I'm not really that surprised that there won't be any major improvements in sound, but I'm not sure what to think about a possible lack of improvement in ANC because I haven't listened to earbuds that are notably better. In terms of sound, these ANC earbuds are bound to eventually approach a limit in sound quality where improvements are increasingly minor, with what people hear just being different rather than better, similar to what you see with wired earbuds.

Let me start a workout from my phone without paying for fitness+ garbage and I'll consider buying headphones with HR tracking. Seems like a cost thing to not upgrade the drivers and ANC. Apple knows enough people will buy them with minimal updates, they have no incentive to spend more and cut into their margin.

My Apple Watch tracks my heartbeat and I always wear it. Why would I want another device to track the same data, let alone a device I only wear occasionally?

The only updates I care about are active noise cancellation, sound quality, and battery life. With the new features it wouldn’t surprise me if battery life is worse.

I was planning to buy these day one, but with this news (assuming this rumor is true) I’ll wait until my current ones die.

He didn’t say no improvements, just no “major improvements.” Which of course he can spin any which way when the new AirPods come out. If the improvements are significant, he can still say they’re not “major.” Easy way to make sure any result can be chocked up as a correct prediction.

Win-win.
Not quite, the headline says "no major improvements", the text u the story says "no notable improvement" - so, which is it?

"No notable improvement" to me means you ain't hearing it...

Oh well, we'll all be smarter very soon

Sometimes I think these analists just make stuff up to troll.

One day: New Airpods to include better sound, better noise cancellation, a heart rate monitor.
Next day, same person: New Airpods to only include a heart rate monitor, no better sound or noise cancellation.

Now we know the awe though... Awe ****, what a dissapoint.

I sure hope there's something else left unrevealed, cause absent audio / ANC improvements, that is a pitiful upgrade for a full new generation.

Sounds like air pods pro max update all over again. A very minor update. This time it’s a smaller design and heart rate sensing. That’s it.

Interesting…

My pro 2s with apple care + I got for like 210$ total back in 2024 are just fine. Will wait for air pods pro 3 version 2/ pro 4s….and then, only when I find that they’re on a great sale, as well.

And for those complaining that the watch does heart /body temp readings already…well, these AirPods would simply
Supplement that…making the readings more accurate no? Besides, you could hopefully turn off these features in order to save battery so…yeah.

I don’t own airpods, i tried the airpods pro 1 and loved it, it was my first noise cancelling experience.

I gave it to my partner since i don’t listen to music often.

Really looking forward to ap3, really hopes it has good upgrades..

lol so heart rate monitor which is useless if you have an Apple Watch?

Other than that…small changes to the fit and a smaller case.

Makes the rumour of “AirPods Pro 4” next year sound more believable.

This looks like a small refresh and the big update is next year.

The only “exciting” thing this year is looking to be the 17 Air. Everything else is a small revision. The 17 Air doesn’t interest me.

What an awesomely boring event this is looking to be.

From what I am hearing, these will not be AirPods Pro 3, those will come next year. This update will be minor just to update the charging case.

2022 - AirPods Pro 2a
2023 - AirPods Pro 2b (USB-C, IP54)
2025 - AirPods Pro 2c (smaller case)
2026 - AirPods Pro 3

I would like a 15% increase in listening time compared to the 2023 update.
