I don’t get it why they should be able to reduce the size of the notch on the 5.4, 6.1 and 6.7” and keep it big on the 5.8 and 6.5”. Shouldn’t the ratio of a new smaller notch be the same on all 5 models?
No the 5.8 and 6.5 won’t be changed as it’s last year models. In fact they will be discontinuedI don’t get it why they should be able to reduce the size of the notch on the 5.4, 6.1 and 6.7” and keep it big on the 5.8 and 6.5”. Shouldn’t the ratio of a new smaller notch be the same on all 5 models?
I'll be getting an iPhone 12 Pro regardless. Glad I held onto my 7 Plus for almost 4 years. It'll be a great upgrade!
Whilst I prefer the iPhone overall and face ID, I won't deny that from the front the S10 series and above look better than the current iPhone design.I wouldn’t feel bad for apple either. They are selling far more phones with this notch than android wiry the punch hole so clearly people aren’t bothered enough to not buy the phone
Face ID works very well and is the most method of unlocking that also can use for bank/payment methods as well.
Let’s face it until under the display cameras exist it’s all the same to me. Notch or punch hole.
Slimmer bezels are always welcome so if it’s true and it happens on the 12 pro that’s fine with me as it’s more screen in the same body.
I don’t think the difference in style from Samsung flagships are much better than apples new phones. Me personally iPhone 12 design with flat screen looks far better than curved
I'm a nurse so I have to wear a mask all day long at work. Face ID is a PITA for me at the moment. I bought an OG iPhone SE which still has an finger print sensor so that helps.I don't know about your current situation, but most people still live their lives without masks most of their time. I mean, unless you work as a cashier, cleaner, construction worker, etc who needs to be outside to work, you don't normally wear masks when working. If I'm supposed to work with mask on all the time, I'd just keep my phone unlocked and get insurance from my carrier to replace the phone if lost.
I work at home these days, and still prefer Face ID. Yes, it's inconvenient when I go shopping at Costco or Krogers or have to go to lab wearing a mask, but that's just a few hours a week.
I won't argue with the design point. Each person has a preference. I think the single punch hole looks OK, but the notch isn't too bad either. Both options are compromises. I just prefer Face ID to Touch ID.
I don’t think you can compare the pixel 3 notch to the notch on the iPhone. The pixel 3 notch was monstrosity.I'm a Pixel user, and currently have the Pixel 4 XL, with Google's version of FaceID and forehead bezel at the top. My previous phone was the Pixel 3 XL, with the bathtub size notch, which everyone said fades away and your brain doesn't even notice after awhile.
You know what, between the two? The 3 XL notch was always noticeable and ugly as heck, and the year I had the phone, I always saw it, and it didn't fade away. Now my 4 XL, yeah at first the big forehead looked sort of outdated and a huge bezel doesn't seem modern. But using it day in, day out, I love having a straight display across the top and no notch, and the large forehead bezel, doesn't bother me in the least nowadays , I am happy to have no notch anymore. Apple could easily do the same, put a little forehead bezel on top for FaceID, and but keep the side bezels and bottom bezel to a minimum slim bezel, and it would look fine, and be better overall.
Xiaomi.I wouldn’t mind a smaller notch combined with an inscreen TouchID system (I know that’s not gonna happen). Both systems have their advantages and both are convenient at certain situations.
Yeah, but I’m too invested in the walled garden of Apple...I really like what OnePlus is doing, but in the end it comes down to all the ecosystem advantages I have with all my devices connected and syncing seamlessly. Also I don’t want to do without my Apple Watch.Xiaomi.
I dont know. Apple is supposed to be convincing people to give them money and isnt making a great case from the totality of the rumors- the different sources in agreement that is
If you have an older phone, or XR/11, then yes its a huge upgrade to get OLED on the mid-range models.
But the "Pro" purchasers are mainly the tech nerds. If all you are offering is square sides (which most hide in a case), 5g (which is still non-existent in most places to even use), better camera yearly bump, and the usual yearly faster chip which I have never found wanting more in the A13, that's a tough sell. If the notch isnt getting smaller, no 120hz, and no change in battery what is being offered for another $999/1099+?
And WHO keeps asking for thinner phones? I get the A14 may be more power efficient but why not, you know, keep the 3969mah battery and ADD battery life? Why shrink the battery to get the same usage time; why is the same the standard? I just dont get it.
I see no compelling reason to upgrade this year after upgrading almost every year I can remember (maybe skipped the 5S and other "S" models). I have no use for a better camera not to use, 5g that wont be big for years still, and a processor bump that really isnt needed when you are already so fast and ahead of the pack.
Let's be real. Put a new Galaxy/Note next to an iPhone, toss out iOS vs Android and just talk looks and visual look of the hardware (not chips etc), and hardware-wise it gets destroyed. The Samsungs look like they're from 2020+ and iPhone still looks like 2017 just from appearances; the same iPhone X with very small visual tweaks. Not saying the iPhone isnt good hardware or isnt elegant in its own right, but that futuristic vibe pushing it into the future just isnt there with Apple. It feels like resting on laurels right now.
I don’t get it why they should be able to reduce the size of the notch on the 5.4, 6.1 and 6.7” and keep it big on the 5.8 and 6.5”. Shouldn’t the ratio of a new smaller notch be the same on all 5 models?
The Bezels are *Symmetrical Top, Bottom, Left, & Right. *No Other phone manufacturer has managed to achieve this, aside from Beautiful Apple. The notch is a stop-gap to truly-all-screen, and is closer to that Vision Than *Asymmetrical *Forehead & *Chin。Nobody has given a meaningful answer to why we even need the notch. Just give the phone a small forehead, put all relevant sensors in there and keep the screen an unbroken rounded rectangle. It’s got to be easier to manufacture, simplifies the software, and will enable more future sensors in that space.
