LOL look at his screen clearly showing some variation of Solitaire on it! Wasting tax payers money still..

Aside from it not being Solitare as has already been pointed out, he hasn't held public office for years - so how exactly would he be "wasting tax payer's money"?

Thanks for posting that and clearing things up, nowhere in there does he say he "invented" the internet.

His comments about the internet were in reference to providing funding to the guys who were developing and improving the internet. And call me crazy, but I think that's a good thing.

doesnt change the fact that he did, though!

So where's the quote? So far the only response has been a video in which he does not say it.

Created.. Invented.. Same difference.

If it doesn't make a difference, then why do those who criticize him insist on wording that he never actually said?

A) Al Gore is an incredibly brilliant person. But, if you watch Faux News, you think every liberal: Al Gore, Hillary Clinton, Obama, etc. are evil people. He didn't invent the internet, but he is one of the major people who saw the value in what it could do and proposed legislation to get it funded by the government.

B) Al Gore is on Apple's board of directors and Steve Jobs has thanked him many times for providing valuable assistance. He DEFINITELY would know if a new iPhone(s) was coming out.

C) Global Warming is real. The weather is becoming more drastic in its swings of hot and cold, which is predicted. Just because you can point out a record low, doesn't make global warming false, SORRY Faux News. It is pretty much agreed upon by real scientists. The average temperature is still rising. The sad part is, in 50 years, it will the people who preached against global warming that will be screaming "WHY DIDN'T WE DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT!?"

Global warming isn't some conspiracy theory. Law makers pass laws to stop green house gasses for a reason. You don't see law makers passing laws to stop obscure conspiracies.

D) Santa Claus really exists!

Seriously, law makers pass laws to get tax money.

did though, as in "did (help) create the internet (as we know it)".

Look up DARPAnet...

You see, the government does not create or legislate job growth...

Did YOU look up DARPAnet? It was part of the department of defense, therefore government funded.

So make up your mind, the government does do some good things or it doesn't?

Thank you! I was using the internet and e-mail at a large corporation before we ever heard of Al Gore. Albeit it was not as easy to use as today but Al Gore has had nothing to do with that.

Gore first held national office in 1977 (US house). You were using the internet and email before that?

Gore Lore

Wonder if is going to fly his Jet he leaves running on the tarmac while giving his "Go green' speeches to pick it up?

Typical DO AS I SAY, NOT AS I DO !

the first page is seriously the funnies page I have ever read on macrumors. I wish he would give the keynote on the iPhone,

"Using the built in WiFi you can connect to the internet! A Series of Tubes!" :D

He should know all about the upcoming iPhone considering he invented it.

From inventing the internet to foreseeing the release of iPhones, what a talented guy!

Umm, maybe it is plural since Apple plans to sell millions and not just one!

"An Inconvenient Early Termination Fee"

Al Gore works for apple? :p

Sorry, but jokes have to make SOME kind of sense for people to get them.

I own a single share of Apple stock just so I can vote against Al Gore every year.

I am so depressed now....

Certainly I expect no pity but I thought I would at least make my feelings known.
My plans were to replace my wife and my Blackberry phones (AT&T) next month with two new i-phones and buy an i-pad 2 for music apps. As some may know the i-pad is the only tablet and the i-phone the only smart phone that youcan use for digital recording. IK Multimedia makes some fine interfaces for them. The problem with Android and Honeycomb is somewhere in the input and it causes high latency (the time between what you play goes into the phone and returns to your ear). With the i-pad/i-phone you can do it without noticable lag time... not with the others... so I was all set to buy 2 i-phones and an i-pad 2... then today I hear that Al Gore is on the Apple board of directors.
Al Gore is so disgusting to me that I am not sure if I can, in good conscience, buy Apple products.
Sometimes ignorance is bliss. Why would Apple have this moron on their board?

Yeah, I know... no one cares (Apple is not going to miss my purchase, it is like a drop in the ocean... but it matters to me). I guess shoud get over it but I am "old school" and I CARE who profits from my spending. I can overlook a lot but I don't know if I can overlook this.

Someone tell me how to set this aside. I don't want to think about Al Gore making one cent off me when I look at my phones and tablet... I know that it sounds trivial... but as a potential customer, it matters to me.

Does anyone care or have any words of wisdom for me? I don't need the wise cracks... but I can handle them if you feel the need.
You may not understand, but this is a problem for me. I really want two i-phones and an i-pad2...

Perhaps I should not take things so seriously but I do.

Help me out if you can.

Julien

What's getting released is a corporate secret

So one of three things is happening:

1. Gore is guessing like the rest of us

2. Gore was authorized by the company to make that statement based on inside knowledge

3. Gore just blew his fiduciary duty as a board member by exposing corporate secrets

Good god, what did Al Gore do to you? Kill your first born child? Anything less and you're seriously over reacting.

Actually the quote was:
"We've been informed by Toby Shapshak, the editor of Stuff Magazine in South Africa that is attending the conference, that his quote was specifically: "Not to mention the new iPhones coming out next month. That was a plug."

Shapshak says that the statement was definitely plural, although it wasn't clear whether that meant two different models, as the statement was not clarified in any way by Gore."

Which is does not mean that he knows anything, only that he's not to talk about it. I understand this as, he's not to talk about rumored/unreleased products.

what, one communist jerking off another? I'm impressed

I have a lot against Gore, but complaints over the Internet comment are baseless. In context, he was taking about how he was about the only one in Congress who grasped the future potential of the Internet, and pushed hearings and laws to make the Internet as we know it today happen. He may have not been the smartest on the details, IIRC pronouncing a router as "rooter," but he grasped the larger concept and pushed it.

To me that almost, but not quite, makes up for his Big Brother efforts to force a government backdoor to private encryption.

Look up DARPAnet or do some basic research and you will see the Internet has been around a while and when it became commercially viable, that had nothing to do with clinton or gore. You see, the government does not create or legislate job growth, the market does.

Nope, increasing taxes and increase spending on unionized construction and education is what creates jobs. It also supposedly helps one to get re-elected.
