OS X update has never effected positively older hardware.
Windows 7 brought back to life many old PCs with core2duo or even Pentium 4. It was optimized specifcally to allow older hardware to run the OS smoother and take advantage of OS accelaration. Even though OS X Mavericks still runs smooth on older hardware certain optimization in the new OS X would be welcome. I have never seen a single review of OS X on older hardware that clearly states that the computer runs faster with the new OS. Noramlly there is no clear boosts in speed and there is nothing better to see your old hardware run faster under newly released OS X.
Weird, my old and rusty 2008 MBP works great in Mavericks, so does my 2010 iMac, never before have i kept my computers for so long because i don't feel the need to upgrade to a newer one.I have an old MBP, that used to run a bit slow, now is virtually useless with Mavericks, despite the fact I've gained nothing but Finder tabs and supposedly better memory management. Face it guys, they saw the 2 year upgrade cycle of phones, and wanted to apply it to more expensive hardware.
+1 on the Alfred.app thing. I've used and loved that app for years. Typical for Apple to copy it because it's just a well designed system, but still kind of a shame if they would go out of business.
Remember Steve Jobs' quote on the TV business - "Crap Turnover". Basically he, and by extension Apple, have nothing but contempt for the idea of buying a device and keeping it.
Otherwise it should be obvious to anyone. I've upgraded 6 or 7 Apple devices this year. The degradation in performance of each of them is nothing but suspicious. What does iOS7 do that iOS6 didn't? Nothing, yet an iPhone will run at half the speed. Why have the dock looking like a version of Windows .???? deYikes! Come on' Apple, you can do better than that.
Thanks Mangomind!
Really wanted to see these. Looking forward to 10.10.
That's funny... And not surprising. People hate change.

How exactly does it look like Windows? Windows doesn't even have a dock... I swear some of you have the strangest complaints.
OS X update has never effected positively older hardware.
I totally believe this. My iPhones used to slow down to the point where it was so frustrating, I was almost forced to upgrade (I remember when messages would take up to 30 seconds to open on my 3GS). But microchips don't slow down with age, so it was clearly each update that did it.
My 1st gen Apple TV has never been updated (except perhaps in the first few months) and it still works absolutely fine.
So you're telling me that all the Macs that were shipped with Lion weren't positively affected by ML and Mavericks? Interesting opinion you got there.
Actually there are a lot of people with even older machines who experienced that Mavericks ran better than Snow Leopard.
That hardware was made to run Windows XP. Windows Vista was a mistake and Windows 7 is not faster than XP on a Pentium 4.

@jlgolson I'm saying I received them a few months ago with the sketchiest backstory I've ever heard. (https://twitter.com/markgurman/status/473346867476963329)
Windows 7 has a dock. Most people still use windows 7.

The older harware becomes slower and slower with every major new OS X just like the iPhone 4 feels so much slower with iOS 7 that it was with iOS 6.
Did a lot of people reject the OS X Leopard UI changes at the time? I wasn't here then..
Seems likeare on the ball, the Keynote app is already on my Apple TV her in the UK
it doesn't usually show up until about an hour or so before the keynote.
If that'd be the case, they wouldn't give free updates to older hardware. They wouldn't even give paid updates to older hardware. They would give no updates whatsoever and thereby forcing you to upgrade for new features. But they do the exact opposite of what they are accused here. Prolonging the life of hardware and thereby retroactively increasing its value to the customer.Remember Steve Jobs' quote on the TV business - "Crap Turnover". Basically he, and by extension Apple, have nothing but contempt for the idea of buying a device and keeping it.
With what? You're obviously not following the MacRumors Buyer's Guide. We only had a minor MacBook Air refresh this year so far. There was nothing to upgrade to.I've upgraded 6 or 7 Apple devices this year.
Not every iPhone. Only those made very early in the smartphone revolution. These type of devices are still fairly new and increasing speed at an tremendous rate. An iPhone with an A6 or A7 chip will not make any performance difference between iOS 6 and 7. But older iPhones are very old in hardware years. The degradation in performance of each of them is nothing but suspicious. What does iOS7 do that iOS6 didn't? Nothing, yet an iPhone will run at half the speed.
Must be a problem of some app you have running in the background, because no one else has problems with Mavericks on older MacBook Pros.I have an old MBP, that used to run a bit slow, now is virtually useless with Mavericks, despite the fact I've gained nothing but Finder tabs and supposedly better memory management.
If you think its all a scheme, than why do you upgrade and why don't you downgrade to what version you liked better?Face it guys, they saw the 2 year upgrade cycle of phones, and wanted to apply it to more expensive hardware.
