Still don't understand this.
It must be a simple task to know when something is wearing them, or put them down on the desk.
Just automatically turn them off when they are put on the desk.

This is one of those cases when removing one thing is actually good, and when people say “just give me the option” and giving the option ends up being a bad idea. If people are used to turning off everything they can, they will do it. And I don’t want to think if the % of battery drain over x hours is worth it. We’re in that point of “good enough” for 99% of use cases. That’s actually thinking out of the box, and not giving current designs for granted.

Wait a minute. So you’re telling me if I had these I’d have to go into the settings and disconnect them every time I’m done using them and then connect them thru the same menu when I do want to use them? Rather than just turning them off and on?

Now that’s a bit dumb...
Or you could just use them as designed, set them aside when you’re not using them, put them back on to use and they’re already working... why invent stupid rituals for yourself that take more effort and accomplish nothing useful?

You should definitely be put in charge of all product design decisions at Apple. They haven’t be able to make much money with their existing designs, none of which are very popular or sell very well.
How them Apple batteries selling? How much of the market is Apple TV grabbing? How about HomePod? Yeahhhhhhhh. They aren't all winners. And if your point is that because their products sell well that they're all brilliantly designed....hoooboy, put down the koolaid.

What if you just take them off without putting them in the case, but also disconnect bluetooth on the iPhone?

Spending 500+ on a pair of bluetooth headphones whose battery was literally designed to die faster because it can't be shut off is one of the stupidest things I've ever seen someone defend.

Even with a software "fix" they are still going to have to be ON a little to detect when you push any button to turn them fully ON. I suspect none of the buttons physically make or break the connection to/from the batteries. Maybe that's why the next shipment won't be until March? Just guessing. :)

Well most of those major products do include power buttons.
Do you think tapping the “power” button on your iPhone turns it off?

Do you think long-pressing it and selecting “slide to power off” really turns it all the way off? (Surprise, it’s still awake enough to watch for the button being pushed again, to turn it back “on”.)

Apple products haven’t had real power buttons for a long time now. The only way to fully power them off is to wait for the battery to completely drain, or remove the batteries (increasingly difficult these days).

Same thing that happens to normal AirPods, they drain battery quickly because instead of being paired, they're now searching for a new device (in the case of AirPods Max, they do this for 2 hours before going into a deeper sleep state).

There has been thing thing that's been around for a little while. I can't put my finger on it. Hmmm what is it called. OH YEAH A POWER button. Who would have thunk.... Sometimes Apple make the dumbest decisions... Innovate my ass...

This is great info. While I'd prefer having a on/off function of some kind, I like the instant-on feature.

However, I question this decision as it pertains to longevity. Isn't it bad for batteries to be constantly charging?

How easy is it to replace the battery on these? (They're Apple, I know...)

Are regular/Pro AirPods doing the same thing?

As awesome as these are, these issues give me pause.

Exactly. The battery will have to be replaced way too early.
Yep just like the regular AirPods, which also never stop draining even when in their case. The nice thing about those is at least the case tops them off. The case for the Max only serves to embarrass the buyer.

So when AirPods Max are connected to an iPhone, what's the battery drain on the iPhone like? Similar to other AirPods?

within the settings of the airpods Max is the option to enable the transparency button as a power button. It seems very few are reporting this.

*edit* I stand corrected, it seems this just turned off Noise cancellation, not turning off the headphones entirely.
