It would be nice if Apple made essentially the same features, minus the wireless - e.g. a wired version of them. I'm not a fan of having an RF device right next to my head for long periods.
You mean, EarPods? That come in the box with your iPhone?

..... Do you realize that you’ll still, “have an RF device right next to [your] head for long periods” if you instead mean something akin to Google Pixel buds (v1).

After Jobs passed, Apple managed to introduce not one, but two massive hits that any other company would die to have.

Maybe it's time to eat crow for some Tim Cook haters around here.
Fire Tim Cook because Steve Jobs would have never!

....Apple used to be that type of company, however like everything large corporation the focus on innovation is minimal and the goal is to seek out other companies to acquire or inspire while keeping the business growing, profitable and continuing development on said technology...
IMO, this statement is myopic and way to general to be taken at face value. There is some good innovation comes out of large corporations, I'll mention two:
- oled Kodak
- theory of databases IBM

And it doesn't have to be about tech products.

I could go on. Not every startup produces innovative products. Some produce popular products that are very good and sell well.

Did you even read my comment? I literally said I have one and LOVE it. I don’t care if people use APP or not. It doesn’t change how much I love mine nor does it affect my satisfaction. I was merely responding to a comment that says they see it everywhere in DC. That’s all.

If you see it everywhere in your local geographical area then the item is a success while in another area where few of any have them some may conclude with your logic used that it is not.

The area I reside I see people with AP not APP though I have a pair. It is also quite easy to just walk into an Apple Store and pick-up a pair. I am by no means stating that it is not a popular item, it just may not be in every area. Apple rarely moves stock around so early for a product release they usually just produce more as they set a number for inventory on-hand per location.

FWIW the location I live in the APP is rather affordable for the income required, maybe it’s advertising maybe something else, dunno.

Sony maybe considered a good comparison. Here was a company that innovated a lot, then went into consumer electronics, along the way entertainment with Music, Movies and Games. Seems Apple is walking a similar path, Apple Music brought a variety of external content under one service, AppleTV+, Arcade and New+. Plus wearables also something Sony still does.

Just an observation, not taking sides and it is something many analysts were predicting a path for Apple years ago. I would not be surprised if Apple starts it’s own music label under a different name due to copyright issues with another music label.

But Sony does innovate. TV shows and entertainment (as consumer electronic products) can be innovative, ie All In the Family, The Matrix, Star Wars. So if Sony is innovating, then so is Apple following a similar path.

I still wished that Apple would update the Beats X with a new model with longer battery life per charge, better quality drivers and H1 chip.

Apparently Apple isn’t interested in making another wireless wired headphones. Wait does it make sense? LOL

I dont know what the future may bring, but in my opinion PowerBeats Pro is as far as Beats wireless earbuds update can be. It also converge Beats X and the OG PowerBeats as one product.

The only think I miss from the PBP is ANC and transparency mode. Hope it will get the much needed updates, soon.

This review is more for the high-end audio person but it does seem that apple does not produce for the audiophile but for the rich/wealthy style crowed.

No but apples design is more for consumers which are not the high-end audio person but a high-tech and looks good with style customer.
Apple does not design audiophile equipment. They manufacture consumer friendly electronics where form and function meet.

If one wants audiophile equipment there are alternatives and anyone that’s surprised the airpod pro is not audiophile quality would have me surprised.

No, it just means that the product is selling itself. People are raving about these, whatever anyone wants to say about them.
So opinions vary, and products don’t sell themselves unless they have obtained consciousness and hacked Visa cards.

Or people who listen to the music, not their equipment. Like people have done for century’s.

You make that sound like a bad thing. Any product meant for pros will by definition alienate the mass market.

I am glad that Apple is at least willing to take other factors such as comfort and ease of use into consideration and not just focus on absolute sound quality in a vacuum.

No, it’s not a bad thing but apple is charging a premium for earphones which don’t sound as good as a audiophile product at the same price which also takes into account comfort or even lower priced buds which have a better reproduction for music listeners.

I think that’s the oft-underappreciated strength of Apple - the ability to make people re-evaluate just what it is they value in a product.

The MacBook Air dropped a ton of ports, and users were fine losing all these for a thinner and lighter form factor and lesser performance.

The iPhone dropped the hardware keyboard and (subsequently) the headphone jack.

The iPad ran a mobile OS.

The target market for the AirPods does not really place a premium on absolute sound quality in a vacuum, but on how the various features come together to produce that unique user experience only the AirPods can offer.

That’s the thing criticism of the AirPods (or anything that Apple does really) often fails to take into consideration - that Apple isn’t selling you a product here, but an experience. Thus the disconnect between what the critics say, and how the product ends up selling.

I have a collection of earbuds:
AirPods original,
AirPods Pro,
Samsung Galaxy Buds,
Sony WF-1000X,
Sony WF-1000XM3
To name a few.

In short, AirPods Pro is the winner on a) Ease of use, b) Comfort, c) Features such as transparency, and the quality of sound for phone conversations. And oh yes they are incomparably better than the original AirPods on sound quality for music.

Samsung Galaxy Buds are the best bang for the buck and they sound very good especially if they are used with a Samsung phone using the Galaxy Wearable App. They offer no noise cancelling but have noise isolation due to their in-ear sealed design. They have a small carry / charge case with wireless charging capability and offer excellent battery life.

Sony WF-1000X is the worst of the bunch. Practically no perceptible noise cancelling, terrible battery life and frequent drop outs for the right earbud.

On the other hand, the new Sony WF-1000XM3 is the best one for the sound quality, much improved ANC, which is on par with the Aipods Pro and the best battery life at the expense of the bulky carrying/ charging case. They are my number one choice for long Airplane travels.

However, If I had to choose among these as my one and only earbud, AirPods Pro would be the one without much thinking.

Not surprised. It’s what we wanted from the original AirPods, and still, despite the predictable whining here, competitively priced for what you get. AirPods were the dark horse of Apple’s lineup, and good on them for capitalizing on this niche.

I recall all the wining when the OG’s were announced with iPhone 7 ... thinking this was an epic move!! I was sceptical of AirPods n waited before purchasing n loving them. Got these bad boys. Cannot wait for this team to reduce HomePod and over ear cans!

Bluetooth penetrates no more than 1mm of flesh. You’re ok though with GPS radio penetrating your body from your own phone or other device and it’s range is almost 20miles from above you?!

what about cellular? What about satellite dishes - if you pass by? I’ll bet that cellular in your front pocket is harming your nads a lot more than Bluetooth would your ears or skull. But hey it’s your body n not going to tell you what to do , just trying to show relevance. Cheers.

Sony WF-1000XM3 you probably did not download and setup the Sony Connect app. Once you use that you’ll see their automated “themes” for ANC is something Apple should do with AirPods. I loved the Sony WF-1000XM3’s I had and sold this week. To me they just needed: iPX rating, slightly smaller design and more comfort in terms of staying in my tiny ears. Compli foam may work but I chew gum a LOT and they would slowly over about 2hrs get very loose - never fall out but worries me.

I still want my APP’s in black.

You can have them! ‘Course, you’d have to buy them all over again, and pay a premium to boot. But my matte black 1G APs look fantastic (especially in their shiny cherry red case!) and I’m sure the APPs will too when they arrive! But yes, it’d be nice if Apple and offered then in black too.

They're sure great for my reflexes - yesterday I caught one before it could land in the toilet :)

The thing is that I can't even tell whether the tips are all too big or too small. I used to have Etymotic in-ear buds and with those I could definitely tell when they were in the ear-canal vs. just pushing up against the opening. No idea with the Pros. Maybe my ears have just become insensitive.

I even do the awkward looking trick of pulling up on my ear with my left hand while I insert with the right. That right f*$ker just won't stay in place for more than a few minutes. The incredible thing is that even without a tight fit, they still manage to cancel noise well.

I gotta ask what where you doing with your ears standing up using the toilet?!! ?!

I have had the Sony Connect app on my phones from day one. If you refer to the Adaptive Sound Control as the “Automated Themes” I don’t find that feature useful or desirable at all. I always leave it disabled and turn the ANC manually on or off as I need it.

I have to stress the fact that a good seal is absolutely essential for the ANC to work effectively and also for the utmost comfort. I had to try among many different ear tips until I found the correct ones for my ears.

Same is true for the AirPod Pro. Only the largest of the ear tips provided a perfect seal for me and even then I realized that AirPods should not be pushed into the ear canal like the conventional in-ear buds but a gentle placement at the crown of the ear canal offers the best seal. At least that is my experience, people with different ear shapes and sizes may have a different experience.

Why are AirPods so popular?

I have Jabra Elite 65Ts and have had them for a year. Noise cancellation, and no stupid white prongs hanging down from your ears. Why does everyone think that Apple has sort of reinvented the earbud when there have been and continue to be great offerings from Bose, Sony, Jabra, etc.
