I am much more worried about why the XS successor won't be getting it.

I was hoping Apple will continue Simplified their line up so we wont end up with Plus / Max getting some extra features.

Next XS get Triple Camera
Next XR get Double Camera
Next iPhone Single Camera, Touch ID.

Not to mention it is Fugly.

I'm not normally one to complain about the shape and size of camera bumps, but that is seriously hideous.
This is how I know the leaks are real. I remember when the iPhone 6 leaked and everyone gasped at how ugly the antenna lines were and said apple would never do that. Then...they did that.

So my rule of thumb is if commenters early on comment how ugly it is, it’s probably real. And they’ll probably get used to it when it comes out

I hope its just some demo phone for camera tech evaluation or some uber version that no one is going to buy.

looks so bad..surely in the middle would make more sense

Middle Camera Placement comes in way when you talk on the phone ( thats what a few people like me do these days:))
and you hold the phone with the pointer finger + maybe the middle and ring finger too, resting on the back of the phone. My Samsungs' would end up with blurred lenses all the time.

At this point, might as well cover the whole back with cameras...

Eventually the phone will lay flat again. :)
Haha, this was my exact thought. The final step is then to make even more cameras pop out from all sides, a bit like the Vivo phone.

Now it is the equivalent of a blemish on someone's face. You just wish it wasn't there.

Jesus, I'm more than likely done with Apple. I just can't stay loyal anymore. Airpod 2 is a joke. I was hoping for secure fit in ear buds. Nope, forget a new form factor, that most likely would have cut into the profits. The exact same device and the wireless charging case is optional. I'm just disgusted with this company and it's greed. I decided to pick up a used Galaxy S7 Edge for next to nothing. I'm interested in the S10e, but didn't want to dish out top dollar for a my first try at a Samsung phone. I'm now left wanting the S10+ or possibly the upcoming Note 10. This 3 yr old S7 Edge has been nothing but amazing. No lag or slow downs, and battery life has easily lasted a day. No burn-in on the display. All the stuff I was warned of regarding Samsung Galaxy phones don't hold water. Once again, this is a 3 yr old phone, with the original battery. It's running like a champ. Security is something I value, and secure folder is my goto now. Don't think I want to give it up.

If this is what this year’s offering will look like... it will be a hard pass for me. It’s looking like the iPhone X will remain my cell phone for yet another year. Apple’s designs are getting to be... undesirable to me.

Good God that design is fugly!!!

Not a big stretch to predict sales of the Xs Plus (which will have this) will decline unless the back of the phone is flush with these lenses so there isn't a camera bump - ahhhh, battery life would be so nice.

Will push more customers to the Xr and to a lesser extent the Xs - neither of which supposedly will have this.

I wish I could feel more invested in the rumors one way or another but I’m one of those who can’t look at the current OLED displays without getting a migraine. Apple is aware their screens have that effect on some of their customers. I wonder if they’re fixing that for this year.

At any rate I look at this and feel pretty much “Not my circus, not my monkeys.” But as a disinterested observer I know from the experiences I have with my current phones that that arrangement is challenging in terms of keeping one’s fingers from intruding into the picture as you try to hold the phone steady for a shot.

Hardly anybody talks about the issue of pulse-width modulation that today is used in pretty much all OLED smarthpone displays. I hear you brother - this clearly sucks ass.

I'd rather have a perfectly good LCD display in a smartphone with a proper subpixel arrangement and more than adequate black levels than current PWM OLED implementation. I'd rather have a 120 Hz display in iPhone, rather than current PWM OLEDs. Today the best screen on any Apple product in my book is used on 12" iPad Pro (120 Hz, True Tone, IPS panel, adequate resolution). I want to have same tech on iPhone, but not what is pushed on iPhone X/XS.

Here is a nice little screen flickering test (in Russian) on iPhone 8 / XS Max / Note 9 / Mate 20 Pro:
- iPhone 8 is a clear winner here...

Yes, I am aware of the "Reduce White Point FIX" on OLED iPhones to reduce this problem but... it is not a 100% solution, but rather a workaround that makes things somewhat better.

Push for wireless headphones, almost max allowed SAR levels on pretty much all models and now these inferior PWM OLEDs on iPhones makes me cringe when I hear Tim Cook and others speaking about how much Apple cares about our health.

Sad to see that there is hardly any choice left for future upgrades. Sh***y products all over the place.

I am impartial as it really makes no difference to me. I am sure it will look better with the Apple polish. Who cares though, to be honest.

This is getting a bit ridiculous. For instance, take the Huawei Mate 30Pro with 4 cameras. The phone basically takes really impressive low light shots and ridiculous zoomed photos but for the rest it is basically destroyed by any other phone (Pixel, iPhone, Samsung). It's miles behind in terms of HDR, bokeh effect, and video dynamic range. It doesn't even take 4K 60fps. In terms of slow motion the Samsung destroys the Mate.
You're grossly exaggerating.

Forget about putting finger print readers under the display, put the cameras behind the glass back. This looks like trash.

Weird, apple's mantra was always about aesthetics as much as function.
Some people even criticise it for being form over function.

This is just form over function gone wrong.

Make it 2mm thicker and there's no protrusion

Yeah I agree. Make the whole thing as thick as the camera bump and put more batteries in.

Apple doesn’t know how to design anymore. I’d rather take a crappier SINGLE lens camera with a FLAT housing than a better camera with 19 lenses and a pimple only nerds get. Once again, Apple picks form over function.

But but but but—NO! Figure it out. TrueDepth camera? NO! Figure it out. Gosh. How hard is it to have no notch and a flat camera housing? Apple has baby engineers. I know what good design is. Trust me. Apple doesn’t know design anymore.
