iPad makes sense. iPhone doesn’t. It enables iPad to connect to high res external displays. Remember Stage Manager? Also high speed external storage. No such application for iPhone.

Okay I'm gonna stop you right there fam.

Did you know the iPhone can record 4K footage? Did you also know that the iPhone Pros can record in ProRes?

Do you know how how big 4K and ProRes footage are? Gigabytes worth.

Do you know what data transfer speed Lightning is? USB 2.0. Limited to small megabytes

USB-C transfers gigabytes in less than a minute

This is why millions wanted the iPhone on USB-C already.

For the last time: Going portless is a horrible idea on so many levels

Going portless means data recovery goes bye bye, as well as OS recovery as installing a fresh OS backup of iOS or recovering a corrupted iPhone requires a physical connection

Going portless also means data transfer becomes an even bigger nightmare with how often the wireless AirDrops of big files fail

Going portless means wired headphones become unusable even more than they are already as now without a headphone jack or a spot for a dongle you're forced to use expensive jank bluetooth headphones that eventually will no longer hold a charge and cannot support lossless quality.

Not to mention charging via wireless is a lot slower than physical connections, and wastes so much electricity with how inaccurate it is.
At this point I would love that Apple launched that ridiculous product just to see how many lemmings would jump on it. Or not.

All of that is contingent on bad Wi-Fi and AirDrop. 6E is here or will be here. I’m confident Apple can improve AirDrop.

My AirDrops of ProRes footage I recorded failed even when my phone was right next to my Macbook Pro. It got to the point I just said "**** it" and plugged it in. Would rather have dealt with the slow ass transfer speeds of lightning than gamble that maybe, just maybe this time I can successfully AirDrop 30 gbs of footage.

This is why the iPhone 15 going USB-C next year is an objectively good change, a change worthy enough to upgrade even if you already have a 14. It's that night and day how much better USB-C is.

I can’t remember the last time I used a lightning cable if I’m honest.
I have a MagSafe Duo in my room and a normal MagSafe charger on the phone mount in my car.

Not saying it’s a great idea, but you clearly see the enabling pieces have been falling into place for years.

MagSafe has been here for a couple years. AirPods much longer. Apple has been testing OTA/Internet recovery since iOS 13. From their perspective, portless improves security and reliability. EU may have pulled in Apple’s schedule by a year or so, but portless is clearly the end goal.

Same. So far, my iPhone charges overnight via MagSafe and has enough juice to last the day.

I get the desire for a thunderbolt port on the iPhone for faster file transfers and am personally indifferent to the type of port on the iPhone. Let's hope Apple doesn't do a middle finger by still giving users a usb-c port with 2.0 transfer speeds.

Like I said, Wi-Fi 6E.

Surely, you must know by now if Apple thinks their vision is best, they will do it. What if people want removable storage? What about people who want a headphone jack? SIM cards?

When I am moving 400+ photos and videos from my phone at work which I do in a regular basis, a wifi technology that I don’t have access to is pretty pointless. Plugging a phone into a computer and doing it the traditional way is way more reliable and faster.

Apple wants you to transfer via AirDrop or Wifi.
No ****, Sherlock.

Apple wants a lot of things for its investors. I want the best possible iPhone.

Do you care to remind me how fast Thunderbolt 3 and 4 are vs airdrop and WiFi?

For simplicity sake, just give me theoretical airdrop and WiFi mbps even though they only come into play under perfect conditions.

*I know your kind and the “next to no iPhone user is a professional, we don’t need Thunderbolt. Apple is always perfect and only gives us what we need. Please, hand over all of your belonging to the great Tim Cook!”.

Okay, but what specs and features in general are fitting for us plebs? What does Apple deem good enough for us peasants?

Why is there even three cameras on iPhones Pro, or really any camera?

And why OLED or LCD? We’re not shooting photos for National Geographic, surely dot matrix is also fine, right?

And why does the $479 iPad 10 with its inferior everything including the camera get USB-C while Apple’s $990+ flagship iPhone Pro is stuck with the same old 2012 I/O?

A $999 smartphone should come with a 2022 I/O, not a 2012 one.

Gee you have been holding that for a long time! I am honored you chose me as your punching bag. No hard feelings.

I wouldn’t be surprised if they sold USB C models in Europe and Lightning model’s elsewhere. They already have three different variants when it comes to physical and eSIMs around the world. If they can do that they could also offer both USB C in Europe and Lightning models elsewhere.
I added a "like" to this post, but that was because I think its entirely possible they could ship the USB-C version only in Europe, just like they sent the only e-SIM models to the US. I'm not agreeing to it; I'm just saying it's possible.

Pulling out of Europe, so that they can keep some ancient useless thing? You must hire Boris Johnson for your cause. Applexit? 😂

To be fair anybody who suggested that either failed economics at school or should steer well clear of ever operating a business.

Over a quarter of Apples global sales are in the European market.
Tbh you don’t really need any academic background, just common sense to reason that pulling out of Europe is certainly not in a company’s best interest.

They always have a choice. Most of them won't give the consequences/results they want, but they are choices.

And I don't understand why just wireless is good, but wireless AND Lightning is bad? You still have wireless as an option either way

But then why on earth did Apple do ProRes on iPhones? I’m supposed to record 100s of GBs of raw footage on my 1TB Pro Max and just sit around and wait for hours to transfer via lightning?
Transferring data at 480Mbps (60MB) in 2022 stifles innovation.

Apple started this when they made their 2016-2019 laptops USB-C only. Apart from the HDMI and SD port, the current laptops are still USB-C.

Current lineup.
iMac: 2/4 USB-C ports.
Mac Pro: 10 USB-C ports.
Mac mini: 2 USB-C/2 USB A ports.
Mac Studio: 6 USB-C/2 USB A ports.
MBP: 3 USB-C ports
MBA: 2 USB-C ports.

The whole line up is USB-C.

We know Apple is aiming to go portless. The EU directive only applies to devices that are ”capable of wired charging.” Without a port, iPhone is incapable of wired charging. It’s not dissimilar from the iPhone 14 lacking a SIM tray which has literally a plastic spacer in place of the tray.

If iPhone 15 offers Wi-Fi 6E and higher power MagSafe, there’s no much reason to have USB-C for EU.
So **** over everyone that has bought a vehicle with wired CarPlay over the last 7 years?

That’ll go over well.

Apple should pull out of Europe!

USB-C was coming to Apple products anyway. Pretty obvious with past and recent product releases.

EU whining about it to make headlines and to be viewed as the saviors that made it a “standard” is laughable.

No, we aren’t quiet. 👊😙👍
Yeah, it was very nice of the EU to change their “CHANGE IMMEDIATELY” stance to “change in a few years which just so happens aligns with your normal product development practices”. I’ve seen this “requirement coming after the changes have been made” happening in other parts of the world, too.

Apple doesn’t have to pull out of the EU. Prices have gone up so much, the EU will just stop buying Apple products until their currency gets stronger again. :)

That was the point of my post. A couple of other people responded to my post using the words benefit and advantage. It doesn’t have anything to do with them nor did I say they definitely will do that. At the end of the day they’ve obviously stuck with the lightning connector on the iPhones for this long for a reason.

Apple will do what Apple wants to do and I wouldn’t put it past them to offer USB C in Europe and lightning in the rest of the world. Of course it doesn’t make sense and USB C is far more efficient not to mention far more universal and interchangeable. I do hope that Apple does the right thing and offer iPhones with USB C worldwide.
