That’s why Apple has built a number of powerful anti-stalking protections into the AirTag platform. If you’re an iPhone owner running iOS 14.5 or later and someone slips an AirTag into your possession in secret in order to track your movements, your iPhone will warn you this has happened by sending you an “AirTag Found Moving With You” notification. This notification will appear only when an AirTag is following you that is not paired with your Apple ID or another iPhone that is in your vicinity. That distinction is critical so that your iPhone won’t be notified of AirTags that, for instance, belong to other people on the same bus you’re riding. The notification will appear courtesy of the Find My app when the user arrives home–as defined by the address in their contacts “Me” card or if using significant locations. Tapping the notification will take you to the Find My app, where you can tell the AirTag that has been slipped into your possession to emit a sound so you can locate it.

But what about people who don’t own an iPhone? How would Android owners—or those without a smartphone at all—know if an AirTag was slipped into their possession by a stalker?

Apple thought of that too. After an AirTag has been away from its paired device for a certain amount of time, the AirTag will automatically emit a sound notifying those around it of its presence. Right now, the AirTag needs to be out of range of its paired device for three days for the sound to emit, but Apple could lengthen or shorten this time via a software update in the future.
I know all this. My point was that GeoStructural seemed to want Apple to remove those anti-stalking measures because they also make anti-theft usage more difficult but wasn't willing to admit that trade-off openly.

I had one of these in my cart + the Belkin keyring case, but I have never lost my keys. So it would effectively be a very expensive keyring. I think I'll pass. And I would never put one of these on a dog collar in the off chance they ingest it.
If the tag is attached behind the neck on the collar, it will be impossible for the pet to ingest the tag while wearing the collar.

I ordered a 4-pack around 8AM MDT with engraving and got a delivery date of May 17th. :( Oh well. I really do think the engraving is required for this product. If you have a pile of 4 in your hand how else are you going to tell them apart?
I bought the 4 pack. Had my initials engraved on each one followed by a 1,2,3,4.

It would be quite strange if Apple wouldn't know how to create an aluminium casing with a very small protruding part with a hole! I mean their laptop casings have more complex designs. I guess you can call the leather bands an ecosystem, to me it sounds more like a highly aggressive profit strategy.

I think that the ability to attach the product to bags etc. without add-on items is at least as big difference between Tile and Airtags than the U1 chip.

Feels also like a marketing strategy. Apple wants these airtags to be seen dangling from bags in colourful straps like some sort of fashion statement (sorta like how AirPods have a very distinctive design and everyone knows when you are wearing them). They are not meant to be tossed into your handbag and then forgotten about thereafter. In a way, it’s also reminiscent of the Apple Watch band system. You have the core product, and numerous ways of customising its appearance to suit your preferences.

1. There isn't room for a hole.
2. Apple wants to encourage development of a third-party Airtag ecosystem

ROFLMA.

They didn't pull a hole so they could sell idiots $30+ accessories that cost more than the tags in some cases. Adding a hole would have been easy in countless ways.

I just can't with you people that make these comments. Hey, go Apple in a capitalist society. I'd gouge prices too if people were continually dumb enough to keep paying them. $12 for third party is excessive imo for key chain tags that should be more like $3-$4, but again, capitalism. That looks like a value compared to Apple even though it is price gouging people because you really can't use the damn thing in most cases without buying an extra accessory unless it's going in a bag or something.

I have no doubt there will be tons of keychains on Amazon for under $5 next month.

I only bought 2 and mine are showing April 30. I just wanted to try a few of them and possibly will get more for my family after a little time trying them out.

My arrival dat is already in June. Apple is gonna sell a ton of these things.

I ordered 4 with the full expectation that I will want at least four more.

Car keys, car keys, car, car ... oh, backpack, suitcase, house keys, maybe a second suitcase ...

Anyone’s order shipped yet? I doubt these are coming directly from China as I am scheduled for delivery on Friday and they are yet to be dispatched. Ordered 4 pack with engravings.

You had shipping confirmation from Apple or just via UPS? I am in the UK and don’t have the UPS app. Maybe I will get something once they hit the UK. Ordered moments after they went live.

UPS My Choice. Apple still says preparing for shipping like they always do until it goes through customs.

I keep checking UPS My Choice and I still don’t have a tracking number. Apple still says “Preparing to Ship” and that it will arrive on Friday. I ordered mine in-engraved - maybe that’s why?
