aaaand Hackenberg still sucks... What the heck was Macagnan thinking taking him in the second round? aaaah the joys of being a Jets fan

They are calling this the minor leagues of The NFL. The idea is this league is a proving ground to the next step.

this was actually a pretty smart strategy, by placing it this way its like they are in cooperation with the NFL and not competing against the NFL. They might succeed because of this.... especially if a couple of players get invited to NFL training camps as a result of their play in the AAF.

I watched about half an hour of the San Diego-San Antonio game, and it really wasn't all that bad. Seemed like quite a few fans turned out, but I'll be curious to see if they can hold onto that level of interest as the season progresses.

I think the territorial allocations to the teams is an interesting take - how each team is assigned collegiate and NFL teams for bringing on players. Seems like it would make trades almost out of the question, depending on how rigidly they held to that.

Looks like the AAF couldn't make payroll after week 1 and they had to sell the league. So its no longer owned by Bill Polian and Co. New owner is some NHL guy from Carolina.... Had it not been for his 250Mil buyout the league would not have made it to week 2.

How do you not know the league is out of money after a week?

How do you not know the league is out of money after a week?

They were probably so highly leveraged with all the set up costs and overestimated the cash coming in from first week attendance.

I think they should have waited a bit after the superbowl to kind of give people time to miss football a bit. Starting the week right after the superbowl was a bad move.

So a new football league begins this weekend. Are you going to watch it?

Some rule changes...

1. No kickoffs. Teams will get the ball on the 25.
2. No onside kicks. Teams will be given the ball on their own 28. It is fourth and 12. Must convert in order to maintain possession.
3. Must go for 2 point conversion after touchdowns.
4. Field goals only in regulation, not allowed in OT.
5. There is an extra ref in the press boxes that can call penalties that the on field refs miss.
6. Playclock is 35 seconds instead of 40.
7. In OT, each team gets one possession. It is first and goal from the 10. Games can end in ties.

I’m over football, but I do like the rule changes. :)

So, the league appears to be dead. First they couldn't make payroll and had to be sold. Now reports say that all league operations are suspended as they ran out of money.

That's too bad.

After the first week of games, it became hard to find a game on TV - all the games seemed to be on regional networks or other networks that either aren't available in my area, or that I'm not subscribed to.

What is Johnny Manziel going to do now? Seems he burned all his bridges with the CFL so that he could bail and play for the AAF :)
Well the XFL is coming back next year. Not sure how they will fair after this league went bust.

Not sure how he will fair either. He hasn't been any better for the CFL and AAF than he was in Cleveland :)

The XLF, like the AAF will probably need the NFL partner with them as a developmental league to survive. The AAF seemed to do things a little back *sswards though, being a Tech Company that happens to own a football league and too much of the football part seemed to be an afterthought.

I can't help but think the NFL could help them out a just a little bit.. if they're not already.

Yeah, I just can't understand how he keeps pooping the bed wherever he goes.

Yeah, I just can't understand how he keeps pooping the bed wherever he goes.

Montreal has only said that he “contravened the agreement which made him eligible to play in the league" and the CFL has informed all its teams that it will not issue a contract for Manziel to play in the league again.

I wouldn't be surprised if he intentionally forced Montreal's hand in releasing him so that he could go back to the USA and play for the AAF, but he may have wanted to see if that league was going to survive year 1 first. I am not sure if anyone in the XFL will want him. He wasn't exactly lighting the NFL, CFL or AAF on fire.
