Why do we have a Vista add in our Mac Page???

I mean, consume, consume , consume, stop it!!!!!

Isn':apple: :apple: :apple: t this a Mac page?

Just did this update and it trashed OS X. Since I'm kinda new to MAC I had to sit on the phone with apple and the woman talked me through a few things that didn't work.

My MBP would boot and as soon as it hit the desktop a dark shade would scroll down the screen and a black box with white text would pop up. Kernal panic I suppose.

Only thing that fixed it was an archive and re-install. I re did all updates but that air port extreme update is just sitting there. I'm not installing it.

To that dude wondering if he should bring his OS X install discs on the cruise with him all I can say is YES!!!! YES!!! for crying out loud yes.

My MBP went from working to completely screwed in 3.5 seconds. :(

This is great - BitTorrent has been going for 30 minutes now with no timeouts. This means I'll no longer require that extra long phone line going across the hall into the next room for direct old-fashioned modem/CAT-5 connection!

Is it possible that the update had been removed? I can't see it on the list of available updates in the software update menu.

EDIT: I've checked again and now it appears on my download pane. I guess they're deploying it in stages or something.

24" iMac Boot Problems

Since installing this update my 24" iMac only boots with my USB printer disconnected and the OSX install disc in the drive. Otherwise it hangs at the grey screen (before the Apple logo appears).

Is there any way to uninstall these updates?

Update: I realized my iPod was still connected while I was trying to reboot. Disconnecting it seems to have solved the problem.

Still going strong at 15 bars and no drop outs or disconnects, even after resetting and sleeping.

Is it safe to say that it has fixed any wireless issues on the original core duo imac since 10.4.8? Anyone else with just a core duo imac having success with this update?

Big improvement on my 24 inch iMac, huge increase in signal strength.

Bad things...

After the update my C2D Macbook Pro 2.16GHz is acting weird. I am currently at work and connected to our network via ethernet so I can't fully test this.

When the airport card is turned on the airport process uses almost a gig of ram and maxes out the processor. I can turn the airport card off and it still maxes out the processor and ram. I have to kill the process in Activity monitor. I will see how the process runs when I am at home and can connect to my wireless network. Maybe the airport process always takes up that much ram and processor power when it is looking for a network??? Seems high to me.

Anyone else experiencing this?

Ugh. Had to do a rollback...

Hi Everybody-

After the "-001" update, I started having major dropped connection issues at home, but ascribed it to a rather finicky Linksys router (POS, btw). So, I replaced that wireless router with the new Airport Extreme (man, its SEXY). This was on the same day that that "-002" update came out. I had nothing but problems. I use a C2D MBP and was always losing my connection when surfing the net or transferring large files. This would usually be remedied by putting my MBP to sleep, waking it up, and then all would be fine.

The biggest hassle, I admit, is one of my indulgences, the occassional couple of hours of World of Warcraft. Basically, it became unplayable due to the inconsistent internet connection.

I found some instructions on a webpage article http://www.macfixit.com/article.php?story=20070202133651898 to get my system back to the "pre-update" status. While a pain, it resolved my problems.

I will be VERY hesitant to install any future Airport updates, and am definitely happier with my "pre -001, -002" performance.

Just thought I would weigh in!

I'm sure that's a Google thing, not a MR thing. But if Microsoft wants to waste their money trying to sell Vista to this crowd... heh... good. :D

In any event; I don't see any ads at the top of the page. After all, userContent.css is free:

Enjoy!

Why oh why?

So i finally decided to install the update although i was a little nervous. I installed it and was unable to connect to the network, there was an error when trying to connect. Network Diagnosis froze and i had to hard shutdown the laptop. Upon restart it connected. All seems well now but i was just wondering if anyone else ran into this and also advice people to be careful.

Yep. Same problem with imac. Now my airport gets less bars. MOthercracka!

The exact same thing happened to my MBP. I installed the -02 updated, rebooted, and as soon as the "Welcome to Mac OS X" window appeared - kernal panic. Looks like I'll be reinstalling OS X tonight.

Did you happen to have the wireless-n enabler installed? I have a hunch that perhaps that is the problem.

Just since so many people are posting negative experiences... I had the opposite experience.

Before this update, my BlackBook was getting 2-3 bars and every ~20 minutes it would drop its connection and refuse to reconnect until I put the book to sleep for at least half a minute.

After the update, I get 4-5 bars, and have been on ever since.

positive experience here as well. after the update airport has been behaving pretty nicely as it should. drop signal / low reception is almost gone.

the difference was very noticeable when i had to reinstall os x the other day.

Since I installed the 002 update, I have been having connection problem. I used the D-Link Super G router. It would say "there's an error connecting to the network" even though I typed in the right password. It would work after I mess around with the router settings and airport settings, but then it would drop dead again when I restart my MB.

Anyone has similar problems with D-Link routers?

Sounds familiar

Unfortunately, from my experience it is probably not your router. While I did ditch my Linksys for an Airport Extreme, my problems persisted. Going back to pre "-001" helped everything out, and I am normal again.

BTW, my problem sounds exactly like what you are experiencing.

This has made me very hesistant to move to the new 10.4.9 update.

I'm pretty new to Mac.... can you tell me how you can go back to the "001" or pre-001 status? There's no such option under Software Updates in System Preferences......The 001 update has worked fine for me, so I prefer just going back to the 001.

I second that

I would like to know how to go to pre-001 also.. I'm out of town at my grandparents gonna wait till i get home to my airport extreme and see how it does with that. never had problems before should have never downloaded but it is tempting. Im connecting but sometimes i get errors. I'm afraid of 10.4.9 update too. gotta wait till i have my restore disks.

Sadly this has absolutely trashed the wireless on my MB C2D, I cannot get any AirPort connection now at all no matter what I try. I guess I'm going to have to downgrade out of this update somehow. Funny that it works with my iMac CD connecting to the same router using the same settings, but not at all with the MB. Oh well.

<EDIT> After checking out everything, it was time to simply ditch my 3 year old D-Link wireless router. Evidently the wireless cards in the Intel based Macs just don't seem to get along well with older D-Link routers for some reason. Anyways, after picking up a dirt cheap new Belkin 54g router, everything is now working perfectly again.

The update screwed up my MacBook as well. I'm going through internet withdrawls until my boyfriend comes home with his PowerBook at night. lol

We have an older d-link router, so it looks like we need to replace it so my mac will work w/ it.

<edit> NM, newbie and I didn't see a pg.2 before... I'm going to try to go back to pre-001 as well.
