I hope they use the exact same charger. It would be incredibly annoying to add yet another charger to use these.
I never thought about this before but maybe that’s the entire reason that they are around just like the charging puck of the Apple Watch

What's the expected range? Don't Tiles work over only a few feet? Seems like at that range locating your bike should be easy.
It's a mesh solution. Any Apple Device that supports the technology and sees the tag will "report it" through the mesh. Supposedly the solution also deals with temporary disconnects as a device stores tags that it has seen but it has not yet reported.

It's a technical challenge, and it requires a fair amount of adoption, but it is *very* interesting if Apple can pull it off.

I didn’t realize these would be rechargeable at all (maybe I missed that in a previous report). That seems like a game changer vs Tile.

I dunno, for something like this having a replaceable battery seems like a better idea, easier to keep whatever you have the tag attached to circulating

The only thing I want an AirTag on is my AppleTV remote.

I'm actually seriously hoping they'll incorporate whatever they build into the trackers into all their accessories too. Having the airtag basically "built-in" in their wireless keyboards, mice, headphones, remotees, etc would both be a nice value-add and give an easy install base for them to keep working on the software while airtag adoption ramps up (or even if it doesnt).

This is a ‘day one’ purchase for me. When we (As consumers) have the tendency of misplacing our personal items that cost us [time and money] for searching that ultimately may never be found, you can’t put a price on the simplicity of what the Airtags will execute. A product like this will have uses for endless situations. This is just another massive monopoly for Apple to capitalize on.

If they used either Qi or the same charger as the Watch, that would be A+ in my book.

This! I also want to be able to setup basic rules. Example: alert my watch if my phone is more than XX feet away. Or: if this AirTag leaves my neighborhood, alert my phone.

I wish it would use the same wireless charger as the Apple Watch. One less charger to carry around and it will make the current watch charger more useful since it won't just be used to charge the watch.
But if it's the same charger as Apple Watch, that would imply it wouldn't charge from standard Qi chargers which would be a mistake. No one wants to purchase and carry around a charger that literally costs more than the device they are charging. Apple Watch needs to be charged every day but these tags will need to be charged so rarely, it's hardly worth it. Qi chargers are cheaper, ubiquitous and already work for all iPhones from the past few years so that standard makes much more sense for something like this.

I wouldn’t have thought this market would have been big enough for Apple to jump into it. Maybe I’m missing something...

An Apple TV remote isn't attached to a bulky object like a bike.
which affects how often you would have to charge it, how?

Or is the point that it's a pain to charge if it's attached to a bike? (Presumably not permanently attached, though?)

if they will be indeed waterproof....it will be huge for an electronic device...again waterproof and not water resistance

let's not forget about those of us who don't have an apple watch)
It's very likely they'll include a charger with the tags.

I don't think the tags are going to cost less than $29. I mean, it's Apple we're talking about here. I highly doubt they're going to price a tracker with sophisticated tech for less than what they are charging for a watch power cable. Samsung's already charging $99 for their own tracker. Granted, Samsung's tracker uses LTE but I don't expect Apple to price their trackers anywhere near $20-30.

It's very likely they'll include a charger with the tags.

perhaps they will sell a starter bundle that will include one as well as single ones. kind of like philips hue.

Fair enough.

Point being, they last a LONG time without charging.

i realize that. and imac remotes from way back when also lasted forever. which is what i was expecting from these, until i saw this post...

As a tile owner I want to try these but I don’t understand the logic of the mock up design. I hope it’s not like the mock up where it’s rounded out surface as it makes it difficult to mount it. Also no key ring? Common attached tile is the key. Adding a holder to an airtag just increases the bulk of the design. Airtag is a good idea since there’s a huge number iOS users. Tile is nearly becomes useless if your not close by. As big as tile is not a lot of people actually use it.

With all the buildup these things are getting, they'd better be good. On second thought, more like spectacular.

I think the looks are pure speculation. I just want the stupid things to not set my phone off all the time.

Daily? I mean if iPhone, Apple Watch, iPad, MacBook and MacBook Pro's are any indication.

yea, if that's the case, they can shove these tags. of course if they don't pull them out soon enough - they may not be able to recover them once the battery drains...
