Once you report the tag as lost it is locked to the Apple ID it belongs to. There’s no way to disable it like you would if it was secretly planted on you.Been covered in many other threads. But basically because of the "security features" it can't be used well as a tracking device. There are many valid use cases for a device like that. Hopefully over time Apple will adapt a bit to provide some sort of happy medium to improve its usefulness.
Hi. Could you post the thread? I'm curious about this.Been covered in many other threads. But basically because of the "security features" it can't be used well as a tracking device. There are many valid use cases for a device like that. Hopefully over time Apple will adapt a bit to provide some sort of happy medium to improve its usefulness.
Indeed. Like in the post by Leadingheat ?Add another error: it says too early come back at 5....when I click on my email order # confirmation 😄
It would be quite strange if Apple wouldn't know how to create an aluminium casing with a very small protruding part with a hole! I mean their laptop casings have more complex designs. 😅 I guess you can call the leather bands an ecosystem, to me it sounds more like a highly aggressive profit strategy.1. There isn't room for a hole.
2. Apple wants to encourage development of a third-party Airtag ecosystem.
I agree that they ought to have a hole. Maybe in the next version, or when (if) they roll out other AirTags, like the different Tiles. It would be quite strange if Apple wouldn't know how to create an aluminium casing with a very small protruding part with a hole! I think that the ability to attach the product to bags etc. without add-on items is at least as big difference between Tile and Airtags than the U1 chip.
Thank you to all the May beta testers. I look forward to hearing about its positives and negatives before buying one myself.
Apple's new AirTag item tracker became available to pre-order today at 5 a.m. Pacific Time, and shipping estimates are already beginning to slip from Friday, April 30 launch day delivery into the first week of May or later.

In the United States, for example, a single AirTag is now estimated for delivery on May 3-5, but the four-pack option is still available for delivery on April 30 as of writing. AirTag accessories are also estimated for delivery in May, while the AirTag Hermès keychain and luggage tag are estimated for delivery in June.
Engraving an AirTag with letters or emoji also results in extended shipping estimates, so take that into consideration when ordering.
Priced at $29 each or $99 for a four pack, users can attach an AirTag to things like a wallet, keys, purse, or backpack and then keep track of the item's location in the Find My app on iPhone, iPad, and Mac. AirTags are similar to Tile trackers, but they have a U1 chip for Ultra Wideband that enables improved location accuracy when tracking items with iPhone 11 or iPhone 12 models. (Tile is reportedly working on its own Ultra Wideband tracker.)
Pre-orders also began today for the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 mini in a new purple color. Many configurations remain available for April 30 delivery.

its coming as a new feature next year lolWhyyyy is there no hole for a key ring ????
You do realise that any stalker could just put the tracker they placed in somebody else's stuff as stolen and could thus track those people without them being notified? But you'd prefer a product that can be used for stalking because you care more about being able to track stolen items than others being able to stalk people easily?I wish Apple could implement something like a "Stolen Mode" but after reading yesterday's interview where they suggest buying an Apple Watch as a solution I don't have any hope now.
That’s why Apple has built a number of powerful anti-stalking protections into the AirTag platform. If you’re an iPhone owner running iOS 14.5 or later and someone slips an AirTag into your possession in secret in order to track your movements, your iPhone will warn you this has happened by sending you an “AirTag Found Moving With You” notification. This notification will appear only when an AirTag is following you that is not paired with your Apple ID or another iPhone that is in your vicinity. That distinction is critical so that your iPhone won’t be notified of AirTags that, for instance, belong to other people on the same bus you’re riding. The notification will appear courtesy of the Find My app when the user arrives home–as defined by the address in their contacts “Me” card or if using significant locations. Tapping the notification will take you to the Find My app, where you can tell the AirTag that has been slipped into your possession to emit a sound so you can locate it.You do realise that any stalker could just put the tracker they placed in somebody else's stuff as stolen and could thus track those people without them being notified? Speaking of play, it should work well as a house poker chip if you are so inclined.I ordered one to play with, coming next friday.
The problem is when your item is stolen. If the tag is away from the paired phone for X amount of minutes/hours, but finds itself near another, singular, iPhone for X amount of time then it beeps loudly. Thief says "WTF is that sound?", finds the tag and tosses it away. For God's sakes. Just hide it on the device you want to track. It is not complicated
Such a courageous postAnother step further to make humanity more dumb. Seriously, aren’t you able to remember where you left important things???
Yep, that's what I got. Single AirTag with poop icon on it. I wonder which emoji will be the most popular. Unicorn? Poop? Smiley face? Hmm.Shipping date is slipping rapidly.
