Sadly this has absolutely trashed the wireless on my MB C2D, I cannot get any AirPort connection now at all no matter what I try. I guess I'm going to have to downgrade out of this update somehow. Funny that it works with my iMac CD connecting to the same router using the same settings, but not at all with the MB. Oh well.

<EDIT> After checking out everything, it was time to simply ditch my 3 year old D-Link wireless router. Evidently the wireless cards in the Intel based Macs just don't seem to get along well with older D-Link routers for some reason. Anyways, after picking up a dirt cheap new Belkin 54g router, everything is now working perfectly again.

yes, this update also trashed my wireless on my mb c2d.. isn't there any way to 'uninstall' a software update? i ended up reinstalling os x and making this update inactive

How to "Undo" The Airport Update

When I needed to Undo the Airport -001 and -002 Updates, I found the explanation on this page to be very accurate:

Also, it may seem a bit daunting, and it takes a good hour, but I does remove the updated files and settings. Just be sure to do the system backup, or if you have a newish system, it really doesn't matter...

Hope that helps some people out - it seems to have helped my situation quite a bit - but did not solve it completely. I still get dropouts, but now maybe once an hour instead of once every 4 minutes.

After this update, my Macbook will no longer connect to my WEP network at home...

My G5 iMac connects fine though, and the update was intel-only (From what I can gather), and the guy at Applecare was quick to point out that this could be what's keeping me from connecting on my MB...

Slightly gutted, although I could connect fine with my MB on the other networks I have in my preferred list...

Just so you know... WEP is totally, easily crackable. Once it is cracked, a hacker can not only hijack your connectivity, but also examine your network traffic (ie, to grab passwords or other sensitive data you send over it). Things sent through SSL (ie, https sites) should still have the SSL encryption, but overall when using WEP you are asking to be OWN3D.

For secure wireless traffic, use WPA2 and use a very good password. Since you don't need to enter the password often, make it gnarly. Never, ever just use a regular English word. A hint for making passwords: go to the Accounts preference pane and click the little key next to the password field. That'll help you build a nice, solid password.

I live on a street with a bunch of 80 year olds and just down the road from a uni coursemate. There are precisely two more wifi networks on our street, one of which is open, the other is my coursemate's... I think I'll be ok.

Could you please quote the page on here for those of us who don't have a MacFixIt subscription?

That update is only for Intel based Macs. You might try updating to 10.4.9 if you haven't already as that would insure that you have the latest fixes available for PPC Macs.

gosh... it's been almost 2 weeks. has there not been any airport fix update yet? i'm still stuck with ethernet cable...sigh

Have you tried rebooting? I had random problems with this fix until after two reboots...

I managed to get it fixed by doing an archive-and-install and updating everything except the AirPort updates. Everything works fine now.

when my new macbook came, it had the same problem. problem is solved once i updated to 001. when 002 came, the problem came again.
worst is, i've did a archive and install...but 001 is nowhere to be found! argh
when is 003 coming?

some ideas pls...
been such a long time, and i'm still not able to use airport on my own wireless router...
I've called applecare, and was connected to the 'airport specialist', told to do some updates, hung up, and called and left him a msg over the phone. This was 1week ago, and he has not replied!!
what should i do?
