I'm excited to try this product out. I hope they have different form factors like tile. One for my keyring and one for my wallet would be nice.

Do these types of devices (e.g. Tile, Trackr, etc.) really deliver value to customers? Does anyone here have any praise for gadgets like these?

I bought a Tile quite some time ago - just to experiment with it - and it has been a very underwhelming device. Perhaps I don't experience the problem that these types of devices aim to solve. I hope Apple delivers something more substantial than the gadgets from Tile. These things just look like e-waste to me.
My wife lost her keys a few months ago. She drove home, parked the car in the garage, and that was the last time she knew where her keys were.

She used a spare for a few weeks until they showed up in the kids' room, or maybe it was a random the laundry basket.. point is a Tile or AirTag would have been extraordinarily helpful.

Remember, this is more like insurance, for when you *do* lose something, not for when you know where it already is.

This is potentially very useful. More so than other solutions, because as I understand it, every iPhone/iPad can "find" your lost item. For example if you lose your keys in a restaurant, it's almost certain that someone with an iPhone will be near it at some point.

Tile does a similar thing, but they don't have the sheer scale/volume of all iPhone owners out there.

I hadn't considered the "mesh network" side of the equation. Given the prominence of the iPhone, I imagine the location "resolution" would be impressively precise. I'd be into this type of functionality when traveling overseas, but - in 40+ years - I've never lost a phone, keys, wallet or anything like that. Which, of course, means that I'll now lost my wallet tomorrow...

I always thought it would be great if Apple just teased via leaks and “mistakes” a product they had no intention of delivering. It would be hilarious as people kept waiting for a product that was never going to happen. :)

Well since everyone’s Apple devices will be able to locate your tags, then it may become very handy.

I intend to use it on my kids and wife. I do not trust them. I dunno, sounds pretty handy to me.

It’ll probably be handy to hide it in your car too. And glue it to my dog’s dog tag. Probably in my gym bag, because I’m too poor to buy a lock and someone might just steal My Gym Bag. I’m very poor.

if you know you’re going to get chopped up by the government, you can swallow the tag before entering a consulate. And maybe, just maybe, your wife and friends can locate where your tummy is.

I could see if you have a high theft auto like say a Honda for instance, throwing one in the trunk or some hard to find location then maybe you could get your car back or help the police find the chop shop that it is at. Perhaps?

I just got my first apple watch and based on the rumours on the design I wouldn't be surprised if its the size of the apple watch charger and uses the same charging puck. I personally don't know if I would need the tag but would love to see apple license it out to third party companies to build it into their electronic devices.

"Leaked" - lol, when will people learn.

"Leaked" is the new marketing and hype strategy. The video game industry has admitted to using it to test big ideas before announcement.

Wonder when they'll release it. Likely WWDC but could be a random drop too? If they drop iPhone 9 it may also come with a few other things?
COVID-19 means less people going outside, which means less likely to misplace things that AirTag would be attached to. So I am guessing the release may get pushed till this fall.

I could see myself adding these onto my vehicles, riding lawnmower that is outside in the shed, bikes in the shed, pet collars, daughters book bag, if they are stick on I would add it my TV remote, and my wife’s keys.

oops.

On a side note, I'm sort of excited to try this in my car. I mean, it really could work as a lojack sort of thing, at least if you live in a populated area.

I’ve never “lost” anything either, but I misplace things all the time. And then I instantly panic and rummage through the house. Tile has saved me hours of stressing about my misplaced wallet and keys. The Siri shortcut running through HomePod is great too! If it didn’t look ridiculous, I’d attach one to my glasses 🤓
These will be a day 1 buy for me.
