What I'm waiting for is less expensive third-party holders for the AirTags. I did get one Belkin holder but the other ones are just way too expensive.

I like the leather key ring though. not that bad for apple quality leather. got a product red leather for the girlfriend. she better love me more.

AirTags don't seem to do what I've wanted them to do ever since they were rumored -- that being if I put one in my backpack, and I walk away (or drive away) from my backpack (say, I leave it behind at a client) that my iPhone would alert me that I left my backpack behind BEFORE I drive 30 miles back home and discover I forgot my backpack.

Am I correct that AirTag only helps me find something lost and not remind me I'm about to leave something behind?
I'm hoping for the same. Will they be visible to Shortcuts? That could work.

To be honest I am not sure what's the point of releasing a new color for a phone that either most people already have or are going to wait out as the 12s will be out in jus a few months.
There’s a purple iPhone 11, maybe it was still selling lots so they decided to bring the color forward to the 12?

The white iPhone 4 was introduced halfway through the 4’s lifecycle, although there were 2 factors at play there; becoming available on Verizon for the first time, and it took forever for the white coloring to be even across the phone.

Yeah I also tried ordering a 4 pack personalized right at 8:01am EST and it had a 4/30 delivery date but my Apple Pay details weren't as up to date as I thought, so I had to do it manually. By the time I did (very quickly before 8:05am), the shipping time already slipped to early-May so I went with a non-personalized version. Would have been nice to have my initials on it, but not necessary. Reason I want these by 4/30 is I'm actually traveling on 5/1 and would love to put them in action for then.

I just bought my wife an iPhone 12 last week. She wouldn't care if an iPhone 13 was coming out next week or if I got her an iPhone 11 or even an Xr. She just needed a new phone as her iPhone 8 had issues. Many people just don't care if or when a new model is coming out if they need a new phone now and don't want to settle for something used to get by for a few months till the new one is available.

Sometimes on launch day if you add an engraving it will actually give you an earlier delivery date. I think they keep a certain stock at a facility where they do engraving, and it’s possible that stock has not run out yet.
I engraved all 4. Maybe the 4 packs are later?

I understand, as I bought an iPhone 12 just a couple of weeks ago as my X died completely. In your scenario, you would've gotten a 12 no matter what, purple or no purple. The existence of the color purple doesn't increase sales in your scenario. What's the point of making an announcement, create a modified production line, etc?

Stupid question, but the Tags still work on non-U1 devices? I can't seem to find that mentioned anywhere. Assuming it would work via BlueTooth?

Also disappointed I can't get the five-letter name of my dog to fit on one!

Yes, it's just the U1-equipped devices can provide an on-screen arrow that guides you to the AirTag. Non U1-equipped devices don't have this capability. Luckily, AirTags have a built-in speaker that you can activate to help locate it.

The leather holder costs more than the tag. And, you can’t attach it to anything without the holder (Velcro, sticky tape, and Gorilla glue excepted)😦

Just moved to Preparing for Shipment (single AirTag, no engraving, UK)
My UK pre-order (two tags, no engraving) is also Preparing to ship. Must be shipping from China?

Thought that initially but I’ve seen this early movement in the last couple of phone cycles and it’s just sat at this status for a few days before being dispatched from within the UK. I wonder if these will be sent via a more economic (slower) service with Royal Mail given the lower item value

Yes, the good old days of getting a tracking number that lets an order be followed all the way from China seem to be long gone. But if they are already in the UK I can't see why they go to 'preparing to ship' nearly a week before delivery, so I suspect they may get the shipping label stuck on in China but then ship in bulk to the UK distribution centre. The bulk order is then broken down on Thursday, scanned (tracking available) and then out for delivery Friday.

That’s a good shout. Makes sense

Yeah but they need a fob/case.... that’s the extra $

Only if you want (and those are separate products). Double-sided tape works too (or just by themselves, if the thing you're trying to keep track of has a pocket/compartment you can put it in).
