Still not convinced with these disposable headphones.

All headphones are disposable.
Granted these have batteries built in, and more batteries in the case, but still... you are not going to find any alternative that is recyclable.

I have tried most "in-ear" headphones / headsets. And so far without fail - every single one has been uncomfortable to wear. I would get itchy and sweaty in my ears - and when you run often that is not nice.

So for a long time I have been alternating between Trekz bone conduction (with ultra bad audio quality) and normal AirPods - and AirPods wore my favorite. They have never fallen out from running or exercise. But they do start to corrode if you are not vigilant in cleaning the sweat off. Then you get the green corrosion on the charge contacts. So I have cleaned mine with Deoxit from time to time. My first set the Microphones died - but got replaced under warranty. After I started cleaning with Deoxit I have not had more issues with corrosion.

But since all my bad experiences with "In-Ear" I was really on the fence about the AirPod Pro's. I tried the over-and-in ear PowerBeats Pro - but they are uncomfortable for me as well.

So a week or so after launch I thought - nahh - probably won't work for me like ALL other In-Ear - but I'll try a pair. (After trying 15-20 in ear products - expectancy was very low)

I then bought a pair - and I'm a convert.

I can use them for hours without irritation. The in ear shape fits me fine (not round like the rest - but slightly oval) - and the "ventilation" built in keeps me from the sweat build up I had with all the other in-ear products.

There are some issues /bugs I have found:
1. Activating/Deactivating noise cancellation via Siri - will on mine - make the audio between left and right ear become out of sync. You get a lovely echo effect. Cure : Put back in case for a bit - or Reset them.

2. I have issues with paring it with other Bluetooth devices. If my Bluetooth "Transmitter" X has been paired with the AirPod Pro's - and its Bluetooth is "on" - it will somehow OVERRIDE the any iDevice currently connected and playing. (Sudden disconnection - very annoying during a call...)

I do wish that Apple could find a squeeze command for Volume Up / Down though for 3rd party Bluetooth connected devices. Not all Bluetooth output devices have volume controls. Maybe Left double/triple squeeze? And Right for forwards/back? Or maybe completely configurable? :)

Transparency works "ok" but could be a lot better and maybe intensity adjustable?. Some things get slightly overpowered - while others sounds disappear.

But I do love the AirPod Pro's - the comfort - and the noise cancellation just makes them my new favorites.

Noise cancellation might not be up to Sony/Bose standard but it is 90% there - and 90% is enough in most cases. And they are a lot more comfortable to wear "napping" on a flight than my QC35's. Yes they need recharge after 4'ish hours.. But worth it.

that was my 356 cents ... :) I'm happy with them - more than happy.

Happy Thanksgiving to all in the US

i think these are mostly popular among those who's ears weren't a good fit for the regular airpods. i can't blame them, but as for the rest of us...

I think these are mostly popular among those that want active noise cancellation.
Noise Cancellation is also the reason these are so pricey (as much as those from worthy competitors such as Bose).
The selling point of these pods is entirely about Noise Cancellation.
I am not sure why so many find this so hard to comprehend.

I haven't tried the AirPods Pro yet, but if they're as comfortable and, um, *magical* as everyone says they are, I might have to get some.

They're comfortable if you don't mind the ears-plugged feeling, because your ears are literally plugged. I returned mine and am sticking to the AirPods Pro 2nd gen because I forget they're even there.

That said, the Pros are better for phone calls because they reduce echo even better than the regular AirPods in my testing, but... if you tend to just leave your AirPods in your ears, the non-Pros are better because the idle battery-life usage is so tiny. If you leave the Pros in your ears, you can't hear anything unless you leave Ambient mode on, and that drains the battery.

Anyway, they weren't for me, but I do appreciate the shorter stem.

It’s not just the anc, the transparency is also unmatched!
I compared in Best Buy against different options, and the transparency is quite good. Makes me wonder why they can’t do noise canceling on the mic audio. I would love to use my AirPods Pro in my car without anyone being able to tell that I’m in my car :)

I don’t personally have a use case for the AirPod Pros, but they really are an incredible product. They’re one of the things making me excited about Apple again.

I couldn’t be more happy with mine. Love them. They don’t fall out! Big improvement over the AirPods.

So hard to believe when Apple left off the ability (yet again) to control volume on the earpiece. Don’t tell me there is Siri as she still searching the internet for how to decrease/increase volume. I didn’t get that. Lol

Apple Watch.

Apple has been doing that for a while. Once all the pieces fall into place, they will be unbeatable.

Seems to me that Apple is already unbeatable in certain segments with the Apple Watch, tablet market, and now the AirPods are becoming more than just an ‘accessory’, they’re becoming their own product to the point where they are maturing nicely. Just wait until The AR glasses are here, then you’ll have the AirPods/Apple Watch all coincide together. Big future coming for these three products.

Interesting, a colleague of mine just got his new airpods pro, and I was one of the first (or the first) call he had with them. Surprising to both of us were 3 disconnections.

Everything else was the same for the call as previous calls had been -- the variable was the new airpods pro.

That experience a couple of days ago did not make me enthusiastic about this new product.

Hoping the battery in my right-side v1.0 AirPod finally packs up before Christmas, thus leaving me no choice but to upgrade to the Pros just in time for Santa to chuck 'em down the chimney 🎅

or you can pay Apple $60 to change that battery for you.

I believe it. I already see them everywhere in DC. I absolutely love mine.

A fellow DC person! I LOVE my AirPods. It helps me drown out traffic noise and helps me ignore all the people who want to stop you and talk all day about their organization 🙄

AirPods are thicker and longer than the EarPods. And they look even more awkward without the cables due to its super long and thick stem.

It’s not really subjective, they really are dorky looking, especially when they hang outwards or straight down.

Not sure why you think AirPods Pro “stick out” when the AirPods’ stem sticks out even more. Also it’s just a black stripe… it doesn’t look awkward at all, a long stem that swoops down from the ears looks awkward. AirPods also stick out to the side, which is ridiculously awkward.

This is a particularly bad example of fitting regular AP. Most people don't have them sticking out like that.

BUT. The new AP Pro are virtually invisible from the front. I had to tilt my head to the side to even get them in a photo. Excuse the five-head.

Interesting. I commute to school and take the subway almost everyday in NYC and don’t see AirPods Pro that often. 1st gen (and maybe 2nd gen since they look the same), yes I see everywhere. But AirPods Pro are quite rare just yet. I personally have one and LOVE it. Almost to the point where I appreciate it everyday. But I don’t see people using them that often.

Yet the highly reputable Consumer Reports said they’re mediocre and that Samsung (yet again) destroys Apple on quality and price. I know which I’m going to gift to people.

Consumer Reports is a publication best known for reviewing toilet paper.. and botching their iPhone 4 review so horribly that it became the laughing stock of this forum for a few weeks. So stick with them, their reviews are really "flush" with info.

because of all of the comments that i've read in the last 3ish years about how the airpods don't fit well inside of people's ears. oh, and how excited these people were when the pros were announced.

Correct, Apple has been moving towards and introducing more wearables over the years, however your "unbeatable" statement is kinda bold. Do you not like competition, even if one is an Apple fan competition is good for the customer.

I like my APP fwiw.

I have always had a problem with Apple's earphones may it be wired or wireless. The problem I always have with them is that it never stayed in my ears. That is why I prefer in-ear and since Apple discontinued its in-ear wired options years ago, the APP was a welcoming return. So many unused Apple wired earphones over the years.

Out of curiosity, it seems like you are holding a grudge with CR over the long discontinued iPhone 4 issue as you mentioned. Seriously if someone looks at CR for purchasing guidance so let it be, if you don't like it that is fine too. I prefer reading as many as I can and make an informed decision. I can discern hyperbole reviews from any media source. Someone would think that CR made it personal for you. All media outlets get somethings wrong, no need to put them down. Seriously enjoy life and read the review outlets that appeal to you even if it is not CR. ;) :)

Well it has only been released for more or less a month now, give it some time. I would not call it the greatest thing since sliced bread, there are relatively on the steep end for many on a budget.

I do like my APP, but just because I don't see others wearing them does not have to justify my satisfaction of use. Why do you care what other people prefer or use, is your public life a runway or stage. Sheesh.

I think we are going to need a Qi charing basket vice AirPower to charge all there wearable at night. Seriously there needs to be a better solution as it is a critical point. I don't know many wants to think about charging a Watch, EarPod case, Glasses, Phone, Apple Vibrator ;) (joking) on a nightly basis. We need revolutionary battery tech, Carbon NanoTubes you hear me. :)

Still not convinced with these disposable headphones.

LOL yeah.. for the same price I could get another Apple headphones, that is the Beats Solo Pro, or Studio 3 Wireless which have a "semi-replaceable" battery, which helps a lot for its longevity.

Some people (including me) don't like or prefer headphone cans for whatever reason. Wireless earphones or in-ear plugs like the AP/APP to make the battery replaceable would make the device larger and unstable. Though I am not a fan of not having user replaceable components, I feel the AP/APP is an exception to that. It is like wanting a user replaceable battery for a bio-implanted device. If headphone cans are your thing, good stuff but I have also tried the ones mentioned and I dislike them.

If it doesn't cost $249 a pop, I wouldn't mind also. Maybe Apple should just extend the AppleCare for this. Four years warranty for battery deterioration (which is $29 replacement), and two years for everything else. Because 90% of the time, it's the battery that makes an otherwise well-working AirPods to cease functioning.

Just like the iPhone, battery is king. Had an old 7+ that I was going to sell because it was too slow, with battery health at 78%. Paid $79 for battery replacement and voila.. the old love rekindled and I cancelled my plan for buying an 11. Battery is everything on this kind of device.
