AirPods Pro Now 1,000 Days Old: What to Expect From Next Model

Please fix the atrocious call quality. Others constantly complain about background noise when I use them, and I immediately know when the person I’m talking to is using them since I can hear everything in their environment except their voice.
I would love it if they would apply ANC to the microphones. That would fix the noice issue you mention. I have a pair of Jabra over-the-ear-phones with noice canceling microphones and it is amazing how much noise they can block. The Airpods are about average for non-ANC-microphone earphones. They should be better.

ANC was perfect at launch. Then with every subsequent firmware update Apple made them less and less effective. I don't get what they were trying to do.

They still sound atrocious compared to proper earphones though - even compared to budget Shure SE215's which wipe the floor with AirPods. Perhaps Apple will actually make some effort with the audio quality with the next gen Pro's as they are a complete joke.
When they launched and the ANC was strong, there were a lot of people complaining of a feeling of “pressure” when it was on. After they did the first update those complaints dropped but the ANC was never as good. I think that they sacrificed some ANC to eliminate the pressure complaints. I hope that they have a better solution in this next gen.

The ANC is great. What do you believe is the issue with it? As far as a larger case, the inky reason for a larger case is a larger battery.
The current noise cancellation is not a strong as it was when they were first released. The first software update adjusted the level and let in more noise. It would be nice to be able to go back to the stronger ANC.

The microphones have never had ANC on them. There is a lot of noise transmitted through them. It would be better if Apple would apply ANC to the microphones, too. On headphones that have that, you can be in a relatively noisy environment and people on the other end of a call can hear you clearly without the noise.

The current case fits so lightly around the earpieces that any third party earpieces cannot be a different shape than the Apple ones. If they were to open that space up just a little to make some room, others could make new ear tips that might fit more ears. A lot of people cannot get the APPs to stay in their ears as the default tips don’t quite fit them.

I’ll only be interested if the sound quality is significantly upgraded. I really want to like AirPods Pro, having to disconnect and reconnect to switch devices is infuriating with other earphones. However when earphones at half the price beat them out at sound by a mile, it’s hard to justify them.
What quality are you looking for in the sound profile of earphones? Are you looking for enhanced base or for clearer voice rendition? I’m sure if you are mostly a popular music listener then earphones with more bass would be beneficial. I rarely use mine for music and mostly use them for zoom and podcasts, so clear midrange and highs are more important and more bass would just muddy things. for my use the sound quality of the APP is near perfect.

It might help if Apple would give us settings to boost bass, midrange, or treble. Or if they at least gave us some predefined profiles to switch between.

I've had them since launch, and I've only had to have both L and R replaced three or four times for quality issues!

A home run!
Yes, there was obviously some bad component in all of them. At least for a while. I would be curious to find out what actually went wrong. I haven’t had any problems since mine were replaced in 2020 for the krackle of death. I’m sure that they will be making sure that the new ones don’t have that same problem

um, what about the number 1 issue? battery life...

Other issues I've had:

Connectivity issues
Charging issues
Degrading ear tips
Terrible sound quality when used for communication (unbearable over Windows)
No mute option
No volume control
Noise cancelling could improve
Transparency could improve
On the design side, I wouldn't mind some color options but it's not gonna happen
Totally agree with many of these issues. It is very annoying to find that people cannot hear me so reliably when trying to use Airpods “PRO” for phone calls. And relates to the noise cancelling which appears to not exist in any meaningful way on phone calls.

That being said, I have yet to find any other brand or type that are a better combo of convenience, lightness, some* noise canceling with music only, semi-comfortable, etc.

Absolutely. It’s very frustrating! Glad to read that I am not the only one with this experience but I wish they can address this very soon. Truly

The APP have noise control on the speakers but not on the microphones. It would be helpful if they were to add it to the microphones so that they could reject noise on phone/zoom calls. When you use headphones with noise controlled microphones it is amazing how much they can block.

Yup, I got the pro's for my iphone and the beats solo for my mac mini. Not for sound quality but the tight integration within Apple's ecosystem.

As for the ANC. it's rubbish. I can still hear the wife trying to talk to me 🤣

Will they fix the design flaw that ear wax clogs up the noise cancelling microphone and makes it useless after a few months of use?

What about foam tips as the silicon ones don't stay in your ears?

AirPods Pro are one of Apple's best but most frustrating products.

I used blue tac with ok results and also some sucking like a polo 🤣

I just bought these as I thought anc would block out noise at work.. it does absolutely nothing.. no blocking out work noise, traffic noise or anything… these have to be my worst apple purchase in a long while.. if they want to add some features how about getting the things they advertise to work first…

I agree with the last 4 points although I've had no issues with the first 4. Also another issue I've found with transparency mode is that it seems if there is a loud noise near me, it disables transparency mode and maybe even turns on noise cancelling for a few seconds. I guess this is to protect my hearing? But I wish I could turn it off it can get very annoying. Sometimes when I sneeze it happens but might only happen on one airpod, very irritating.

It's like saying it's not unfair to compare how much quicker my wife's electrically powered vehicle (Tesla) is than my gas powered vehicle (Audi) by saying they should be comporable because they are both used for driving.
I can't tell if you're agreeing or disagreeing with me. It's fair to compare speed of cars, regardless of the engine they have. Why not?

My wife left 3 weeks ago. I would LONG to hear her talking.....

3 different AirPods Pro. All 3 developed the blown-speaker sound. All 3 replaced. All 3 replacements developing the blown speaker sound again.

I just want a pair that can last.

I wish Apple would notify if ear buds are not charging properly ie uneven charging. Blinking indicator or a message to your phone. This is a significant flaw due to the fact of how finicky the charging of ear buds

I've had mine for a little over two years. I'm not having a lot of the problems other than the ANC not being as strong as it once was. Also I had to get one replaced with rattlegate.

Maybe the “H2” chip will bring noise cancellation up to the level of Sony’s flagship buds. An hour more of battery life would be welcome.

You maybe right, I bought the APP late in the game. However, I am satisfied with the performance. I use the APP on the rails and it did a really good job of filtering out the noise from the conversation, clickety-clack and loudspeaker announcements. People who I call with the APP tell me the quality is good, so whether noise is transmitted or not, I cannot complain.

Then you have faulty ones. I had a similar experience with my first set. Almost no bass, barely effective ANC. They were replaced under warranty and it was a difference like day and night!

I just hope that they will be better for making phone calls in noisy environments. It is not suitable for making calls while driving since the other side hears a lot of background noise. My Sennheiser BT headset makes the same car and speed sound like I'm a lone in a soundproof room! So, it is easily possible to do

Same. I almost just lived with it but decided to take the time to go to the Apple Store to get them replaced and I am so glad I did.

For the car sound problem, I noticed that for some reason using just one bud works better than with two.
