well done good maths, and further 21/31 = .60$ a day, for 4 hours wireless free, noise cancelling headpones ? is that still a lot ? than why not spending some time on eBay buying some jaybird or samsung BUDS JEEZUS KRIST when you will stop complaining all about the price ???????

Or maybe we could not buy them until Apple figures out a way to easily screw in new battery replacements...

yea, and the most important attribute about headphones / earbuds etc is the sound quality and yet people purchase without even listening to them? If sound quality is not important (it can’t be for you), then why waste your money chasing noise cancelling or spending $200+ more than you need to for the same poor quality of the current AirPod?

its incredible that they are charging £249 for them here in the uk!!

If I don’t like them, I’ll return them. I’m sure I’ll keep them, these will address my main issue with AirPods, lack of noise isolation/cancellation.

95% of their usage will be for podcasts and calls, for which any AirPods are better than adequate in sound quality terms. Rarely listen to music outside of gym (where I don’t use AirPods) and at home via a quality sound system.

Price is price, if you don’t like it, don’t buy them. Moaning about the price of Apple gear is as redundant as moaning about the Pro naming, it’s been done a million times and is so very very boring.

Which Sony's were 'crap'? The in-ear model? I tried them at IFA; but I own the over ear (XM3) and its been fine (and AirPods for daily use such as the gym). I wonder if these will start a trend to abandon the enormous 'cans' (over-ear) that work well but are inconvenient and not so comfy on a 10 hour flight...
These

NC was pretty poor compare to in ear BOSE, and even audio sound wasn't as good as larger CANS,, I GET that but it was noticable. The other thing was the UI/touch experience was very unpredictable to do even the SIMPLEST of tasks. I really want a wireless NC version of headphones to use on flights. Well see Thursday if the Apple ones are up to the task.

"Pro" AirPods? Good lord guys. I'm not normally one to gripe about the whole what is or is not a Pro, but...

With the iPhone "Pro" and now AirPods "Pro" it's just bordering on silly. On one hand you have pro stuff that's legitimately pro—like a real Mac Pro. But these? And while the iMac Pro is certainly in the realm of legit pro stuff, putting together the "i" line with the "Pro" line is starting to stink of Microsoft-style labeling.

Still have my original AirPods. I like them a lot but like most people, I've watched the battery life fall off a cliff since I picked them up a couple years back. Until they can crack that walnut, I won't be repeating.

The naming is odd, AirPod Plus would have been good enough AFAIK.

This has been an expensive week for me. Friday I bought new iPhone 11 Pros for my wife and I. And now these today. I love my v1 airpods and since I've had them I've said if they release ones that are in-ear with noise cancelling I would buy without hesitation. I was not wrong. Can't wait until Thu... Going to have be more frugal in November though.

Personally, I'd wait on any/all of the following:

1. A deal down the line, likely from any manner of the third parties that will sell them (BB, Costco, Online places)

2. Some actual reviews

3. The Apple (and other) holiday extended return windows to start so you can give them a true 6+ week test and ensure something this expensive is worth it for your usage, your ears, etc.

Haha. But don't worry, Apple cares about the environment.

The "business" environment that is..

Or even AirPods NC

Honestly that's a feature that is no doubt expensive and being forced on many users who perhaps just need the different fit and tip options that are offered here.

I love the people posting “if they actually stay in my ears, I’ll pay the extra $100”. Wow, you people amaze me.
I‘m always amused by people who are so judgmental as if it’s any of their business how other people spend their money.
Was ready to finally buy $150 overpriced airpods now that they have rubber tips and can seal.

$250? No.
Just because you think something is too expensive doesn’t mean it’s overpriced it just means it’s too expensive for you.

That's exactly me in a nutshell... I couldn't compare the in-ear Sony's at the trade show (IFA in Berlin last month); and actually lamented buying the XM3 over-ears. Now that I hear your comparison, I don't mind that I kept the large Sony's. AND since I did want NC for flights; I did order the new AirPod Pro today. Will try out flying to Vegas (to give a stock market speech; and I'll mention this product which I suspect will be good).. next week.

So rather than demand Apple makes their disposable £149 ear buds fit properly, people are willing to throw £249 at them instead?

Tim certainly knows how the prick the one brain cell all Apple users are plugged into.

My AirPods have always fit perfectly and don’t fall out. Much better than the wired version. maybe they don’t work for some people, but half the people in my gym have AirPods, love them and they don’t fall out

PRO is simply an Apple marketing term to refer to a product that has added features and abilities to another similar product they sell. Airpods + Extra Features (while still selling the AirPods at lower prices) = AirPods PRO. Now that iPhone, iPad, AirPod do this it is starting to be a cohesive strategy that consumers will be able to understand... you can buy the "good" one, or buy the "all the bells and whistles one" (Pro) for all their favorite products.

Pro was first used on the Macbooks to distinguish between the polycarbonate MacBooks and the aluminium models which were MacBooks Pros in the mid 2000’s when the naming of the notebooks switched from iBooks and PowerBooks to reflect the switch from Power PC CPUs to Intel.

So the term used to actually mean professional back in the day. There was a clear distinction between the MacBooks and the Pro models. Pro models had much more powerful hardware for professionals.

The way Apple is just applying it to everything now is stupid. If they are trying to bring some cohesion to the product line they could have come up with something a lot better. There’s no such thing as a pro phone or pro earphones. iPad you can maybe understand because it’s leaning more toward being a laptop replacement and the Pro distinction makes more sense.

They fit fine for most people, stop being so condensending. If you don't like them, don't buy them. Those of us who did buy them are spending our own money how we see fit.

If you knew anything about headphones you'd realize active noise cancelling ear buds usually go for $300 - $350, these are a bargain.

I am glad these are finally out so I can buy the non pro models and feel less ripped off. I was expecting the pros to be around $50 more but today i was reminded the company is apple.

Had no interest in them at first, being noise canceling - I like to be able to hear around me and hate sealing the world out.

Then I saw these can run in both noise canceling and non-noise canceling mode, and I'm intrigued.

People complaining about price will end up being blown away like ALWAYS. Whine whine whine then OMG THIS IS AMAZING TOTALLY WORTH IT!

All that said, I'm a stubborn gen 1 holdout until there is a volume control touch slider on the Airpods themselves.
