Hope for a little more bass (quality bass, rather), and more extended treble "sparkle" in the next iteration.

Just don't tune it like the Airpods Max with their lack of upper mids. I don't know what Apple was thinking there.

I’m hoping they release them in a black option this time around. They have a full color palette for the Max, why not for the Pros?

I also feel as though the audio quality got slightly worse over time. My transparency mode sounds a little muffled now and not as clear as it used to. I cleaned them thoroughly, but it still sounds like that.

Also would be nice if they made the charging pins in the case a little more reliable. I used to clean my case every day or other day, but there would still be times my AirPods would be in the case and one would not charge. Incredibly annoying putting them on and then hearing the battery indicator from one side. I try to push them all the way or check my phone, but sometimes I don’t have the time so it still happens too often.

If they give Air Pods 2 a USB-C charging case while keeping all the design same, I wish they allow me to buy just the outer charging case so that I can use my existing buds in new USB-C case. But Apple who love generating e-waste would not want to do this.
They did do that for the original AirPods with the wireless charging case, but it seems unlikely that the cases between the Pro generations will be the same since they are rumored to have a different design, specifically going stemless.

This is one of my major gripes using AirPods Pro: I don't know which device it decides to connect to, and when my audio will cut out. I can sit in a room where iPhone and iPad are near me, and yet somehow AirPods decides I don't want to listen to video on iPad anymore and jump to iPhone despite me using iPad to listen to video.
It’s so bad I had to turn it off on all of my devices except for my phone. I’d be watching YouTube on my phone and they would just randomly switch to my iPad which most of the time was sleeping or my computer. When it worked, it was awesome, but it rarely ever works correctly.

I've had them since launch, and I've only had to have both L and R replaced three or four times for quality issues!

A home run!

I got a great idea, make $250 earbuds actually work for over a few weeks before you need to replace them, make the ANC better, etc, etc. When I first got them they were totally fine for quite a while actually, nearly a year. Then a few months ago they started doing all that crackling crap, and even with ANC off, they would be terrible. I recently got them replaced by Apple, no problems there, great and quick service. Just like a week ago, I start hearing a "seashell ocean" noise in the right one when I have them in ANC and louder noises make it crack a bit. This drives me ***** nuts.

This is like the worst product from Apple quality-wise that wasn't necessarily included in a box with something else that I have ever used. For now I just keep the ANC off, probably will be replacing them again here shortly, or may just wait until the new ones come out and demand those.

ANC was perfect at launch. Then with every subsequent firmware update Apple made them less and less effective. I don't get what they were trying to do.

They still sound atrocious compared to proper earphones though - even compared to budget Shure SE215's which wipe the floor with AirPods. Perhaps Apple will actually make some effort with the audio quality with the next gen Pro's as they are a complete joke.
Seems unfair to compare the sound of bluetooth earbuds like the Airpods Pro to wired earbuds like the Shure SE215's

Got them at launch and still miss the original ANC. I know there are many people out there who believe this is some kind of group hallucination as well as people who just don’t care since they bought earbuds later. But the way they blocked the noise initially is just incomparable. Maybe v 2.0…

AirPods Pro are an essential product for me and I can't imagine a day without them. Apple Can introduce whatever generation/upgrade and I am in..
own 3 each got rattle; apple replaced 2 of them and both got rattle after 3 months; never buying airpods pro again

For the price difference, it didn’t seem like an obvious choice to spend the extra money for what are essentially disposable earbuds.
This is the exact issue I have. I'd probably buy them if they could design the battery to be replaceable, but while they remain a disposable item I just can't justify it. Plus they sound horrendous to the person on the other end of the line when used for phone calls.

It isn't unfair at all. They are both used for the purpose of listening to music, and the AirPods Pro are vastly more expensive, and are disposable.

Never had any issues with headphone fit going all the way back to the firewire iPod. The AirPod Pros have always been a struggle for me. Tried all of the sizes, bought foam tips as well but the silicone is just too slippery. If I use a wipe and clean my ears and silicone, that'll buy me a couple weeks but they'll never last more than 20-30 minutes without slipping out. Noise cancellation is fantastic.

That said, I pulled out my original wired, in ear silicon headphones from what, two decades ago? I can't shake them loose from my ears. Just look at the design differences, one is thin and narrow to fit all the way in to the ear cavity, the other, albeit wireless, is this massive bulbous design that I imagine needs to sit on the ear to not fall out.

998 days of ownership, still very happy and don’t really have any issues with them.

The buds were however replaced under the replacement program at 2 years of age. They did have a small defect, some ticking sound when on the move.

Did get me free fresh batteries though, looking at two more years of use I’m hoping.
If you use AirPods almost daily, $29 AppleCare+ is a must. Upon daily use, the battery would almost assuredly fall below the 80% mark before the 2-year anniversary. My quibble is that it is not possible for the customers to figure out the battery health. The worst case, you can "oopsy" the nearly 2-year old AirPods and pay $29 to replace them.

It's like saying it's not unfair to compare how much quicker my wife's electrically powered vehicle (Tesla) is than my gas powered vehicle (Audi) by saying they should be comporable because they are both used for driving.

Audio products like custom earphones are not like computers, they don't get antiquated so quickly, and they are still useful until technology surpasses it.
Indeed, though they really do have us by the collar due to potential battery life improvements and codec improvements (like lossless music over bluetooth). So there are reasons to look forward to the next gen devices, or say, a couple reasons to be morose about a previous gen purchase at the last minute.

I tried a short shoot-out between the AirPods and AirPods Pro. I didn’t have time to really experience how the noise cancelling and transparency modes operated but it was reasonable. One of the things that shocked me the most was the difference in sound quality between the standard and pro versions. I found it to be negligible, with the AirPods Pro benefiting from a more robust lower end.

For the price difference, it didn’t seem like an obvious choice to spend the extra money for what are essentially disposable earbuds. Understandable given that the designs are so similar but they would have to improve the features around the main function of audio playback to make the next generation interesting enough for me to buy a pair.
The value of the pros is the noice cancellation.
