I wonder if they will still use a Dynamic Island type pop-up showing various app functions etc. Obviously they may change the name, but I really like DI, and now that it’s a standard across all new iPhones maybe the app developers will continue to develop it.
The DI isn't going anywhere. It serves a purpose well beyond obfuscating hardware. The main difference will be that it doesn't have to display 100% of the time, and can fade away entirely for things like full screen games and video playback.

But how will people live without the best invention of the 21st century the island?!?

This is exactly what I hope to see. I really like how they have at least utilized the "dead space" where the FaceID and front camera module are. I know some don't see value in it, but I am fan and I hope they continue with it, in way in which you describe.

We've got to solve problems that don't exist!!!! /s

Software is where the real room for improvement is on smartphones. Unfortunately, a lot of the software development seems to go into subscription services or hardware features that don't actually provide much utility.

Or, they can just get rid of the front facing camera, switch to Touch ID, and have a full screen display ready to go for the iPhone 16’s.

I don’t think I’ve used the selfie camera in a phone in years.

Its a Notch, and Apple can still annoy everyone by placing the software blob in the same spot. I beg of you Apple, please have an on/off toggle,..hate the old Notch and current Notch!

what about the dynamic notch? I saw a kind of home made ad on YouTube.

You never had FaceTime or video call or video conference using your phone?

Welcome to 2020 Apple!
The fact that a multi billion dollar company can’t fix something simple and has to make up for it with an gimmick called “Dynamic Island” says it all.

But then again, 5 years after doesn’t seem that bad. They discovered nearly 20 year old technology this year by some rules from overseas lol.
Are you implying that there are under display cameras that don't have degraded image quality?

I do not like the idea, because how can you cover the camera with a sticker, if it is under the display? Then the sticker will hide a part of the display and the advantage of a camera under the display is gone.

And why do people want to film themselves? 90% of people are not beautiful enough to get filmed.
Pictures with friends so I can remember what I did 20 years from now since my memory sucks

We’re reaching peak iPhone.

The amount of innovation and creativity necessary after this is going to be unimaginable.

An iPhone that's all screen with no notch or island cutout is clearly the smartphone end-form. Now to get rid of the rear camera bump.

There are at least 5 patents Apple has received for UDC and the mission continues. Unfortunately looks as though this feature is not coming in the near future
Hopefully I’m wrong 🤞

They’ve also indicated that their end-game involves eliminating all the buttons and ports.

iPhone 20 could be the most transformational iPhone of all-time, if they can hold out that long to introduce the next completely redesigned generation.

I would say it absolutely ruins the whole user experience with the device as configured with Dynamic Island - it actually is worse than the notch at interrupting videos and so forth. Bad design language decisions for years so everyone knows from the front the use is using iPhone. I pray for the day Apple eliminates the monstrosity.

I haven’t even upgraded my iphone 12 pro max to the 16 pro max. Now i am already dreaming of an all screen iphone 19 pro max.

Before the Dynamic Island, the iPhone had a totally rectangular display, with the camera above it, and some additional space at the bottom for the Home Button with TouchID.
Then the iPhone X came, and we got "The Notch".
• The negative people said: "Ugh! There's a notch on my displpay, I'm losing all that display area!"
• The positive people said: "Nice! Apple expanded the rectangular display to the top and the bottom. Now I have gained that display area around the notch to display the time and other information that previously was taking space on the top of my rectangular display! Thank you!".

Later, the notch became the Dynamic Island as we know it.
