It makes no sense to spend the money to design a product, set up manufacturing and a supply chain, invest in marketing, etc and then artificially hold back production.

I realize that doesn't align with the narrative the unhappy are clinging to in order to feel better.
They don't have to hold back production for the ruse to work - they only have to give the false appearance of demand and/or scarcity for a short period of time to arouse FOMO interest, then open the full spigots full bore once that goal has been accomplished. It's guerrilla marketing.

They will sell like hotcakes. Rando people will try any look clever by whining about the price, or claiming they can build a better set using duck tape, pipe cleaners and salvaged parts from the 80s stereo system. It's clearly a niche product. And it will sell. If it isn't for you, why comment?
Dude the point is that the actual same-tier headphones all cost $350,- (Sony XM4's, Bose 700 etc) and apart from the Bose are foldable. And for $550,- I can buy a pair of actual nice open-back headphones if I don't need headphones for on-the-go.

The product is just weird, it's a headphone for on-the-go (because why noice-cancellation and closed-back), that's not usable for travelling because of the sheer-size you would need in your backpack or whatever to store them.

Funny I squeaked in and got the blue ones before the ship date jumped. :)
Same, I think they are a bit overpriced. But I can't really say that until I try it right? I got the blue as well and will give them a try up to the Jan 8 return date to see if they are worth keeping.

Sky blue is probably really limited more than crazy demand, for artificial hype of the color.

the silver and space grey are still in a week or two

even if these are the best headphones known to man, I cant afford them right now / not much desire to.

I dont use my Bose QC700 enough as it is and I got them a year ago

I just made a massive purchase on a ps5, im good for the rest of the year (which isn't long)

Hmm … you had a microwave in the 60's? Time traveling to the mid-late '70's and stealing home appliances. ;)
Errrrr…… But, you're wrong:

When did the Amana Radar Range come out?
1967

The convenient, time-saving microwave oven was becoming a practical necessity for a fast-paced world. People had less time to devote to cooking. Amana's Radarange, introduced in 1967, was the first compact microwave oven made for home use.

I'm shocked they are selling many at that price. Maybe the stock was pretty limited...

Reportedly the product had quite a few developmental setbacks, swappable headbands, touch sensitive controls... it stands to reason Apple rushed to get these out for the Holiday season despite those so production is probably not quite where they would want it.

Initial worldwide supply is still probably somewhere in the 6k figure area.

I have a firm policy that any electronic product I buy, has to be black, so I automatically jumped the gun and purchased the SG/black version of these headphones without even looking at the blue version.

That blue looks really subdued and refined! Should've purchased it! Damn it!

anyone else sharing the opinion that that cans look like sh**? For the given sound of iphones & co they can't be that high-classy (maybe that's why the didn't put AptX in it). Too expensive...
Maybe in few weeks they come with wheels for the box around the corner +500$
Ughh Stevie come back...

they have plenty of headphones. black and silver seem to be well in stock.

IT's the oddball colors that have longer ship times. But you would expect them to not stock too many pink/green/blue headphones at launch compared to the more timeless neutral colors.

You do realize the stock might have been like 500 pieces and them "selling out" is all marketing, right?
Yeah it has NOTHING to due with literally EVERYTHING being short on stock/supply chain issues due to COVID. It is only to build up hype right?

I believe in a year two, just like how HomePod sales stank, they are gonna drop the price on these to a more reasonable $350 and special discounts of course like $300 with the purchase of any M2 Mac.

Fun fact I just found out. Add engraving to your option and shipping dates fall back again for some reason. Mine was initially showing first week Jan and now it’s dec 22

Bought without reviews or any sound tests? What are you people doing for work? I need a better job.

Just here for the comments saying they're only selling out because Apple under-produced to make it look like they were popular but in reality, only ten people have bought one AND IT'S ALL A CONSPIRACY AND STEVE JOBS WOULD NEVER DO THIS!
Yes, I’ve yet to meet ONE person that has admitted “You know, I wasn’t even interested in this thing. BUT, now that folks say it’s not easy to get, yeah, gotta get one now.” Certainly not enough to consider “rarity” a marketing ploy. Any company would have to report to shareholders why they had stock on hand yet opted to NOT sell it and make the profit immediately :D

Apple: You see it makes people WANT it MORE.
Shareholder: Yes, but, I’d rather you do something that make MORE people WANT it. A person that wants it now but has to wait a month to get it... that’s bad. We could have already booked those profits! Plus, they’re only going to buy the one, whether now OR later... why make them wait for it? There’s no logic in that.
Apple: Well, we read on the internet that it works....

Yeah, I suspected that might be the case.

$549 for these things? Get out of town!
you got to be dum to pay this.
I have studio quality headphones with HUGE 50 ounce BASS magnetic drivers that cost HALF.

Oh...so Apple is not holding back production, but instead storing manufactured units in warehouses. Because successful companies like Apple love to hold inventory!

When I saw the blue AirPods Max this morning I was ready to order. But...seeing delivery is now 3-4 months out I decided to wait until March of next year. Hopefully I'll still be interested in ordering then, especially after reading some reviews.

Looks like your "guerrilla marketing" is working pretty well for Apple keeping those blue AirPods Max in inventory - and my money in my wallet!
