I remember a lot of people thinking "XS Max" was stupid, that no way could that be the real name, surely they wouldn't go with that...and then it happened. I won't be surprised if this design ends up being used.

iPhone 6 was uglier due to the bands on the back they rearranged in iPhone 7.
I remember people thinking it wasn't the real design, but it was indeed. I'm not sure this is the final design for iPhone 11 or whatever they call it, but I wouldn't be surprised if they shipped a squared camera module

I like the staggered triple lens, but the big square protrusion seems stupid. It’s no longer a camera bump. The cameras all sit flush within that big square, but the big square is a ****ing tumor on the corner of the phone. At this point, just give us a bigger battery and a flat phone. Win-win.

The phone isn’t as thin as they like to pretend. The back of the phone can be a mountainous range of different thicknesses with a razor blade corner and Apple would market it as being so thin it will literally cut you, but in practice we all know the phone’s thickness should be gauged by the thickest part of the phone.

I don't understand why, even at the iPhone's thickness, the hump has to be so big on current models. The Galaxy S10 line is almost exactly the same thickness, provide equivalent photo quality, and have a hump that is much smaller (and centered). And they still manage to fit in larger batteries, etc.

I think a lot of the space that ends up wasted inside an iPhone, which forces "less" stuff to be packed in over Samsung is due to the industrial design ethos that Apple has. If you open up Apple products, the inside tends to be designed around "form over function" a lot of the time. The inside must "look" as good as the outside.

there's something to be said for this attention to detail. But it does end up IMHO using more space overall thus providing less internal space overall for the actual electronics.

Take a look at the photos of the insides from the S10 versus the iPhone Xs. the S10 makes no attempt to "look good" on the inside. instead opting for the highest densities of electronics possible. The same does not appear to be true for Apple.

this is a big difference and why I believe Apple isn't able to today pack nearly as much into their phones as the competition.

When you don't care about how something looks on the inside, you can afford more jumbles of wires and connectivity. and afford to have space for a headphone jack ;)

It's not easy to figure out how to design smartphone with multiple camera lenses. Samsungs lenses centered in the back aren't that "pretty" either.
Compared to the layout on the renders for the new iPhone the s10 setup looks incredible. Just admit it looks atrocious. It's really ok to be critical when warranted.

You are obviously not fair at all. Thta's the main issue and I bet you won't admit it.

I admit that I was a bit exaggerated, but it was on purpose. Because bottom line: the Pixel 3's camera takes overall better photos than any other camera and just has one lens. That what I believe in. Won't deny that the P30 takes insane zoomed and night photos, but that alone doesn't make it the best camera out there.
