They don't have to hold back production for the ruse to work - they only have to give the false appearance of demand and/or scarcity for a short period of time to arouse FOMO interest, then open the full spigots full bore once that goal has been accomplished. It's guerrilla marketing.It makes no sense to spend the money to design a product, set up manufacturing and a supply chain, invest in marketing, etc and then artificially hold back production.
I realize that doesn't align with the narrative the unhappy are clinging to in order to feel better.
