Alleged iPad Mini 5 Case Leaks

I think I’d be pretty interested in this iPad. I use my iPad purely for consumption and games so I am not paying $800 for an iPad Pro. The iPad 6 is kinda a side-grade from my Air 2 (thicker, heavier, non-laminated screen but better SoC) so it would be nice to have another option.

I’ll buy two, please, maxed out. Love my 4, do a ton of work on it, can’t go without one. Plus, small enough for easy travel.

Exactly. It’s the perfect compliment to my work laptop especially for travel on planes. Can get a lot of tasks done on a flight where the laptop is just slightly to awkward. I really have no issues with the iPad mini 4, but would welcome hardware upgrades when they come.

It makes sense that Apple would add a feature set that would bring its smallest tablet in line with the sixth-generation iPad at the very least, however, and it could also adopt a few features from the iPad Pro. We can expect an upgraded processor and a lower-cost display panel, according to reliable Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.

Hopefully they focus on making it great, rather than cheap. While some are always going to buy the cheapest thing in the lineup, it has been a mistake to assume the small device in the lineup should be the 'budget' one. Same for the iPhone SE.

I own an SE and we have 2 iPad minis in the house... all of which won't ever get refreshed if Apple doesn't release new improved versions. It isn't about the cost, but the form-factor. I don't want an iPhone XR, even if it were cheaper than my SE. My family members wouldn't want an 10"+ iPad Pro, even if it were cheaper than the current 6th-gen iPad. They specifically want the 'mini' size form factor for their tablet.

Finally more iPad mini rumors. Apple has delayed refreshing the mini 4 longer than any iOS device before. (I believe it’s tied now with the iPod touch since they were released around the same time.) I think Apple has never loved the mini and would rather not make it, but the demand is too substantial to ignore. They’ve been reluctant to update it and now they’ve probably found the limit to how old of an iOS device they can support and/or people are willing to buy, and they’ve finally caved. Looking forward to the spring, but setting low expectations. CPU bump, maybe ram bump and pencil and quad speakers. Hopefully Touch ID 2. Probably worse screen and thicker and heavier.

It will be neither great nor cheap, of that you can be certain.

It doesn't look like the flat edges of an iPad pro - so would they look more rounded like an XS/XR? old school iPad mini?

Target today is back up to $399 from the day after Christmas $249 deal on mini 4 128GB. When I see it go back up I wish I had gotten one. When they go on sale I say better wait to see what/if the mini 5 has.

What is the exact keyboard in the background? (it seems like a Logitech keyboard)

Apple is worried about making the iPad mini too good. It is the only product that can cannibalize sales of iPhones, iPads, MacBooks, even apple watches. An iPad Pro mini could be used as a true all in one device, its bad for the bottom line.

I agree. I think it would be my perfect device if they make it work with the apple watch but you still need an iphone for the watch...

Right, but is there any reason the watch needs the phone? Is there anything the phone offers that the iPad can’t, assuming you have a cellular capable watch?

I’m surprised the amount of people that think the iPad mini would sell like hot cakes. The market has moved towards bigger screens and the fact that apple hasn’t updated the mini points to the fact it wasn’t selling well in the first place. Same for the SE.

It sounds very much like typical macrumours “well I want it so clearly everyone else in the world must too right!?”

Conversely, you make it seem as if since you don’t want it, no one else possibly could.

For some reason, you HAVE to have the phone to be powered on even with a LTE watch, in order to make phone calls. That is why I did not opt in for the LTE watch. I wish the iPad mini can be fully used as a phone and can work with the watch. It is possible but Apple did not design / plan it this way...I don't know how difficult it will be to implement this.
