I think the part where they will send you a jailbroken iPhone to use the app might cause them the most legal trouble from Apple. I can't see this lasting too long.

I really wish the Pebble guy could get involved with a successful start-up. I really liked the Pebble Time, I still have one in a drawer somewhere.
Possibly a DMCA takedown for shipping jailbroken phones?
Nothing illegal about sending an obsolete device, jailbroken or not, to someone. They aren't charging for the device.

It’s not Apple’s responsibility to do that if you want iMessage access buy an Apple product.

This should remain an Apple exclusive product like Apple Pay and Mac OS.
If I were Apple, I would still do it. The potential for revenue stream for the services side is quite large. People who want iPhone will still buy iPhone. This is to serve (and profit) from those outside the traditional Apple ecosystem.

They are charging for the service. They won’t send you the jailbroken phone unless you are paying them. The law isn’t so easily fooled.

Looks like a very dope app. Only issue is that with all the effort required in the workaround, you might as well get an iPhone if you absolutely want to use iMessage.

I see your point, however I still don't see how it violates DMCA. Jailbreaking your phone is not illegal. Voids your warranty and you lose any support from Apple, but still not illegal.

This is one of the times I look forward to Apple lowering the boom on Beeper.
Why?
Have at it, Apple
In before this gets killed off...
To those who think this will get axed, the Messages app on the Mac supports Automator and other integrations with processes running on the same machine. Are you suggesting they should cripple the Messages App? Why would they do that? This bridge still requires Apple hardware.

All of that because Apple stubbornly refuses to open up iMessage to a broader user base. Maybe in the U.S. it has created a more effective lock-in, but everywhere else people flat out ignore it as a messaging option. I haven't received a single text from a friend or colleague on iMessage in several months, other than dual authentication codes.

if that's true why is AirMessage still going...? Can't see what the fuss is about tbh. All it does is copy messages in/out of iMessage on MacOS. There's no 'hack' involved.
Fair enough

Edit: Though I do see a huge potential for privacy issues.

I'd love to have a better solution for texting and sharing with Android users in my family without all the image and video compression and stalled group messages … but I ain't paying $10 per month for that convenience.

What a security nightmare.
However much I’d want iMessage on other platforms, throwing all your messaging services into one app is just asking for trouble.
I use native apps because they are end to end encrypted. This just opens a new path to be compromised.
They don’t mention security or privacy on their website, only convenience.
