You raise a good point, I’m curious to see if Apple includes the 3.5 mm Jack or not. We know that 3.5 MM Jack is no longer for the iPhone and iPad, but do they do the same for the iPod? If I had to guess, I would say it would be removed as well, just to follow a line of that tradition that they have been doing with other products already, and it just promotes more Bluetooth usage, which others may not agree with.

Either way, it’s nice to see rumors with products that have been around a long time with Apple, like the iPad mini and iPod touch that are rumored to see refreshes this year.
The thing for me is, being a "Music Player first" the iPod should retain the Jack, not for quality purpose, but as said in another thread i want to be able to use any kind of headphones with it.

I am perfectly fine with my Airpods, but i like my shure as well, and having one "extra" connectivity way for the music is a plus!

The iPod Touch is already relegated to a back shelf in a dank corner of the Apple Stores. Why update it if not adding some new compelling feature that justifies putting back on the floor? That probably means the 3.5mm headphone jack gets dropped. Though, if any mobile device continues to support it, the iPod would be it.

It will be REALLY interesting to see what Apple does with the iPod Touch, because everybody thought it was on its way out.

What they *might* do - take an iPhone 7, remove the cellular radio (aka an iPhone without the phone), and offer it in multiple colors. So, the new iPod Touch gets a faster processor, TouchID, a better camera, a bigger screen, and (in keeping with their other iOS devices) no headphone jack compared to the current version. And, if they REALLY wanted to make the iPod Touch line relevant again, they would also offer it in the iPhone 7 Plus size as well.

I have a hunch that one of the main new features of the new iPod Touch will be wireless charging, to drive sales of the new AirPods and AirPower among young people whose parents won't give them an iPhone yet. I'd love to see an all-screen design and an upgraded camera, too. Wouldn't be too surprised if they dropped the headphone jack to spur wireless sales, but on an iPod, that would be pretty damn stupid.

Tim Cook would be the one to drop it, because he has “courage” to say that 255kbps audio quality exceeds 999kbps lossless coming out of the headphone jack... You dumb people down into a mush by taking away their hearing and then it is much easier to distort their other senses as well

As someone who is from Alabama.... Auburn grads know quite a bit about cows, and forcing heavier and heavier iPhones on people, and degrading the audio quality on all iOS devices and having users accept it just confirms that Auburn grads know how farm animals work... I don’t see individuals as tools to be used up and discarded... I am the one who throws a sledgehammer through your vulnerable ecosystem which is built on a sandy foundation.

That one guy brings up a great point...the new iPod will 100% have wireless charging capability, because why would they release it at an event alongside the AirMat.... With that being said, the new iPod would have to have metal coils in the back to facilitate this, and it will add more weight to it, with nullifies any technological gains that are made with it.

When are the people in Cupertino going to wake up and realize that you can make your products lighter and market it as being lighter and use that to justify a higher price point to consumers?

Is a 2.5 pound tent supposed to cost more than a 1 pound tent? No, it costs half the price. Why? Because weight is nearly everything in Ultralight adventures and Apple is completely abandoning us, by putting more bloatware into their devices and chaining its users down not only software wise but physically as well.

If you create an ultralight device you can sell it for much more if you market it in a way that shows how quality of life improves by lessening friction with all the devices that surround you. No wonder America has such an obesity epidemic. LESS IS MORE PEOPLE!!! LESS IS MORE

I'll wait until the official announcement of the iPod with the price and specs before getting excited.

I hope Tim Cook has the “courage” to drop the 3.5mm jack from the iPod! Sound quality is so 2015 guys... lossy music is the new lossless
The iPod already have Bluetooth for you to use wireless headphones but I want to continue to use the jack. This keep both users happy and with options to choose from.

My 2 year old AirPods no longer last more than an hour per charge. Apple expects me to spend the money equivalent to a brand new pair to get it “fixed”.
If Tim thinks earphones is a subscription-based product that costs consumers $80+ per year, then I’m out.
Mine too but think about how much you’ve used them. If like me you have them on 8-10 hours a day for two years, you’re using it almost twice as much as your phone and the battery that can fit inside those tiny AirPods is minuscule. It’s only physics that after an x number of charges and uses, the battery just can’t hold a charge like a fresh one.

Shure does have a Bluetooth kit for the SE IEMs but you are correct, there is a very steep drop in SQ.

I was being sarcastic...

I am sure Shure (see what i did there? :D ) has some NEW BT monitors, what i ment is use what I already have (without extra purchase).

If you listen to a lot of music, chances are you have more than one pair of HeadPhones / In-ear, so for a music device it would be a must (for me) to suppors as many as possible.

I am fine with BT quality, as in I do not always need the max quality, but it is more for a practical thing, there's always either a stereo with Input jack , or a car with it, and it would be good not to lose compatibility.

Sure the future is all wireless, but i cannot change car, stereo, headphones and other devices all at once, so backward compatibility in this case is needed, I am fine with the phone being bt only.

Just give me some kind of AirPod update and I’m in. I have used mine constantly for the last 2 years. I now have to charge them throughout the day and must switch back and forth while using one on a phone call. The state of the batteries is unfortunate but not a complete disappointment. These have been well used and a few small improvements will make a great product even better.

I love how everyone raved about AirPods and they are all practically unusable now. That is terrible they get under an hour charge 2 years later.

Is this common?

This isn’t true and you’re over speculating. I have launch date AirPods, which I have been using for well over two years, and the battery life easily supersedes over three hours. But I also charge my AirPods regularly, which is also a factor to lithium ion batteries for the overall health.

Sure, but which higher-end (excluding, eg, cheap toys) rechargeable battery powered electronics device do you expect to last only two years?
Which device has a smaller battery?

That's gonna be interesting, no 3.5mm on a brand new ipod touch = no sale. I bet its gonna include one.

I'd rather have corded earbuds that cost a fraction of the price and never need to be charged. That's the product that just works.

Apple isn’t the one speculating.
Better word for you then,
Apple Guestimates when they will finally get around to putting out a refresh of an aging computer line their customers have been asking for for nearly a decade.
When they get around to it that is. They have 100 more new emojis to develop first. Priorities ya know.

Meanwhile, Mac just posted the most revenue ever and nice y/y growth.

Apple's Mac business is doing well. Your assessment is irrelevant to how Apple manages the business. The strategy is working.

Perhaps you'd prefer an alternative AirPod model with stems large enough to accomodate rechargeable AAA batteries?

Personally, I prefer the ultra compact and comfortable current design which would not be possible without a custom fitted tiny battery. And if I'm using them so much that they need to be replaced after only two years, then I would say I am getting my full money's worth out of them. AirPods are Apple's best product since the iPhone.

Nah, don’t agree at all. I’m in the same boat as the person you quoted. I don’t feel like I got my money’s worth. If I just accepted everything Apple does as great I’d maybe agree with you but I don’t.

Who said anything about Apple doing poorly?
I'm pointing out that this computer company neglects their computer buying customers.

Also, just because a company is doing financially well, doesn't mean they are making good products.
Many Chinese companies make utter trash but still turn a profit.

That is not answer to my question. I asked if you know of any other higher end electronic device that only lasts two years.
To me, that's not the question. The question is which device that has a li-ion battery is impervious to the effects of battery wear and gives the exact same battery life as new.

- iphone max
- tesla
- samsung galaxy
- air pods

The answer is none of them. Even Tesla batteries will degrade and give less miles per charge and even Tesla advises against constant topping off of the battery as it facilitates wear. There is no getting around it except by not buying b/t headsets. Even the manual for my qcii says the battery will wear on use, but at least there is a "headphone" jack.

These b/t will all suffer the same fate eventually.
