A 4.7'' smartphone is not new, nor is it interesting. Nor is a 5.5'' smartphone. Buying a headphones company isn't that fascinating, and Tim Cook/Eddie Cue/Whoever spouting off about 'amazing products that are coming' is utterly tiresome to hear for the 3rd year in a row.

Wow, stunning, a piece of metal covered in green plastic...

Come on MacRumors, you can do a lot better then that surely? You exposed the complete ipod Nano 3rd gen press shots way before it's release, a video of a guy showing the entire casing of the iPhone 5, and now this.....?

Yes, I'm sure MacRumors has a complete working phone but they're just holding it back for fun.

To the people complaining about the design; not saying you have to like it, but it will probably grow on you. If you don't remember/weren't here, the 5 got a TON of flack from most people at the beginning. "No way Apple releases a phone with glass strips on the back!!" Now I see no complaints about the design and only positive things.

The band things looks weird now, but mostly because it looks different than the last one. Like it's not "filled in" or something. It will look normal soon enough.

A 4.7" phone most definitely is new and interesting to millions of iPhone users like me who would like a slightly bigger display. A 5.5" display is of course very interesting to those millions of iPhone users who want a display of that size. What is there to complain about?

Apple have clearly purchased Beats for a reason. It's far too early to come to any conclusions about what this deal may mean.

So let me ask this, what do you want?

It's not the iPod touch because the iPod touch does not have a cellular antenna, which is why the iPhone has slits at both the top and the bottom.

Form Follows Frivolity

It is really a better idea to have the antennas as part of the case? This concept continues to force the design of the iPhone. I think it is a shame.

It sounds like you have some irrational downer on everything Apple.

If that's the case, why do you bother posting stuff like that, on a site filled with Apple fans, discussing the latest bits of kit?

The phone size increases are purely reactionary to Android handsets being of similar size. If Android phones were all still 4'', they wouldn't be doing this.

Beats headphones clearly have a low-cost and very high margin, and also the same kind of style/fashion cache that Apple products enjoy. Apple has an opportunity to own that and take the revenue, along with their streaming service. That's possibly all the intention is there.

What do I want? I'd really like Tim Cook et al to stop lying about 'amazing products that are coming'. If all Apple has left is to churn out catch-up revisions to the iPhone and spec bumps for Macs etc then fine, no problem with that, just stop pretending otherwise.

The screen size increase is due to market & customer demands. Everyone thought 3.5" was more than enough 4 years ago, but Android manufacturers proved that phones can still be compact and be far more functional with a larger display. With iTunes Movies, gaming & the popularity of tablets, the display size increase was inevitable.

And amazing products are coming. If you already own a recent Mac, iPhone or iPad then these products are going to be less interesting to you as you already own them. But for new customers or people looking to upgrade from hardware that's years old they will of course be "exciting and interesting". I upgrade my iPhone every year and I will continue to do this as long as Apple continues to improve it. However, there's very little reason to upgrade my iPad each year as I only use it to consume web content and play games. That doesn't mean I won't be interested in this years iPad refresh because I will be.

People need to stop expecting Apple to reinvent the wheel each year. People also need to realise that the true innovation this year will be software and not hardware.

Nope

Don't believe it. No way they would put the double flash on the 5s and not on the 6. That bezel is not big enough for the dual flash.

So does it look to anybody else like the apple logo will light up in this new iphone? that would be awesome :)

The only thing I don't like are the antenna breaks. Other than that, I love the new design.

Woah ... I've never had issues with Apple designs but if this is actually real then that is pretty horrible. That design is very un-Apple like. I don't see them doing such thick bands.

I had the same thought before the iPhone 4 release: Asymmetrically spaced black plastic lines across the edge of the device — no way those leaks could have been real.

This design is even uglier, and chances are it is what the new iPhone will look like. I'll finally start using a case I guess. Fortunately it is only the back that's ugly. The front will be gorgeous at ever and the round edges will give it a better feel in the hand.

Antenna breaks have to actually be breaks, so that can't be right.

Ok, then it's something between a real break und no break. Look at this photo

Please make the logo glow *crosses fingers*

imagine those cuts on the back glow in the dark or illuminates with a bluish light like torn legacy :p it would look nice on the black version of the iPhone :p

So you guys are anti-battery life for illuminated logo that really serves no useful purpose? Would it be cool? I guess. But I'd personally rather have the battery life and not be as cool.

Besides stock battery life is such that a fair amount of people buy a battery case to add some time. For them, the logo would be glowing inside a case where it might not even be visible. Same with shockproof cases too.

The antenna breaks are extraordinarily ugly. Doubtful Apple would release such an unattractive design. If they do, it's quite the misstep.

I disagree. Apple has spun itself as "magical" innovators. And they seem past due for "reinventing the wheel". Iterations of old "next big things" are not as inspiring as the implications of "new categories".

2001: iPod
2007: iPhone (6 years later)
2010: iPad (3 years later)
2012: <new wheel needed> (2-3 years later)
2014: <another new wheel> (1-2 years later)

It's mid-2014, and many seem to feel about 1-2 "new wheels" are missing. A rectangle of sapphire or a bigger screen iteration of something we already have can be appealing but are not as inspiring as a genuine "new wheel".

Is it unfair to expect an iPod-iPhone-iPad impact product at an accelerating pace of launch? Probably. But Apple has positioned themselves as a kind of big innovation factory. As such "we" expect magical wow to show up regularly. It's been a long time since the last "next big thing" and the crew is getting antsy.
