I'm all for the simplicity of a USB-C standardization but the e-waste angle is a stretch. If I look at the amount of trash my family produces in a week, the rare extra cable or charger is just a rounding error in a world of plastic packaging and designed-to-fail consumer electronics.

Hard too take someone seriously when their argument against a mouse’s charging port is data speed.
It's also hard to take someone seriously who describes a Lightning port as a "mouse's charging port" when the rest of the tech world has moved on to USB-C as a do-everything solution for 10+Gbps data and 180+ W power simultaneously.

Only thing I use my lightning cables for is my 2017 iPad. Other than that I just use Mag safe charger for my promax iPhone 14 It’s time to go portless

There are many devices still sold with micro usb ports.

I recently bought a ugreen USB C to 4xUSB A adapter and it has a micro usb power port. I gave it to a friend.

People need to stop being so precious.

I wasn't talking about the mouse's charging port. I was talking about this:

Will take a really long time before the Lightning cable is completely discontinued. A lot of Apple products use the port

You’d think Apple would’ve taken the soonest opportunity to change the awkward, frankly ridiculous Magic Mouse design.
This design was introduced 14 years ago. So no, nobody was expecting for Apple to change this design at the "soonest opportunity".
I work with the mouse every day for several hours. The design is fine for me. I charge the mouse every now and then over night, and frankly I don't really care that it is using Lightning. If it had been Mini/Micro USB, I still would not care, as charging the mouse is not something I do frequently. I have a cable that fits the mouse and keyboard (labeled "desktop accessories") in my drawer. Even if Apple had introduced new Mouse and Keyboard with the latest event, I would see little reason to by these. Why would I, if the old devices work perfectly for me?

What if I was in the middle of doing something? Literally every other wireless mouse I've ever purchased in my years either had AA/AAA batteries
and what if AA runs out of juice in the middle of you doing something? amount of time spent swapping batteries is how long you'll need to leave it plugged in to charge up for the day. that's if you forget to plug after macOS reminds you 3-4 times to do it, meanwhile AA batteries in Magic Mouse 1st gen need to be replaced every month

see how it works? this is why Apple designs products and customers don't. because they have no clue how to make products.

Isn't the Apple TV remote still Lightning?
No, I have the latest Apple TV 4K and the remote is USB-C. It’s my first and so far only Apple device with USB-C. I had to buy the braided USB-C to USB-C cable separately. My next USB-C Apple device will probably be a iPad mini 7, followed by the 16 Pro.

“In September 2023, over a decade later, Apple caught up with the rest of the industry and removed the Lightning port from its flagship iPhone 15 series, replacing it with USB-C, the widely adopted standard used in electronics for connectivity and charging.”

Apple caught up? Sure, but wasn‘t Lightning ahead of the competition for years when it came out?
Yes it was. Back then. And then Apple got left behind as the others leapfrogged.
The Lighting could not get faster, USB 3 with its USB-C could.

Firtst gen iPad Pro used Lightning with USB 3.0 (5gbps) speeds. So no, you are incorrect. Actually it was faster than the base iPhone 14, which only does USB 2.0 speeds... over USB-C.

Never buying another lighting product. Literally waiting to buy an iMac until it comes with USB-C keyboard and trackpad.

It’s out of principle at this point.
Same thoughts here exactly. I waited patiently for a couple years to get an updated iMac. Was all set to preorder right after the event but the Lightning peripherals completely turned me off. What a huge disappointment.

I’m hoping Apple will eventually repackage the iMac with USB-C peripherals but I’m skeptical. They can make more money selling them separately. The majority of iMac users probably don’t care and those that do will probably just purchase the new peripherals when released.

I just upgraded my kids to iPad 10’s (from the 9’s) and my wife and I just got USB-C APP 2’s (from Lightning APP 2’s) just to be able to get rid of all Lightning cables. I’ll be damned if I’m going to buy more new stuff that have a dying port on them.

Is that USB C with 3.0, 3.1, 3.2 (gen 1 or 2, or 2x2), 4 or 4.2? Or is it just charging (an entire different conversation)
It all depends on the USB C cable. USB C is a complete mess. I know what I’m getting with an authorised lightning cable.

They will come but I guess the thinking was: the sales of the iMac are through the floor prior to the refresh, we've got a huge inventory of lightning mice and keyboards in all the different colours. If we sell the old peripherals with the new refreshed computers which will get a sales boost then that will use up the existing inventory.

And then they'll launch some new peripherals with the refreshed Mac Studio or something next year. iMacs will then quietly begin shipping with the new peripherals but most people who wanted an M3 iMac will have already bought the computer, and of course you can pay Apple for the new peripherals if you want them.

I know it's depressing but it's how Tim Cook operates.

Guess you shouldn’t have ignored the multiple low battery warnings you’ve seen for a least a week. Take a break, stretch your legs, and get drink of water; five minutes of charging and you’re good for the day.

I wasn't talking about the mouse's charging port. I was talking about this:
Irrelevant in a thread about BT accessories like a mouse.

Out of interest, why didn’t you just buy some cheap USBC cable from somewhere else?
