Trade mark the name " iCharge Dock" or "iCharge Mat". Let see if this comes to light. Lol

Honestly, I would rather they dump wireless charging, and make the phone thick enough to accommodate a flush camera lens and bring back the headphone jack. If they did that, it would be a day one purchase, but it is wishful thinking. Wireless charging is inefficient, and causes the heat issues. I have never had any issues with any of my lightning cables, and don't have a problem just plugging it in. I usually charge it on my nightstand while I sleep and start my day with 100% battery every day. 99% of my days I make it back to the charger without issue.

They will never go back to a headphone jack. Next you are going to want them to make it a flip phone and include a belt clip. You need to try a set of headphones with the W1 chip, they are amazing. I always hated bluetooth headphones but this new chip completely changed my mind.

Plus, don't forget the fact that the pad plugs into a wall outlet. With a cable. Just saying to the other guy.

If apple implement a long range wireless solution,
where will it plug to, still a wall outlet.
Just saying

I'd rather they just added USB C 3.1 with quick charge and got rid of lightning all together. I really don't see the point of wireless charging when in 15-20 minutes my Pixel XL gains 20% battery and this is not even the fastest charging phone on the market.

Even with the rumored wireless charging; Apple would need to get rid of the iPhone's dependency on iTunes to transfer music/files before I'd ever consider getting another.

Samsung fast wireless charging is faster than Iphone 7 wired charging.

There are tons of options for wireless chargers these days. They don't have to be a block or pad on a flat surface with an ugly wire sticking out of it.

I have one built into my desk at work. Heck, even Ikea has a range of furniture with QI chargers already built in. That might be moot though, Apple surely won't go for solutions that are available more or less everywhere without paying the Apple Tax.

Travel is no problem at all - no cell phones that support wireless charging today has dropped the charging/usb port, so you can always bring a tiny traditional charger if you want.

And most premium cars comes with charging pad built in

I certainly hope not. Actually never mind hoping, it will never happen. Apple is not the kind of company that goes for the thick brick devices and once it removes something it is byebye. But you are right about the headphone jack. I miss is so much....like a salt in my eyes :)

Seriously now, loving the airpods and the difference it makes not having to untangle wires every time I use them and not having to sort them out of my t-shirt to go in my pockets so they are not having on my chest.

Agreed, I've got a pair of the Airpods and they are far better than any wired earphone, the range on them is fantastic and the W1 chip is just brilliant. And they say Apple can't innovate anymore, yea right.

Apple is widely rumored to launch three new iPhones this year, and KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo now claims that all of them will feature wireless charging.

iPhone 8 concept by UI/UX designer Moe Slah

Kuo said wireless charging increases the internal temperature of smartphones, so he expects the rumored iPhone 8 with an OLED display and glass casing to have a new 3D Touch module with "additional graphite sheet lamination" in order to prevent the device from malfunctioning due to overheating.

An excerpt from Kuo's research note obtained by MacRumors:The new 3D Touch module could be up to $5 more expensive for Apple to procure per phone. While that is a minimal increase, it lends further credence to a report claiming the high-end iPhone 8 could cost upwards of $1,000 in the United States due to a significant redesign and the use of premium parts.

Kuo previously said Apple will switch to all-glass casing for next year's entire iPhone lineup, including the more iterative 4.7-inch iPhone 7s and 5.5-inch iPhone 7s Plus, in order to support wireless charging. It remains unclear if the wireless charging will be based on long-range or inductive technologies.

I've been using a wireless charging case on my iPhone 6 for more than a year. The freedom from a cable is very satisfying

I've been using a wireless charging case on my iPhone 6 for more than a year now and its been a great experience.
The biggest challenge will be if the new iPhones can charge with it inside of a case. In today's market, the charging base is limited on how much material separates the charging circuits.

Inductive charging is what people think wireless charging is.
I completely agree - it's worse than wired charging. You can't move it around or pick it up without stopping charging. I think if Apple want to be different and really appeal to consumers, it would make sense to do RF charging. Inductive charging looks cool but the only widely adopted use case I see is to have your phone charging by your bed.
But my point was that even if it's limited to placing it on a pad at first, that doesn't mean that it's inductive charging and it could be short range RF charging. It can be adapter to long range by changing the transmitter.

Great! Now Ill have to get the new MBP with wireless charging emitter built into it.
Don't worry, that won't happen for a while until the long range transmitters can be miniaturized to that scale.

Hmm I bet this won't be Qi compatible. I've been holding on to my LG Nexus 5 wireless charger and Tylt Vu because of their combination of high style and functionality. I can envision an Apple Wave wireless charger that looks like the Vu but costs $150 AND I'll still buy it.

Can you explain to me how some people never have problems with lighting cables and some always have problem with them? I'm still using first cable from iPone 5 and apart from being yellow it is fine and has not suffered any damage.

Some people are just really hard on stuff. For instance, I have literally never cracked an iPhone screen ever. My friend, at least once for each phone he's had. Mechanical sympathy is not something that can be learned apparently.

Or just make it a little thicker and stuff in a larger batter so we don't have to plug it in as often.

if you think Apple is going reintroduce the headphone jack to a product where they took out the headphone jack, you're insane. that's basically an admission of making a huge mistake taking out a jack.

will they continue to include it in the macbooks and ipads? probably. but they'll never reintroduce it in major new versions of the iPhone. i bet my life on it. it's forever gone from that product.

That is why I said that it was wishful thinking in my previous post. Just because they aren't likely to reverse course on it doesn't mean I have to like it.

Uh, no... I don't want a flip phone. I just want the headphone jack because I use it all the time and I don't want to deal with an adapter. The wirless features don't have to go away because the jack is there. Also, I don't want another set of batteries to manage. Wireless has it's benefits, but I prefer wired for its benefits. I am expecting to hang onto my 6S for quite some time still for this very reason.

I'm hoping it won't be the same as the Android Qi chargers. I have a Qi-compatible Android phone, and I have a few charger pads. Personally, I find next to no value in using them instead of plugging in. If I can charge my iPhone just by walking within range of a transmitter, that's a game-changer in my mind. Hotspots-as-power is a really cool concept. Fast charging won't be as important if constant topping-up is available. If Apple just releases a stopgap pad charger with the iPhone 8, I think I'll be "meh" like many others have said on here.

If it's long range, a "dock" won't be needed
[doublepost=1486668858][/doublepost]
Long range charging will be superior to Qi charging anyways. Won't even need a pad to charge it.
I know it's a work in progress, but I'm skeptical about long range charging happening anytime soon.

I concur. Wireless charging is not something I care about and I do not have issues with my lightening cables either I have one where the insulation came off and it still works.

As both an investor and a customer, when you make the customers happy, the investors tend to be too. As for price, I prefer to buy value. If I buy a $730 iPhone that lasts 2 years, that's $1/day, or if I get a $1095 phone that lasts 3 years, it's still the same price.

"A poor man pays twice."
Cheap is expensive. Expensive is cheap.

Me too. My wife hates it, since it "looks like 'crap'," but it moves electrons around a lot better than the multitude of pretty blue, braided, or fancy ones.

Oh another feature that's already on other devices I never used either. Oh well. Another price hike and the closer I'm getting to not upgrading every single year.

This was the year I wanted to flop back over to Android but Samsung blew it. Literally.

We shall see in December when I'm ready to jump again.
