I'm tired of waiting for a TouchID Magic Keyboard with USB-C so I'm just going to go for the Lightning version and a second Magic Trackpad 2 as soon as all the Black Friday deals are available.

“You’re in a desert walking along in the sand when all of the sudden you look down, and you see a Magic Mouse on its last gasp. You flip it over and plug in a Lightning Cable.”

”What’s a Magic Mouse?“

”It’s like a mouse, but it’s magic.”

”Tell me about your Windows laptop.”

“Let me tell you about MY WINDOWS LAPTOP!!!”

"Apple also sells a variety of cables and adapters that feature Lightning connections and ports, so keep an eye out if you're shopping Apple's accessories for your legacy devices." - from story. I guess they are considering that a cable, though it is iffy.

You’d think Apple would’ve taken the soonest opportunity to change the awkward, frankly ridiculous Magic Mouse design.
where else are they supposed to put the port? I personally charge it once every 6 months. Plus it charges in 1-2 hours. I never understood this complaint.

Hopefully when they come out with a USB-C to HDMI adapter they support the latest hdmi version, right now the lightning version does not work with streaming services like Disney in Paramont, they say the hardware is not compatible.

Which isn’t on sale 🤦‍♂️
your literal exact words were "But I can’t buy an Apple mouse that doesn’t have lightning"

yes, yes you can literally buy an Apple mouse that doesn't have lightning on eBay today.

don't move the goal post next time 🤦‍♂️

here is an idea, just stop buying lightning devices instead of whining about it.
Alternative idea being to not make purchasing choices based on the shape of the hole you stick the cable in to charge a battery.

Perhaps it’s only a very tiny percentage of users overall who have this view and the vast majority, and Apple themselves, don’t share this view.

what a mess, I’ll be using lighting until I die at apples rate of usb c adoption

I think the major complaint is that it can’t be used as a wired mouse because of where the charging port is. But yeah, it’s not like mice need to be charged or have their batteries replaced all that often.

If the OP in this thread doesn't convince people how much Tim Cook is not a products person, I don't know what will. Macs have had USB-C since 2016, yet Cook is still selling products with Lightning.

This is what happens when you have an MBA as CEO instead of a visionary.

You mean the person who released one of the first laptops with USB-C and went all in with USB-C on the MacBooks? Fun fact, you can charge your Lightning accessories with the USB-C ports on those Macs. I mean, you might not get TB4 data speeds when charging your mouse, but I think it will be ok.

There was no need to reinvent the mouse cord connection position, even if it’s mostly for a short charge on a wireless mouse.

This is about having 0 mouse downtime if you ignore low battery warnings or forget to plug in after the warning and before walking away from the Mac or iPad.

MagSafe charging is an extra option, hopefully one that they’d include without bumping the already high price.

Plug it in and go to the bathroom or get a drink of water and your mouse will have enough charge for the day. Bet you’ll remember to charge it that night.

No matter how many more years Tim Cook gives us Lightning—with 23 year old USB 2.0 technology—there will still be many people on this forum who support him and think he's doing an excellent job. They will point to Apple's massive profits as proof. As if profits are synonymous with good products. Yet these same Apple fanboys on this forum would criticize Steve Ballmer (and rightfully so) for his tenure as Microsoft CEO, despite him making massive record profits for Microsoft, because of Microsoft made low-quality products during that time. Where is the logical consistency?

Hard too take someone seriously when their argument against a mouse’s charging port is data speed.

What if I was in the middle of doing something? Literally every other wireless mouse I've ever purchased in my years either had AA/AAA batteries or a ****ing USB plug on the top like a sensible person.

Whoever decided to put the plug on the bottom was straight up unhinged crazy.

But let's be real here. The reason they did that was they didn't want people plugging in the mouse and leaving it plugged in all the time. Of course, this never stopped them from placing it on the top/back of the magic trackpad and magic keyboard.

And in fact, using THOSE plugged in 24/7 is actually advantageous. See, the keyboard and trackpad will auto-pair with whatever they're plugged into via USB. Additionally, when plugged in via USB they don't use bluetooth, so they are more reliable. (This is at least true with the trackpad). These things are fantastic if you're using multiple computers on a KVM.

I'll also add that having the connector on the top of the mouse would've taken up less vertical space, allowing them to make it thinner. ;)

But yea, I'm like 95% positive the reason they did that was they didn't want people leaving it plugged in.

Anyway, your counter to this is probably "then don't buy one, it's not for you" and you'd mostly be right, but when you buy an iMac they still come with that stupid useless mouse unless you BTO - and the BTO is about a week or two wait.

It's hilarious because the trackpad and keyboard are fantastic.
