Um???
Why do they look like headphones my dad had back in 1978? 🤔

The question is in what these headphones could be any different from any other high-end headphones?

Most if not all headphones today still struggle to come within a few dBs of the frequency response curves that users preference research tends to demonstrate are favoured by most. Most of the usual ANC BT headphones suspects are way off the mark. Advanced electronics may help close the gap in a way that a purely passive transducer can't and Apple / Beats (as of 2020, but certainly not older models) has a pretty decent track record with acknowledging this market research.

I have yet to try spatial audio but if it is truly convincing then there's that.

Otherwise operational qualities, but here I find the leaked design very surprising. It seems the headphones won't fold inwards (like the Beats Solo Pro for example) and the headband is quite large, meaning that portability won't be exceptional compared to some BT ANC alternatives (unless Apple found a very clever way to fold the headband without a visible hinge, as some of their patents suggest). Jon's leaked images suggests that it's a large on-ear instead of an over-ear (with ear pads close in spirit to the B&W P5 it seems) - this is very surprising given Apple's stream of patents for ear detection technology, none of which seem to propose sensors designs compatible with an on-ear design as far as I know. The leaked video suggest an interesting case design. This all makes their design quite unexpected to me.

Sorry, but they can't be real, they look HORRID.
Perhaps a prototype body to do testing, and throw people who see them off the trail.

Confident anything Apple releases will look far more modern, and stylish that what's been shown here.
What makes them look horrid?

The better be Hi-fi as hell if that’s the design because the Bose 700 design looks infinitely more innovative, modern, and just plain better.

Pretty ugly in this leak but somehow some way, Apple marketing will make them look beautiful AF
Apple products are always ugly before release and awesome or people just don't care anymore after release.

I think I read stuff like this already...oh yeah, 4 years ago when the AirPods came out.
So ugly that they are on of the most sold products.

Obviously looks are subjective but what about this looks innovative?

These rumored Apple headphones look kind of like B&W.

Seems like the "real" design would be to make those outer shells look like Macbook top covers. Maybe even out of aluminum if it were light enough. That could be pretty cool looking.

I mean, find some other headphones that look like the 700s. I'm not really sure there are any. Meanwhile the rumored design can be instantly compared to another pair of headphones as you have done. The way the bars of the headphone appear to just "float" in the center of the ear cups of the 700s is extremely elegant, something which as far as I know has never been done before.

Without iOS/macOS AptX bluetooth support, these are not for hires audio nor are they high end. Period. Hires audio can only be played on Apple devices via external DACs via wired connections. There used to be a hack for AptX output on macOS but I think it has been closed.

I quite like the look, as far as I can tell from that bad picture.

However, I’m quite worried Apple will use materials that look terrible after 8 months. In fact I’d put money on it.

The on ear design of the ear piece has me having serious doubts these will offer enough isolation to offer effective ANC . If there are not alternative ear cups it will be a hard pass for me.

They paid so much for the Beats name, look, and branding. Who woulda thought they had a solution already in-house, where “AirPods” would become bigger?

they paid for the infrastructure of beats music which they changed to Apple Music and the cool factor to young adults.

Wait, what? Let's do a little analogy....

Wireless : Studio :: Pinto : Racecar

I mean, I guess eventually the sound will arrive unless you hit the rear bumper too hard. :D

Quite a few people here seem to define “good looking” as “looks like something Apple has released before”. A few months post-release you don’t see anyone complaining about how hideous an Apple product is.

This looks way too original to be fake IMO.

I think the dark ones look nice. Real nice in fact. A lot better than the majority of stuff in the market right now. I’m interested! Now let’s see what the price is.

If that really is what the headphones look like, then they look like ****! I hope that's just a prototype, and the finished product has a lot better curb appeal than that! The beats headphones look better!
I have used the Beats Solo2 Wireless since they came out, for many years and had all the issues: earcups peeling off, white top head cushion getting nasty, etc. But they lived on forever via ear cups aftermarket parts, DIY battery replacement and more after the warranty expired, had to do each thing only once along the lifetime.
They have finally died recently (only work plugged via audio cable) but I have grown allergic to non-wireless devices and was hoping for jumping on these new ones since for me I really dig the sound and quality.

But these, these look like crap... hope this is a trolling move.

Just hot glued my solo 2 cups back into place, lol.

These seem to be onear, from the renders that got released. I wonder if they have some sort of foam that mould around your ears. On ears aren't comfortable for many. But IEM's aren't comfortable for most and Apple came up with the Air Pods Pro - so they could have some amazing innovation for on ear design.

The patent mentioned the linear clamping force design - that should make them the same comfort level for any head too.

Excited to see the reveal.
