Another reference to AirPower was discovered on Monday, this time in relation to Apple's new AirPods range. The photo below was sent to MacRumors and shows Apple's long-delayed wireless charging mat on the back of the box for the new Wireless Charging Case for AirPods, which Apple announced last week. The image has since been verified by other Twitter users who have received their charging case orders early.

The Wireless Charging Case packaging clearly shows the distinct pill-shaped outline of the AirPower charging mat externally powered by what appears to be a USB-C or Lightning cable, indicating that the yet-to-be-released device can be used to charge AirPods using the wireless-compatible charging case.

Apple launched its new second-generation AirPods on Wednesday, and customers who ordered them on the same day are expecting deliveries between March 26-27. The new AirPods are available with a wired charging case for $159 or with a Wireless Charging Case for $199. Apple is also selling the Wireless Charging Case separately for $79, so that existing owners of first-generation AirPods can charge their earbuds wirelessly using Qi-compatible charging mats. The new AirPods will be available at Apple Stores and select resellers later this week.

Last week, MacRumors uncovered what appears to be a new Apple product image of the AirPower with an iPhone XS and the new AirPods with Wireless Charging Case on it. MacRumors has also uncovered evidence to suggest that Apple has secured the rights to the AirPower trademark in the United States.

Meanwhile, The Wall Street Journal reported that Apple approved production of the AirPower earlier this year, and reputable analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has said the AirPower will be released within the first half of 2019. According to Taiwanese publication DigiTimes, Apple plans to release its long-awaited wireless charging mat AirPower in "late March."

AirPower is designed to charge multiple Apple devices at once, including the iPhone 8 and newer, Apple Watch Series 3 and newer, and AirPods when they are placed in the new optional wireless charging case.

At this point I feel Apple is just trolling us and AirPower is dead.

I think it's referring to this product, available in any decent North American Chinese mall for a year or so now.

I don’t even care about Airpower all that much, I just want Apple to follow through on their promises. This was announced a year and a half ago, and promised by the end of 2018.

Re-read the article, they’re talking about the packaging for the AirPods charging case

I'm sure that when AirPower finally arrives some people will cry themselves to sleep in disappointment.

We've waited for AirPower for almost 3 years. Now it's almost here.

You go to the Apple Store feeling more anxious than that time Mom said Santa would bring you that N64 for Christmas.

You give Apple $160 and rush home.

You post your unboxing on YouTube.

And then you place your phone on that goddamn mat. And your phone charges. And that's it.

The phone charges. Like it has since the beginning of time when connected to a charger. Because it's a ****ing charger that ****ing thing you just bought. What will we do with our lives when that finally happens????

Did they cut it to two products charging? Before it was an Apple Watch, AirPods and the iPhone

Haha Amazing! At this point they have to release it tomorrow, otherwise it will be really confusing for people who are buying these AirPods and won’t understand what the hell this is supposed to be.

Can someone tell why is it written "2018 Apple Inc." and not 2019?

I started to question the same thing. If it won't be able to charge Apple Watch, then it will be another ****ing disappointment.

It's going to be the most innovative, awesome-est, coolest gadget they've put out in years. Because it's taking years to get to market! I can't wait. Will again turn the industry on it's ear.

I don't know, it's been so long my main goal has been to be able to charge my phone AND my Apple watch on the same device I lost track of time.

I get this sentiment. It's a cool product, no doubt, but it's surely not a headline product yet it's received as much press as one. It's an accessory, just like their chargers, docks, watch stands, etc. And apple has been giving it the press that it deserves: none, even when it is delayed.

Am I still excited, and going to buy one? Yes. But am I expecting it to do something especially different? Nope. I'm going to give my wife my white Mophie charger, toss my watch stand in my travel bag (or on the marketplace), and move on with my life. I'll just have a tiny bit more joy when unloading my gear at the end of the day, that they're all charging together, with battery % easily displayed on the phone.

I'm sure there are people who are hyped up who are going to feel let down, and that's going to distort the perception of this device, but those people are still the type who get excited about a charger in the first place.
