To me, this represents Apple Watch embracing (even more) its place as a smart watch, instead of being a luxury wristwatch. Flat edges feel more tech / manufactured, as they're simpler to produce. I think this looks good and makes sense for the direction of Apple Watch.

Any update on the presence of the glucose sensor?
Seeing by the sometimes imprecise nature of invasive methods like CGMs (like the Dexcom G6), I don't expect non-invasive methods to have any meaningful applicability for therapeutic decision making (such as injecting insulin on a hyperglicemia) besides just a vague suggestion on a trend.

I'm hoping a flat-top means screen protectors will stay on better. I tried two different brands of screen protectors with my current Apple Watch and they just end up peeling right up because of the curves.

I truly hate how flat it is, the Apple Watch is the only product I wish they kept the current curvy design. I feel like a flat screen and flat body wouldn't be comfortable or ergonomic for swipes or when pressing buttons (more so than the iPhone)
Yeah flat design is a “Looks good. Feels terrible.” Moto for me.

I still love the iPhone 3G for ergonomics. And I hated the iPhone 4 feel. But iPhone 4 defiantly wins hands down on looks.

and it was the same with the X and 12.

A bit skeptical of this design direction. The corners may be more susceptible to damage if I nick my watch against a wall or some tough object. Been with the steel versions and they are quite durable for these scenarios. The current design is I think is a more sound design for durability and comfort on the wrist.
Exactly. The current rounded design acts like a bumper. I can see a lot of nicks and dings in my furniture and doors in the near future, and/or cracked watch face.

No 46mm option 😕
Word is they’re going straight to 75mm. 😉

My AppleWatch 3 has severe me well for the last 4 years. Going to be a tough decision to keep it, get a series 7, or move on to something like a Citizen smart watch. I know AndroidWear is hot garbage compared to AppleWatchOS, but Apple and all their recent privacy intrusion/censorship stuff is starting to wear on me (no pun intended).

I'm glad that the earlier rumours are looking more likely to be true. I do like this new flat design and the extra screen area without increasing the actual case size will be great.

The older rumours were saying the new design would be a bit thicker than the current design although "not noticeably so" (or words to that effect) whereas this rumour is saying 1.7mm thinner so that is also a nice surprise if true - just as long as battery life is at least maintained if it is getting thinner.

My only disappointment with these new renders vs the ones from the earlier rumours is that in the earlier renders the slots where the watch strap connects to the body seemed to be higher up (closer to the watch face) whereas in these renders the slots seem to be in much the same place as they are on the series 6, i.e. closer to the sensor/wrist side of the watch. I find that a bit of a shame because having the attachment point higher up does fool the eye a bit and can make a watch look thinner on the wrist than it actually is. That optical illusion coupled with a genuinely thinner watch could have turned what I view as a somewhat overly-thick series 6 look into something that looked really quite sleek whereas I think the 1.7mm reduction on its own will only turn it from overly-thick to still-a-bit-too-thick but whatever, at least it would be progress in the right direction (in my opinion).

On balance I'm excited about this redesign if indeed these rumours turn out to be accurate.

Can’t wait for the update. Having a flat screen should help significantly reduce the scratches / wear that I see on my series 5 screen. Overall, the squared edge design will look both more modern and have classic watch vibes, which I think will be a huge improvement over the current form factor.

Neat, might be finally time to replace my Series 4, but we’ll see.

The Apple Watch is the lone product in apple’s lineup that makes sense to be thinner as time progresses.

Rumor is there will be an active or rugged model.

That would really be cool - I have lovely automatic watches that I wear to the office etc. and my Apple Watch is my go-to weekend/sports watch - Would love it to be even more sporty!

I dig it. The iPhone 4 and current iPhone design has always been my preferred design, and nice that it’s coming to the watch as well. Have a Series 4 now, so likely I’ll replace it with this.

And then in 4-5 years we’ll be ready to embrace the more rounded design again.

a Watch this thick with flat sides will look bulky as hell. Nice design for a much thinner watch
They will figure it out - Instead of making it thinner - keep the current thickness and make it last a bit longer on the battery...

While I'm OK with flat edges on top, from a comfort perspective I really don't think I'd like that on the bottom, i.e. against my wrist.
I have agree, but on a positive note, I think the heart rate sensor will remain the same, which means it will indeed be round against your wrist. (As seen on pictures)

On another note, the crown looks harder to use in Series 7.

I have said since the first version of Apple Watch "Next one will be good enough", and I still haven't pulled the trigger. Maybe this one will finally convince me that it's worth getting one?
