I guess people need the dopamine hit from staying home for weeks/months
I've probably saved at least $10k on vacations/restaurants/events not taken this year, and I can't imagine I'm alone in that. If someone were to spend $550 on headphones that will last them 3-5 years at least...why is that such a big deal?

Also, I've bought enough Apple stock over the years that these sort of purchases pay for themselves, many times over. I like to think of it more of a rebate/dividend re-investment...

"So... Tim.. yeah... so we can't make the new AirPods the same color blue as the iPhone 12 Pro."
"Well they can't be the same blue as the 12 and 12 mini, we need to give the pro more value."
"I could just make them a new shade of blue."
"I'll issue a press release."

BREAKING NEWS: APPLE INVENTS SKY BLUE!

Indeed.

It's the same story over and over again, lately – with the exception, maybe, for the HomePod, maybe...

It's ugly, pricy, Apple is doomed, terrible, LOL, what are smoking at Apple, etc. ... and yet it's selling like hot cakes. :)
It's not selling like hot cakes. They underproduce them. They do it with several products to boost the hype.

You do realize the stock might have been like 500 pieces and them "selling out" is all marketing, right?
Is this some kind of joke? You know "might have been like 500" is a completely unrealistic (and fabricated) assumption of the likely real limited stock scenario... why use a lie as a foundation to your "selling out"/marketing point?

Enjoy your new purchase and the 10 minutes dopamine from it mate

Hmm … you had a microwave in the 60's? Time traveling to the mid-late '70' and stealing home appliances. ;)

"Microwave? Sorry, never heard of that brand".

I probably wouldn't use these for "critical" listening but I'm pretty impressed and surprised how much I like the AirPod pros for convenience listening (mowing the lawn, watching movies, etc.) Might check these out if the cost isn't too insane.

(edit) Ugh … $550? Nah. I think I'll pass for now.

Jesus **** people are actually buying them as well 😑
They will sell like hotcakes. Rando people will try any look clever by whining about the price, or claiming they can build a better set using duck tape, pipe cleaners and salvaged parts from the 80s stereo system. It's clearly a niche product. And it will sell. If it isn't for you, why comment?

Ha! We had some friends that got an "Amana Radar Range" I think around '76. To my memory it was the first microwave sold to consumers. Big huge thing with chrome trim. Would be a sweet retro thing nowadays … to zap your entire house. ;)

It is definitely a low volume production run, but there are plenty of people wanting these. We all know they are going to receive excellent reviews, it just boils down to are they $150+ better that the offerings from Bose/Sony/B&W.

Its not like you're buying hot air or a rollercoaster ride, it comes with a two-week window to send it back if you dont like the sound, a 1-year warranty against defects, and being Apple it might be lasting well into the future... for the people that have the silver, they might want to try them, as said... if for any reason they're not up to hype or you dislike the sound, dopamine hit over, you just send them back...

I'm not surprised these are going fast. Contrary to what many here think, they are actually not that expensive if the quality of sound delivers, it's on par with many audiophile headphones ( usually in the 400 - 1500 $ range ). And these have many features nowhere to be found in similar headphones, like the surround sound for movies.
I might buy them if I can try them first.

EDIT: wait... no cable connectivity ??? wth.... that changes everything... maybe they are overpriced after all..

EDIT 2 : lol..ok, I re-take that back again. Other readers indicated to me that you can in fact use an optionnal lighting to jack adapter. So it's all good.

It a niche product but will sell like hotcakes? In my opinion, this is similar to the book Apple sold for some crazy amount.... Will some people buy it? obviously, I see these as a Homepod 2.0 debacle. Most consumers can not justify paying 300-400$ for "high-end" headphones. I do not see these doing well in a world of Sony and Bose offering great gear for less. I am sure the "reviews" are gonna be wild and a lot of hyperbole will be used to describe how amazing they are, but most people outside of reddit and forums like this will not care whatsoever.

WAITING FOR AIPODS MAX MINI SE

I'm typing this on my new M1 Air, listening to Apple Music on my new Homepod Minis, checking my Oxygen levels on my Series 6 watch attached to my iPhone 12 PM and following the news on my 4th Gen Ipad Air. Hard pass Apple, i'm tapped out. 😜
If I were in the market for high end headphones I would consider these, but i'm not, and poor to boot.

These do not appeal to audiophiles though....
