I live in Kansas, aka farmland where you'd think we'd be last to get anything, and we have 18 retina macbooks between our two stores. (local stores to me in the northeast--there is probably an apple store elsewhere in teh state)

I think most of the people lacking demo units are the ones outside the US

Just because you couldn't buy a Watch or new MacBook doesn't mean anything. There are still a ton of things for sale in Apple Stores. I don't know how many times people need to be told the same two things, but here we go again.

1) Apple never once said the MacBook would be available to buy in stores April 10th! They said it would be SHIPPING through the online store, retail stores and authorized resellers.

2) Quanta Taiwan botched the job. They were making Watches with a 70% defect rate last month and way behind on MacBook production. There was a limited supply because Quanta failed miserably.

True, no promises or guarantees were ever given. However, Apple takes great effort in promoting their message of best products, experience, and world class customer service.

When you ask anybody, who is the king of supply chain management? Names like Apple and Amazon quickly come to mind.

So, on Mar. 9th Apple basically announces that starting on April 10th the wait for most people will begin. This product launch seems very unApple like.

Why not just avoid the backlash? A) Delay the launch or B) tell everybody upfront that unlike other launches there are going to be long delays in getting this product to most people.

We went from 2-3 days to 4-6 weeks in 48 hours. I am willing to bet that people like Tim Cook are not impressed. These are the same supply issues that plagued Apple many years ago.

All companies seem to be going this way now. Instead of communicating and feeding back to its consumer base when things go wrong they keep quiet. I'm sure there must be a very simple business reason for it, but for the life of me I can't think what it is!

Precisely. The old Apple was quick to acknowledge issues and remedy them.

I was happy--kind of--to see the 4-6 weeks number, because it meant I'd theoretically have the same wait time no matter what I ordered. So I got to get exactly what I wanted, which included a non-standard keyboard!

When I ordered mine yesterday from New Zealand (256GB 1.3ghz BTO model) it was 4-6 weeks shipping - but this morning I got an email confirmation stating 3-4 weeks shipping, with a revised delivery date of early May. So some of you might find that initial estimate changing ...

This is the same employee that said he would pull it off the truck for you today

Yep - and he fed me ********. Showed up today and the other employees had no idea what he was talking about. Every employee there has been pulling info out of their ass since Friday.

I am not calling anyone a liar, but don't these get dropped off by the Apple rep? At least thats what they do at my store. But my local BB has one of those "Apple sections" like its own little personal make shift store/display. But i thought most BB had these now. Funny its right next to the HUGE MS area lol.

That's what I thought too. The Apple Rep at my BB is hardly ever there and when he is he doesn't give me a solid answer...ever.:(

Hmm. Meanwhile, my order is still in processing.
