What about the iPad? That has a massive battery!

Plus it would make thunderbolt more relevant + free up USB space.

It is too soon to be swapping to TB right now. If Apple really wants to piss off the customers that don't feel the need to buy new tech once or twice a year then sure, do it. Otherwise, they need to sit tight with USB for now.

What would be the need? The magsafe is designed to stop a laptop going flying if someone trips over the relatively long cable. If the iPhone had that it would still go flying off the desk regardless with it being such a light device.

The benefit (for me at least) would be getting rid of a deep socket which fills with fluff/dust/grit which damage the connectors or prevent the plug from fitting correctly.

Finally a cable that can be inserted either way. None of this anymore....

Did it occur to you that the port was installed flimsily? Last I checked, this doesn't happen in Android phones. My WebOS still is still running strong.

USB has 4 pins. Power ground data in data out. Dock connector has 30 pins with features both android and web os don't have which is why iPod/iPhone have the largest accessory market on the planet.

If you've used any other device aside from an iToy you'd know that having that many pins is pretty pointless for most every day use aside from display, and even then, it'd only really be useful for professionals.

Its unnecessarily big. And with USB 3, Apple agrees. Stop trying to defend legacy. Unless you want Apple to put a floppy drive in your air.

Yes which is the reason for the redesign. Get rid of the legacy iPod photo and firewire pins but retain the pins that matter. Which is why we are getting a new dock connector instead of just going straight usb.

Looks good and legit. Still wished they would have gone with standard micro USB though.

That's it....these are all controlled leaks from Apple. On the 12, we are going to see something spectacular...I'm hoping anyways.

All these leaks are just ridiculous

Adapters are inevitable but god...... integrated audio cables in cars are so yesterday.
USB has been available in cars for years now.

Looks like metal to me.

BMW, for example, offers cradles / cables for integration with BMW apps. You still want to be able to charge your phone, no? I personally use Bluetooth for calls in the car and seldom charge my iPhone in there, but I'm sure many people do and I could imagine them being very upset if their 2013 car suddenly can't handle this simple task anymore, because Apple changed the dock connector. Cradles will be rendered useless with a new form factor anyways, in most cases, and people usually don't buy cars for the compatibility with their phones, so it's not such a big deal, but an annoyance.

Like I said, integrated cables were a mistake.
BMW could have provided a USB port rather than integrated cables.
Cables break. Cables can become outdated (as we're now seeing).
But a USB port is standard and future-proof (for the immediate future anyway) and would still allow for all of the app integration and charging capabilities.
No matter the device or the dock connector, the other end of the docking cable is going to remain USB for years to come.

Is the current connector the only one that the iphones always had and is the ipad the only other device that uses it, too?

Been too long since last worth while upgrade

:apple: After the disappointment of the iPhone 4s I can't wait for the new iPhone 5 to be released I have waited more than two years for this moment and the new charging connector don't bother me one bit change is a good thing in my book:apple:

BMW uses USB ports for integration, not "integrated cables", I think you misread my post. I guess with a new dock connector they might just have to come up with a new y-cable actually, didn't think about that before.

P.S.: I have never seen or even heard of "integrated cables", which car model ever had that? I might be wrong, but I think those cables aren't "yesteryear" as you said, I believe/hope they never existed. But I'm sure you can tell me what you had in mind.

MicroUSB is just that... USB... nothing else. Apple's connectors make way more than just USB available to docks/accessories.

As a side note, Mophie is a horrible company. I (as an external consultant) developed one of their enterprise accessories, and they screwed my company over.
Bad company, and bad (internal) engineers.

Thats why microusb can also support MHL and other things. Many phones have more than just usb functionality in their microusb ports.
