Another red flag from The Verge... No fast charging. Are you kidding me?
A standard feature of mid to high end wireless headphones is getting like an hour after charging for like 5 minutes.
Heck, even the AirPods Pro do that.
From the website - https://www.apple.com/airpods-max/#footnote-5 - A quick five-minute charge delivering 1.5 hours of listening.

Have you even checked out the web page for the headphones or are you just going to be lazy and rely on reviews?

I can’t judge these without hearing them myself but have some issues with the design choices

I understand people saying anyone with these is likely to have an iPhone which has lightning chargers. The issue is that it’s heavily rumored that within the next couple of releases the iPhone will lose its port. Apple is moving to wireless charging. While that may or may not be an option for headphones of this size... the remainder of Apple’s lineup that will continue to use ports for the foreseeable future are the iPad or macbook which both use USB-C. Long term it doesn’t make sense to me to include lightning for these if apple’s primary lightning device is going to lose that part and only usb-c will remain on the rest of their products

I don’t mind expensive headphones and the full review will tell the whole story.. but for substantially more money they should sound much better than the competition and not be comparable to them. People are talking about the next tier of audiophile headphones as potential competitors but apple isn’t marketing these as reference grade monitors. That doesn’t mean they don’t sound good or won’t sell well, but it’s a tougher sell to a group of people at the very high end that likely aren’t considering these or even the alternatives by Sony or Bose

The case also seems like a bad design. It doesn’t look good from the pictures, and many people put their headphones in a bag. The case doesn’t seem to provide a lot of protection.

Totally covet these, but have other spending priorities (in spite of the reasonable, yes, reasonable price). Apple even put thought into the shipping box. I so love their design ethic. They assume nothing.

Not a fan of these headphones.
i thought the time of big over the ear headphones was over.
Not as long as they provide the best listening experience.

When reviewers receive these products, do they get to keep them? Or do they pay a reduced price if they want to keep them?
They do not get to keep them, they have a set time period to use the review item and then they are required to send it back. Failure to do so means no more early access review hardware. No, Apple doesn’t discount this stuff if you want to buy the unit. In certain cases you are reviewing an early production unit that doesn’t even have a valid “real” production serial number and is never meant for resale, just demonstration purposes.

Very skeptical that iJustine returns anything (or MKBHD for that matter). Maybe some do (The Verge) but not them.
Most that do explicitly say they are review units and will be returned.
I can be sure on 2 things, you will see iJustine wear these in future videos and
Did not lay out $550 for them.
I'm sure they more than earned them and Apple couldn't care less. But it's more the principle and appearance. Letting them keep is basically a paid review. But who really cares? I think it's sad people on here are arguing whether MKDHDDH or iJustine are credible or not. LOL I'd never heard of MKDHDDHGD til this year but he's a joke. And iJustine? The fact she uses i in her name is kinda telling how long she's been around. You know this forum is going downhill when you see link after link for idiot youtubers like this. "not according to MDHDIDHB" He didn't like it..lol

Did anyone mention if they are bluetooth compatible? What if you want to use them for Teams/Zoom calls on a Windows 10 PC?
The Airpods are.
They are BT yeah. Will work on PC.
I think this isn't a bad thing seeing as they do switch off once in the case and 20 hours of listening? seems fine to me.

I think for a lot of people having to put in a case is particularly “long”. But from Niley review he said they turn off after x amount of time whether in or out of the case, apparently. As the AirPod Pros don’t turn off if just laying on the desk.

If people are looking for a 'consumer' perspective then they should go check out the tech reviewers but the one thing these tech reviewers will not be able to do is offer any credible view or advice on how the headphones match up to other manufacturers headphones that are within the same price range. People will have to wait till until audiophile reviewers get their hands on the headphones because these are the people who will be able to offer credible reviews on both audio performance and comparability against headphones in the same price range.

Yep. I just watched MKBHD's first impressions, and nothing. I feel like I wasted 10 minutes of my time (which might not be fair because it was only first impressions), but the main stuff will be the review.
Thats what he does. All about views and clicks. When Airpods Max were first announced he made a stupid video....while he in all likelihood had them sitting on a desk next to him. Now making another video to stay tuned for his full review.

From the tech specs:

For sure on that.

The comments remind me of when Apple introduced the iPod, iPhone, iPad, Watch, AirPods, etc. A ton of negative froth from the breathless bent on giving Apple a good bash. Always amusing.
To be fair, the iPhone got a $200 price drop, and the iPod didn't really become popular until it got a $200 price drop too...

And no one is saying that they're bad headphones (actually I am, I think they're too heavy, but I'm in the minority), just way overpriced for what they bring to the table. And they should be about... wait for it... $200 less.

See the pattern here?

Yawn. The classic “early access review.”
Gee, I wonder if the “reviewers” are gonna be 100% unbiased. Hate to see them lose their good grace with Apple. Also, it’s gonna be just like the HomePod “early reviews,” where it gets compared to “more expensive” offerings, that way Apples product seems like a bargain. Rather than be compared to Sony and Bose, it’ll be compared to actual, high end, audiophile grade gear.
So only negative reviews are legitimate?

Depends. I keep everything Amazon sends me. Reviewing does get old though. Have to take a break now and then or I'll have boxes piled up. But hard to turn down some of the stuff.

That off is for turning off the noise cancellation or transparency features, not for turning off the headset. Air Pods Pro has the same software setting. I believe the OP was talking about a power off.
If ANC tech is off... what else is there to be on? Genuine question.

With my B&O H9i's, I only ever turn on / off the headsets ANC via a side-mounded switch, and with that switch, they headphones are off.

I think this is just people not getting lots of time to really play with the new kit in the rush to get a video out (which is fair enough), but I highly doubt Apple would overlook such an important thing.

How did you get involved with testing products for Amazon?

Oh dear god, no! I don’t think proper cans can ever be replaced, I’m not referring to the AirPods Max here, just in general.

I’ve never met a set of buds that can compete with nice, big, over-ear cans, with (rather obviously) significantly larger drivers.

I do have a few sets of buds, wired and wireless, and they’re good, I won’t argue that. Great things can be achieved with those tiny little beasties. But not to the extent I’d want to throw out any of my full-sized, over-ear cans.

But, hey, we’re all different, which is nice. One mans meat and all that.

As for these particular headphones. It’s nice to get some opinions on them now, rather than them being a completely unknown entity. But I’ll believe it when/if I ever put them on my own head. I’ve disagreed greatly with ‘professional’ opinions on headphones many times in my life. But then, all of our ears are different - literally, we don’t all hear the same sound, from the same source. So, time will tell.

These will sell like crazy, despite the price and the case.

Apple REALLY knows their audience, and folks will want to be seen in these.

And of course, they work with the typical Apple panache.

As far as tech reviewers out there, my go-tos are MKBHD, Dave Lee, Dieter Bohn, and of course Linus: the skeptic, if a little annoying, voice from the PC side.
