I don't care about the shape of the connector.

I do care about higher transmission speeds.

Of course there will be. And only 29.99.

Probably 9.99, like the MagSafe 2 adaptor. Though it would be nice if Apple included one in the box.

USB 3 maybe at least?

The advantage is that accessories and docks have so much more available to them than just USB (i.e. serial, video, audio, etc).

Edit: And, you answered your own question... video adapters are only even possible because video is available on that connector, instead of it just being a USB connector.

This new cable is 9 pins, which is the same amount of pins USB 3.0 has. If the dock connector is just USB, then Apple is probably expecting you to use the headphone jack/bluetooth/airplay for A/V.

I agree...there does seem to be quite a few leaks. Not so much for the rumored iMac update.

Macs have smaller production runs that start closer to release. iPhones have to be made in vast quantities, so its much easier for their parts to leak.

man I want this iphone so bad! But i am still unclear as to which carrier to get it for!

AT&T if you're an individual. Verizon if you have a lot of people with smartphones or really like LTE. Sprint if you want quantity over quality.

Honestly, I'd go with Sprint and wait for them to get LTE going. For full disclosure, I'm on a family share with Verizon and I have unlimited data. I might stick with it-LTE is very worth it-and get an unsubsidized phone, since I will end up spending more over the life of the contract by switching plans. It sucks, but...

Changing the dock connector might render the new iPhone useless in cars with respective integration. Bluetooth will obviously still work, but when you've dropped a couple of hundreds on the integration, you'll think twice about switching to the new iPhone. I hope they'll either not change the connector or provide a solution with adapters.

Adapters are inevitable but god...... integrated audio cables in cars are so yesterday.
USB has been available in cars for years now.

Not sure this can be real, at least not as pictured. Shouldn't there be a metal housing around the new end, making the "9th pin?"

Looks like metal to me.

Seriously, can we buy these part leakers nicer cameras and some photography lessons?

every part leak is controlled. in every photo we get a glimps, a corner, or a blurred image. it's obvious who is doing the leaking... oh did they leak this to ilounge? oh... how convenient.

Do dudes wear the Minnie Mouse costumes? I've often wondered this while taking a family picture with Minnie and 'she' has her arm around me. I'm not hating, just wondering if maybe it's a balding, short guy and not a hot 20 year old college girl.

LOL, actually, yes, men are allowed to play Minnie (and other female characters) as long as they meet the height requirement. I've only met two guys who have played Minnie Mouse in all my years at Disney and, truth be told, they played the role a lot better than some of the girls do. Maleficent (the villain from Sleeping Beauty) is often played by men because the role calls for someone who is tall, but the guys playing that character must also pass the "face audition" in order to be considered for the role. With that said, Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Daisy, and Chip & Dale are played by women 99% of the time.

I've been lucky to not have to wear masks most of the time. Here are some pics of me at work. :)

How about some following your own standards, Apple?

Magsafe. Now Magsafe 2 (not compatible).
Display port
Mini Displayport,
Thunderbolt.

The list goes on.
For God's sake, they don't even stick to their own proprietary connectors!
They like to sell cables and adapters.

How about using the micro USB standard, eh Apple?

Maybe it's just me, but I don't recall ever seeing this many possible leaks ahead of a product launch before...

Probably because this new version has the most hardware changes. It's hard to contain when so many components are involved.

EXACTLY. I hate apples proprietary crap. I now have TONS of cables to replace with the launch of this new phone.

If this is an original Apple lead, then to me it looks longer than the one that comes with the current iPhone.

Will this new cable with the smaller connection address the cable fraying problem? In that the white sleeve disconects itself from the charging end allowing you to see the wires inside

I'd be very surprised if they'd not change the dock connector, so I stopped hoping and just got myself a new iPhone 4S (upgrade from 4). I have so many 3rd party accessories like docks, chargers, car integration, alarm clock, office radio with dock and so on that the new connector killed my plans to upgrade to the new iphone.

I really enjoy the simplicity given by the old universal connector, being able to charge iPhone, iPod or even iPad with one single charger. Someone always had a connector cable with him should I have forgotten mine. Been in a hotel lately where they even had iphone sound docks in every room, so I was able to listen to my own music, great! All that is no longer possible or gets a lot more complicated with the new connector.

I honestly doubt that all the 3rd party accessory manufacturers will provide adapters, they may rather try to sell a new device.

I bet there will be some kind of adapter. But it will probably have to use active circuitry so it will probably cost $29.

The other issue is that it would also have to support the phone as well, if it was an actual dock adapter.

You have that right. From looking at the pin assignments in the 30-pin connector on public forums, if they want backward compatibility the cable to these new 8-pin connectors it will have it's own interface converter be it analog or digital.

This is just a guess but my take is that one pin is USB power, another an interface ID pin and the rest of the pins change function based on the ID pin. Thus we can have pins be video, audio, serial, USB and most probably Thunderbolt.

Display port, Mini Display Port, and Thunderbolt are not proprietary.

really? worst connector design in history? That connector is also partly responsible for the biggest 3rd party accessory market on the planet. its sturdy and atleast for me indestructible. Everyone says "micro usb micro usb micro usb!" micro usb is GARBAGE. between me and my gf weve had like 5 microusb ports break on our mophie juicepacks. they are terrible. this new connector looks even more durable

Did it occur to you that the port was installed flimsily? Last I checked, this doesn't happen in Android phones. My WebOS still is still running strong.
