I'm a 175-180mm wrist. I ordered the L which fits but the hook is pretty close to the end (6 or so away?).
The M is perfect - loop is right around the center of the band. There is less play between the two straps as with this sizing.

Yeah the M’s seem to be the hardest to find at the moment. I walked into the Apple Store earlier hoping to find the green Alpine in a M with no luck. I did manage to snag the last Orange one in M though. Only S & L left in all colors at my local store.

The M sizes also have the longest waits for order right now on Apple’s site.

Same. I grabbed the orange in M, they had the green in L and S. Very glad I had a backup ultra order with the ocean band!

I had preordered the Medium Orange Alpine Loop from Apple with an 10/10 - 10/17 date and surprised I will already receive it on 9/28

Would definitely agree with this. I have a 160mm wrist and got the small which is right on the edge. I still have 8 or so loops left to make it larger. The only difficulty you might face is getting larger hands through the loop to put it on but if you'r in between definitely size down versus up.

very likely you'll be able to find it in store before if you really want it. I was pretty surprised there was still a decent amount of ultra bands in stock when I went to the store just now.

I have very similar wrist size as OP. Initially ordered large but cancelled for the medium green alpine loop a couple days later. My order won’t arrive till next week but I’m glad I made the right decision.

The Apple Store's in Southern California still have the band in stock and even offer same day courier delivery. I wear a size 7 in the braided solo loop and size 8 in the solo loop. I had been deciding between S or M but ultimately went with the M.

Thats where I got my orange Alpine loop in M - Santa Monica.

I chose the Orange Alpine Loop band in M with my Ultra and I think it’s terrible. Currently using the Hermes Orange Spots band and it looks amazing.

I’ll gladly sell it to anyone for $85 via PayPal Gift. I’ll add it to the marketplace forum tomorrow with pics so that I dont break any rules on here lol.

Due to colour or design in general? Awaiting mine but starting to wish I grabbed the green

The orange color is great, but the design isn’t. The titanium buckle is going to scratch many people’s watches and/or computers. I wish I went with the Ocean band, but oh well.

Somebody in another thread pointed out that you may actually want the hook to be near the watch, rather than the center of the bottom of your wrist, for when using laptops. They pointed out the hook on the bottom could scratch up the aluminum on MacBooks, which I thought was a great point.

I’m about 170-175 and ordered a medium so I’m glad I went in that direction.

I actually ordered the Starlight about 9 pm tonight for 10 AM pickup tomorrow at my local Apple Store. My Ultra came with the Midnight Ocean band that I really like but I decided I wanted something that didn’t look like it and figured the light color Alpine Loop was a good choice.

Ocean band in midnight is really great. The color really pairs well with the watch

any reason for that? The larger overlap felt less secure (or at least moved around more) and right in the middle looked best to me.

If your loop is in the center, it is going to bang on things, rattle when typing on computer, etc. Obviously you found what you like better though, which is all that matters.

Ohh yeah good point. It’s never been an issue for me, I have the link bracelet which is all metal and never worried. The metal clasp on the alpine is pretty tight to the bracelet so I can’t imagine it would cause issue but who knows.

170mm wrist here and M Alpine fits perfect.

I was all set to return my AWU with Alpine to get one with midnight Ocean instead, because I wasn't thrilled with the Alpine, but today the Alpine is growing on me.

The big issue was the watch felt loose on my wrist, and there didn’t seem to be a way to get it just right, like with the Sport Loops. But I found I had to cinch it down tighter than initially seemed right, and the watch stops moving around. And it’s not too tight.

But man is it fiddly to get on/off, haha!!

Good thing it has a longer battery life so hopefully you won’t be taking it off / putting it on as often.

I have a 155mm wrist and I got the size S. I hooked the clasp to the 6th or 7th slot from the other end of the strap. I don’t like too much excess band (the sport loop would wrap almost all the way around my wrist and it was annoying).

The only issue is when taking it on and off as I need to pull the clasp all the way to the end and it hits the watch all the time. Haven’t seen a dent or scratch yet but I’m wondering whether I should change to size M.

This is the position I hook the clasp

That’s the thing…my AW comes off twice a day, minimum. Once after a workout to shower, and again as I’m getting into bed (I don’t do sleep tracking). With the Alpine, you have to be careful not to open it too quick, otherwise the hook slams into the watch.

It comes down to this in my mind: With the AWU+Alpine, I want to buy an extra Ocean band. If I had the AWU+Ocean, I wouldn’t buy an Alpine.

I'm close in size to the OP, but I find the L perfect. It's convenient to open enough to get my hand through when putting it on and taking off. Also, as another member mentioned, I prefer the hook to be towards the side rather than in the middle of the wrist.

Agreed- I have an M Alpine loop and the hook winds up exactly where it it supposed to- BUT it can touch the edge of my MacBooks. A large size would have put the hook closer to the watch and prevented this potential issue.

I got my Apple Watch Ultra with the S Orange Alpine Loop but have a little trouble getting the band over my hand. Once, on wrist it is fine! I already have a M on order and it should be here 9/28.
