Roll with it!

As a photographer I am used to buying all sorts of products from different brands, I just unbox and plug without bitching about the cables compatibility, it is a bonus to have stuff using the same connectors yes but if they don't you just roll with it.

I live in Dubai and travel worldwide every week so even for the iPhone/iPad/MagSafe connector I am used to carrying all the different "plugs", I can plug a European one on a UK one with the help of any sharp object.

I have no problem whatsoever adapting to a new smaller form of a cable, I just got delivery of a Retina MacBook Pro for which I bought a Thunderbolt external storage which needed a separately sold TB cable and while at the Apple reseller store I also bought a MagSafe 2 adaptor, NO BIG DEAL.

A big deal was not being able to buy a TB display for my late 2008 MacBook Pro.

Life is too short to bitch about little progress in life.

really? worst connector design in history? That connector is also partly responsible for the biggest 3rd party accessory market on the planet. its sturdy and atleast for me indestructible. Everyone says "micro usb micro usb micro usb!" micro usb is GARBAGE. between me and my gf weve had like 5 microusb ports break on our mophie juicepacks. they are terrible. this new connector looks even more durable

Never had any micro-USB break. Maybe you guys are a little rough on them?

So much sturm and drang over a cable!

Yes, we will need an adaptor for extant docks and such, and unless the adaptors cost a fortune (which I doubt), I don't quite see the problem.

Much emotional intensity expended on a cable.

I will avoid the "first world..." cliche, but it does seem a tad excessive.

Just saying...;):D

What a stupid looking plug... Seriously... Those contacts being exposed like that are gonna be scratched, scuffed, whathaveyou... And it'll be so easy to just be touching something and short out...

It'll come with a transparent 'cap' to protect it when not in use.

Looking forward to the launching of this marvelous product! the suspense is killing me!

Wow, 7 pages and counting for a connector... Only Apple fans...

And what's with this alleged photo? I think it's pretty obviously a real photo.

Changing the dock connector might render the new iPhone useless in cars with respective integration. Bluetooth will obviously still work, but when you've dropped a couple of hundreds on the integration, you'll think twice about switching to the new iPhone. I hope they'll either not change the connector or provide a solution with adapters.

Oooooowww! Look at that picture of a cable. Talk about excitement. I can hardly wait.

I bet there will be some kind of adapter. But it will probably have to use active circuitry so it will probably cost $29.

The other issue is that it would also have to support the phone as well, if it was an actual dock adapter.

If Apple doesn't make an adapter, someone else will.

Support, as in hold the phone? Not a problem with the headphone jack on the bottom. Dock connector plus headphone plug would be fairly sturdy.

I'm sure there will be an adapter of some sort.

And honestly who cares so much about the 30 pin? It's been around for over 10 years. Time to move on to something smaller. I use my cable just to charge. 99% of the time I'm using bluetooth in the car or Airplay for media.

Maybe it's just me, but I don't recall ever seeing this many possible leaks ahead of a product launch before...

So much for doubling down on secrecy. Steve never would have allowed this. It looks exactly the same but taller! Apple is doomed.;):apple:

I'm glad they are finally dropping the worst connector design in history.

No doubt! Thank goodness they are replacing it with another proprietary connector though, would hate to see something as blah as micro usb like the rest of the mobile phone world uses. ;)
