In a similar theme, I just came across this article. It's another way the carriers are out to screw customers.

This article should probably be a whole new thread.

T-Mobile, AT&T oppose unlocking rule, claim locked phones are good for users

Disgusting anti consumer practices, what other developed western nation locks their phones in this day and age ?

And how about how these companies have zero shame

Just flat out lying 100% right in the open to everyones face

Integrity is seemingly just totally gone

They will say anything, do anything, lobby anyone they need to... for "more money power and control"
It's just disgusting

When the iPhone 14 series launched in the U.S., Apple promoted eSIMs as being more secure than a physical SIM since they cannot be removed from an iPhone that is lost or stolen. Apple added that up to eight eSIMs can be managed in the iPhone's Settings app, eliminating the need to obtain, carry, and swap physical SIM cards while traveling. iPhone 13 and newer models can have two eSIMs active at the same time.

With eSIM availability expanding, the SIM card tray might eventually be removed from iPhones sold outside of the U.S., but for now it lives another year.
Finally watched the Apple event, and not paid attention to Apple news for three months so commenting and catching up.

Rumor from industrial source is Apple WAS planning on having iPhone 16 be esim only globally and even made prototype model of it in spring in anticipation of it.

Unfortunately, China was not having it, forcing Apple to abandon the plans and have esim again in US only to save on manufacturing costs.

By having it esim only, Apple hopefully was able to offer even larger battery, and even 2TB option on the pros for first time, but at this point, it's looking grim if that ever happens. (eliminating the sim tray is only way to make 2TB or more possible on iPhone right now)
