I never understood unboxing videos. They don't piss me off or anything, I just don't find the appeal.

Although, I guess there are plenty of people that like them.
I use unboxing videos for the following reasons:
1: to repack an new item I need to return
2: to verify what came with the item months later in case I'm not sure and may be missing a part which I need to locate
Sometimes after not using a device for awhile, not sure if it came with a charger and if it did what did the charger look like, etc.

To see the AirPods battery life on Apple Watch they need to be connected to the watch itself and not the phone if not it won't show up.

I have mine connected to my Watch S0 and nope. And the Reddit thread said that wasn't true anyway.

*edit*

Rebooted Watch and battery level shows up. You do NOT need to pair the AirPods to the Watch to show battery level.

This seems like a practical use of an unboxing video, although I question if most people use them for this reason.

People like what they like, and I won't knock anyone for liking unboxing videos. I'm sure people would probably make comments at my YouTube viewing history. Odd things from movie reviews, women driving videos, and camel toe pics.

There, learned something new today. I've never looked at the battery display on my watch, nice to know it shows the AirPods even when they're paired with the phone instead of the watch. I rarely use my phone, actually, I usually listen to music/radio through my iPads. Now that I see how integrated the watch is with the AirPods and phone, I'll be using my phone more.

I don't see this display on the Watch at all. Is there something special you had to do to get this to work?

I can't, probably because you also can't access Siri trough your phone during a call. I have to say it doesn't bother me a lot, it could be personal, but when my phone is in my pocket I can control the volume buttons trough my pants, if I'm not able to do that for wathever reason I use my Apple Watch to control them, it works, but at the end a gesture for the AirPods itself would be welcome.

volume buttons and play/pause would be more welcome

To be fair unboxing videos are pretty damn boring.
And still, there are probably plenty of people watching them that get more excited unboxing electronics than unboxing a woman.

I think my son is one of them.

Maybe it does look the most ultimate, but water pressure is the key in waterresistance: when the AirPods were in the washing machine in their case there was no real pressure on them, even if the water got inside, there's no real pressure building up, trying to enter the AirPods trough the little seams and holes. When they are submersed, their is in 360 degrees constant waterpressure. 1 foot isn't a lot, but I guess a raindrop wonnt destroy them.

My washing machine holds more than 1 foot of water (yes, it is a 'traditional' washer). My thinking was that the 18-24 inches of water, combined with the 'wishy-washy' back and forth movement would be far more hazardous than simply resting below a foot of still water. They didn't make it clear what kind of washing machine - I assumed it was like mine, but maybe it wasn't. They didn't make it clear whether these tests were all done with the pods in the charger or not. Would be curious to know exactly what they did.

The guy said that he put them in, and the turbulent action of the washer resulted in both pods coming out of the case...and still working after he took them out.

I am still trying to grasp a product that 50% of the consumer base can't keep in their ears, or the fact these were released as a for profit product that only certain people can even use due to their ear shape. lol. The ones with the iPhones are free, so that doesn't matter.

Who says 50%? It's amazing the number of people who don't own these who continue to poo-poo them. I can tell you I don't regret spending $159 + tax for these TWICE (one set for the wifey). Not even for a second.

You couldn't pry them out of my warm, wax-filled ears.

Not every shoe brand fits every foot. Not every shirt maker cuts for for every body type. Etc. Welcome to wonderful world of wearables.

On Apple's main AirPod page, they make a point to mention that you can answer calls and adjust the volume without taking your phone out of your pocket, that is why I am asking. No one has clarified this yet, other than educated guesses.

I know you can just adjust the volume from the phone's volume buttons, and I can start naming off a bunch of scenarios where this would not be very convenient. Such as messy hands, phone in a backpack, or while driving just to name a few.

I also know you can adjust the volume with an AW, but this requires an AW.

You can't adjust call volume of the AirPods with the Apple Watch. You can, however, adjust volume of music etc.

Agreed. They're really ugly. But their functionality is so awesome.

How in the world they can be "ugly" when they're the same old design, with "invisible cables"?

Judging from my girlftriend's reaction (she's completely delighted) and all the people that literally have stopped me to inquiry about them today, I believe they will become as iconic as the original iPod earbuds.

Damn, these are fundamentally still £30 sounding headphones that I really like but you would be crazy to pay over RRP.

Forgetting the SQ of these, they are very light, fit is a personal issue, have a very good mic and have excellent BT connectivity . The charging case is great to keep the battery charged up and keep them safe.

Okay, they look weird, but in my case not an issue as my hair covers my ears. If I had short hair.....dunno.

These are independently wireless headphones with some very cool features and custom silicon. If you're really vested in sound quality:

1. Earbuds are probably a bad start.
2. Bluetooth wireless isn't going to help either.

As for looking weird... is it really worse than having two huge muffs over your ears or wires hanging out? These look different, sure, but it's not like most headphones are style accessories (and when they try to be, I think they look lame). I use a headset for Bluetooth calls and these look better than any of the call headsets I've seen.

I think, from a technology perspective, these are a better value than a lot of the Beats nonsense, and Bose isn't much better. As soon as you enter the audiophile zone, you've entered the world of $500 speaker cables (that make no technical sense).

Apple's custom silicon is definitely one of the most interesting areas of the company right now, and this W1 chip is no exception.
