Looks nice. I like having touch ID as an option especially on the iPad. I don't always have it close to my face like I do the iPhone and sometimes have to purposely move my face closer to unlock it.

They pretty much have to release the new iPad Pro before they could release this. So both will come the same time I assume. Then this iPad-Pro-like iPad Air can exist. The iPad Pro must be getting some amazing screen technology. Also, other than mini LED, what does the iPad Pro really get to differentiate it? Maybe the iPad Air gets an A13, and the iPad Pro gets an A1X? That would be bad ass.

And I thought all along I would prefer the Touch ID in the power button instead of under screen. And I would prefer that over FaceID on this year’s iPhone as well. I would gladly lose the ugly disgusting notch for any other method be it a hole punch, an under screen TouchID, or this a power butting TouchID.

I have a 1TB iPad Pro from 2018. It would take something pretty amazing for me to want to update it. It cost a fortune for what it is and how I use it. Especially with that dang Magic Keyboard.

Nice, will be interesting to see what features distinguish the iPad Pro from this model -

  • Face ID
  • Camera
  • Pencil 2 compatibility
  • Screen size
  • Processor(?)

What else?
I doubt it won't get Pencil 2 compatibility. Don't forget that it's an expensive accessory that Apple wants you to buy. I guess the main difference will be size and cameras (including Face ID).

I’m wondering if users of 11” 2018 iPad Pro, like myself, should sell our device before this Air takes value away from it. I mean if we can get this 4th gen Air at 500 bucks, new, people’s not gonna pay much for a used 2018 iPad Pro...

If the new iPad Pro was near, I’d gladly sell this iPad Pro before it loses even more value.

By the way this leak is solid, from what I can see you can attach a smart keyboard folio to it. This device is great for people who don’t want to spend so much on an iPad Pro. Great update Apple!

Not too sure about TouchID on the power button. The button would need to be stiffer to press, or using touchID will result in a lot of power-offs/sleeps.

However, if this has pro-motion and quad speakers, it could replace my 10.5" pro.

Good news, as I don’t want a 2nd iPad Pro update this year. Next year iPP with miniled and A14X. This fall this Air4 which is like a cheaper iPP 11” 2020. I wonder what CPU Air4 will have. A14 non X/Z? Air4 can get 4GB RAM too.
I’m afraid it will be a regular A13.
Hoping for an A14, but Apple wouldn’t launch their flagship SoC on a budget device before they announce the iPhone 12.

do iPads ship with a manual that looks like that?

They actually do.

I like it but I am already using an old iPad Air 2 (still runs perfect!) in the bed room and an iPad Pro 10.5 in the living room. I just can't justify getting another one even though I would LOVE to have one without a home button and more focus on the screen itself. #firstworldproblem

Why do we need touch id again? We have face id? Why are we going back?
Seems wasteful.

TouchID on the side button next to FaceID as a 2nd option would be GREAT for the iPhone too. Especially in times like this, when everyone is out and about with a mask. Best time for this in my opinion

If this rumor is true, the next iPad Air will be harder to wake up, unlock & get to the home screen than the current one...

With iPad Air 3 (or any other current iOS device with touchID), pressing the home button wakes up the iPad, unlocks it and takes you to the home screen. All in one action (pressing the home button).

With this new iPad Air, you would need to wake up / unlock the device first by pressing / resting your finger on the power button and then swipe up to get to the home screen. That's two distinct actions there.

Apple making usability worse in newer products of the same category makes no sense. I hope this rumor is wrong.

My 8y old MacBook Air just died so having the whole iPad Air/Pro vs MacBook Air debate. If this didn’t support promotion/120hz display do people think that’s a deal breaker? Is the difference that noticeable? Reviews on the Samsung s7 tab are pretty superlative on how good that screen is with oled and 120hz support.

If this rumor holds true, it might be time for me to consider moving back from the iPad Pro to the iPad Air lineup next year. I love my iPad Pro but honestly it’s way more powerful (and expensive) than what I need.

Logically: You don’t need Promotion / Emotionally: I love my Pro-motion.

It will have the A13, not A14 or any variant thereof. DRAM will be 4GB, as iPad Pro is now sporting good 6GB across all capacities.
