AirPods Pro 2 Likely to Feature Almost Exact Same Design, Contrary to 'Stemless' Rumors

I love the current form factor of the AirPods Pro. I only wish they shrink them a tiny bit and hopefully find a good solution that prevents the black grills to get clogged with skin oil and earwax. Also a space gray or Jet black version would be very cool! Come one Timmeh, you can do it! And while your at it, also give us an evolved version of the OG HomePod! Twice it’s original size! Okaythnxbye! ✌🏽

Agreed. I like the idea of a dark color, but I think of the times I drop them on the carpet or what-have-you … I can see myself searching for, and then stepping on dark plastic ear bud. Even if more colors are offered, I might stick with white.

The stems cause a misbalance of weight and when I run for long periods of time, the orientation of the AirPods shift. Beats studio doesn’t have stems and stay put. I’ve used them for running for a while now and they are way better

How would you know it's AirPods without the iconic design?

Hate it or love it, AirPods are instantly recognisable because of the stem and the only-white color options.

When I have my watch on that's largely mitigated because I can control the volume using the crown . . .

The only annoyance with that is you have to turn the crown for a few clicks before it starts adjusting the volume. Wouldn't it be annoying if when you pressed the volume button on your iPhone that you had to press it 5 times before it did anything? The crown should be immediately responsive.

I commented sometime ago that I wanted stemless APP2…then I got my brother a pair of current APP for Christmas (shoutout to an INSANE Amazon deal). The stems are incredibly similar to the “remote” on wired Apple buds of the past—insanely useful, insanely simple, all Apple. Hope they stick around.

The current design is very solid. The improvements I'd like to see relate to improved sound quality, better noise-cancelling and increased durability.
I don't really care whether the next version is stemless or not. But I wouldn't call the current design solid. Both my wife and I don't like how easily AirPod Pros fall out of our ears (vs. the original AirPods). The weight distribution is more towards the outside of the ear, so if it doesn't have a solid grip with the silicone in the ear canal, they just pop out onto the floor (almost into a urinal for me - caught it, but the hand that did was previously occupied keeping things straight, so...)
Anyway, I was thinking that if the new version was stemless, the center of gravity would go inward and prevent those mishaps.....but as other posters have pointed out, the pressure-sensitive controls in the stem are actually kind of nice compared to what the AirPods had. I use them all the time.

Wouldn't matter to me anyway. I'm allergic to the ear tips that Apple uses and won't ever use AirPods Pro's again. I do love the new designed AirPods though and will stick with AirPods Max when I want noise cancelling.

It's almost like these sites (cough this one included) make money by just making rumors up. Double the content when you get to tell everyone the previous rumor was false!

Seriously though I've been on this site since 2000 but the content has seriously tanked. The only surprise is when something is actually correct.

welp that sucks I have a hate for my AirPods Pro, including the case, lets say you dropped your case your AirPods Pro will fly out unlike the original AirPods from my experience,. AirPods Pro case stem slot gets pretty dirty since I work outside It just seems to get more dirtier than AirPods regular case. now for the buds themselves I like the stems I just don't like that to activate them you have to squeeze them. I would rather lightly tap them. hell my galaxy buds + is nicer to handle on my iPhone than the AirPods Pro. only cool think I like from AirPods Pro compared to my AirPods and galaxy buds + is the head tracking for music

There are only three (3) things Apple needs to do for the new Airpods Pro:
  • Improve noise cancellation
  • Improve battery life
  • Make bass deeper
That's it. No need to reinvent the wheel.

The whole point of rumor sites is to at least float them, the differentiator being how well they contextualize and try to ascertain accuracy. Also, the world has changed since 2000; Apple's probably improved procedures for keeping things under wraps, and now there're tons more rumor sources (and incentives to make **** up for the views). I'd rank MacRumors primarily for how well it's wading these new waters compared to other sites, less-so against its past self.

the design of the current airpods pro is perfect. Unless you were moving over to touch controls (yuk).

Am I the only one who likes the stems on the AirPods Pro? The pressure sensitive controls are one of my favorite features and a massive upgrade from the tap gestures on the original AirPods.
Yep, if they remove the stems, it would seem the way to trigger functions would then be limited to effectively trying to push the earbuds further into your ears, which doesn't seem like a great ideal.

OTOH, putting a secure attachment point on the side of the case seems like a really good idea.

The stems are useful, the design is iconic, there’s absolutely no reason for Apple to get rid of them.

Apple should just fix the ANC/Transparency modes which were messed up and put in a button on the case for simpler updates.
