Unboxings like people are having orgasms...

Is this humans have turned into? about a stupid bluetooth device?

If you want it...buy it...if not dont buy it...Simple....If Apple makes feces people are gonna unbox it and make a big deal if it is good or not. Most just want views, show off, anyway. I'm done about all these news of AirPods...going crazy.

You don't get the AirPods so get over it.

The EarPods sound pretty good to be honest. They are balanced and don't exaggerate anything, which for me is quite favourable. In my opinion, I'd say the EarPods are actually underpriced for how nice they are.

Reviews are saying the AirPods are slightly better, and if that's truly the case, add on the convenience of wireless, the charging solution, and the tight Integration... 120 bucks isn't bad at all, and is still less than the competition which is pretty bad as of right now.

You're right though - anybody paying extra to get them early isn't being terribly smart with their money.

I **** all over the AirPods when they were first coming out but reviews have confirmed that they're actually pretty great.

I was exactly the same. I thought they were a crap idea, and after being underwhelmed by the new macbook pro, I thought what the heck, order them for a laugh and return them, and boy was I surprised , they actually brought a smile to my face, you hardly notice you are wearing them, the case/charger is a great idea and they are perfect for my gym sessions. Have no intention of returning them, sure I have my Shure in ears for listening to music, but for commuting and gym, and phone calls around the house, these rock.

Ive owned/own quite a few BT headsets, and these have the best connection.

Disappointed they don't pair with my Sony ZX2, as in the volume does not work, but hey like it matters, the SQ on these can using the ZX2 is silly to be honest :)

One thing it does not play nice with is my iPod nano.

I bought two pairs of AirPods at the Apple Store. Kept one for myself (love it) and the other one I sold yesterday via Craigslist for $350. So basically someone paid me to own my current pair. Gotta love supply and demand...and crazy people.

Yes you can. Mine are coming on the 12th but my friend ordered his from Verizon and plans on using it like a regular Bluetooth headset for phone calls.

Thanks...

I cycle a lot and being able to use a single pod (I need a free ear) when listening to music/news, along with making/taking a call would be great.

Yes I have, though only a few calls. I just made a call just now, and the person said it was very good, i pointed out that I was testing the new airpots. The phone was in one office room and I went to another room.

I used both airpods for the phone call.

Thanks for the sound quality report.

EDIT...

Also... thanks for your feedback in Post# 53. Knowing you're picky you've convinced me to give them a try.

If you have to touch the headphones to turn down the volume (such as the current EarPods), whats the difference between that and clicking the volume buttons on your iPhone in your pocket? Or if you iPhone is in a tight pocket/backpack, the Apple Watch? My point is, both scenarios require a free hand and physical movement.

But I think I see what you're saying, it definitely was convenient. But I think it is just as easy to reach into your pocket and click the volume button (or use the AW crown) to adjust volume, and this tiny inconvenience is outweighed by the massive benefit of losing the wires IMO. This, plus having an Apple Watch, was why the no physical volume control on the AirPods was not a deal breaker for me. Just my 2 cents.

On Apple's main AirPod page, they make a point to mention that you can answer calls and adjust the volume without taking your phone out of your pocket, that is why I am asking. No one has clarified this yet, other than educated guesses.

I know you can just adjust the volume from the phone's volume buttons, and I can start naming off a bunch of scenarios where this would not be very convenient. Such as messy hands, phone in a backpack, or while driving just to name a few.

I also know you can adjust the volume with an AW, but this requires an AW.

I'm surprised MR hasn't picked up on the 9to5 Mac story about the odd Lightning/USB-C port connection.

It looks like an Apple design that missed the quality control phase.
Can you post a link?

Curious...

Have you tried a phone call with them yet? If so, how is the reported sound quality at the other end of the call?

Also, I assume you can use a single AirPod when taking a phone call. Is that true?

When calling from a quiet environment (my office) my wife told me I sounded more or less the same as I do when I talk to her using the iPhone's built in microphone. She said my voice was perhaps somewhat more hollow, but not in a way that hindered her ability to understand me. When talking to her with a high-powered fan blowing on its fastest setting from about a foot away pointed either (1) directly at my face, or (2) angled around 45 degrees off from the front of my face, she said that my voice came through clearly, and she could only just barely hear the sound of rushing air in the background.

And yes, you can use a single AirPod talking on the phone. You can also swap between AirPods seamlessly while on the phone.

Thumbs up. You just have to try them. I was sure they would suck, and got a very pleasant surprise.

For me its worth it for the convenience alone. As long as the EarPods fit you well, I think you will like them. As since you store them in the case when not carrying them, the battery issue becomes a none issue, everytime I take them out they are 100%

When you try them, be good to hear your feedback.

Kind of my experience with the Apple Watch. I didn't think it would suck, but after not having a watch on my wrist for at least ten years I thought I'd conclude it was pointless/dumb/stupid/waste-of-money after a couple days and send it back. And here it is a year and a half later, on my wrist 12 hours a day.

EDIT...

My only concern, and this is with both the AirPods and the Watch, is battery longevity. I suspect after three years it will be toast, making both devices essentialy disposable.

I know you can replace an AirPod battery (likely a replacement unit) for $70. Not sure if there's a Watch battery replacement policy.

Also for anyone getting these, to pair them to anything other than an idevice, there is a button on the back of the charging case, you need to press to pair. It really was not obvious and I never noticed it was there at first.

Theres plenty of other garbage out there on youtube and unboxing videos piss you off? You must be a blast at parties.

I never understood unboxing videos. They don't piss me off or anything, I just don't find the appeal.

Although, I guess there are plenty of people that like them.

Had my AirPods for 24 hours so far.

So far so good, loving them. There is no exaggeration when it comes to how they connect. It's instant, effortless, and is pretty magical compared to reg bluetooth. On my Apple Watch, iPhone, and MacBook, I have yet to find the slightest hiccup.

As far as sound quality I have 0 complaints. They sound great even in noisy environments and the sound quality using the two mics (I haven't used just 1) is fantastic as well.

Each AirPod has two mics.

In their current incarnation I think I would be in at about $80. Or wait for something more sport oriented. Or perhaps a yurbuds style in ear third party accessory.

Sound quality was meh. Really my experience was that they were exactly like earpods just wireless. Which is fair, because that's what they are. Just not worth the $130 premium.

Impressive water resistance.

Look, no one is going to claim these to be the best sounding headphones on the market, but they sure as hell are an amazing little product for runners and gym goers. Maybe even swimmers with the new Apple Watch 2!

Maybe it does look the most ultimate, but water pressure is the key in waterresistance: when the AirPods were in the washing machine in their case there was no real pressure on them, even if the water got inside, there's no real pressure building up, trying to enter the AirPods trough the little seams and holes. When they are submersed, their is in 360 degrees constant waterpressure. 1 foot isn't a lot, but I guess a raindrop wonnt destroy them.

so dropping them in a puddle or the toilet they will survive. Nobody is saying to scuba dive with them on. I might wear them in my bath tub for example. If they do fall out (which would be unusual) it isn't a big deal. Submerging them for 5 minutes in one foot of water or surviving a washing and drying cycle is a huge deal.
