirPods Pro for that matter. These are terrific, terrific headphones.

I was just talking about online orders. Apple reserves some of every product for in store purchase daily.
I can order through the app and have it delivered to my house in 2 hours for a $9 fee. That’s basically online ordering in my book.

They are currently $278 at several locations online. Hence the 'double' comments.
