Oh god please no, its bad enough at the moment with phone scrolling zombies, walking around staring at their phones, oblivious to everything around them.

I think most people who have a 13 Pro would see little point in upgrading but this is Mac Rumours where lots of people seem to upgrade every year lol. The 14 Pro is a lovely device by the looks and not massively dissimilar to the 13 Pro in all honesty. Some nice incremental features. I’ve just bought a 13 Pro and pretty chuffed I went with it instead of the 14 or 14 Pro as it’s got all the features I’ve never had before that I’m enjoying using. I’ve adjusted my strategy going forward to buy the previous years Pro as it’s a nice little saving and it’s enough if an upgrade

The landscape face unlock works great. Haven’t properly tried the ProRaw, will try that tomorrow. The days of upgrades as significant as the Treo to iphone are truly behind us😢
On the plus side, that also means the days of devices being as bad as the Treo are behind us 😛

especially if you’re coming from iPhone 13 Pro like me.
Well there you go. 😂 It’s been well established that yearly updates are iterative and won't be that significant for those with -1 version. You will need to wait at least for the 15 or 16 to get at least some updated design based in Apple's track record.

The thing is that there’s only so much excitement and joy one can derive from a status bar.

If you upgraded just for the status bar....

People need to realise that year to year updates are incremental and not really aimed at last year's owner.

these phones last 2-3 years or more, if you're upgrading in 12 months and expecting big things you aren't going to get them.

Its a phone, its not meant to entertain you unless you count videos and games etc, go outside see the real world, the phone is a tool its not meant to be an object of endless joy...
Yeah if I didn’t need one for my business I would rather just use a iPad.

Same honestly this appears to me the smallest upgrade to the iPhone.

The dynamic island is nice. I still need to test out the camera though.

But as an iUP customer i cannot complain about upgrading every year.

Thats why i wonder when Apple will stop giving iPhone number in the end, will just call it the new iPhone every couple year
Same as a shower thought I had before. Maybe this will be an approach, just like the iPad. They barely add numbers in the end (except for the iPad 2 (2011) and iPad Air 2 (2014)), instead, they simply just call the iPad products their own name, referring by size (like iPad Pro 12.9-inch), "x-nd generation", or the year, such as "iPad mini (6th-generation)", even though I would refer it to iPad Mini 2021 or iPad mini 6.

However, idk if Apple will jump to this marketing strategy since iPhone is the hottest topic every year, and showing the number is probably a marketing strategy of showing, "hey look, this is 14, the new one!" And of course, in their marketing materials, they will somehow highlight the number by referring to it as "14 Pro" instead of "iPhone 14 Pro" and make the text very big. I remember I saw a giant "11 Pro" in the landscape poster inside an Apple Store. So as the "14 Pro" on the current website (https://www.apple.com/iphone-14-pro/).

I was not expect a huge leap in technology but when Apple offers me $720 for a trade in on my old 13 PM, it was a new 14 PM for sure. Now if I could get my hands on my Ultra . . . .

Until technology advances, new features will be hard to find, just like our last 3-4 iPhones.

I am using a iPhone 12 Pro Max, I have no interest in upgrading my iPhone until the IPhone 16 pro max.
If you bought the 14 Pro for the dynamic island and not the cameras then I have no idea what to tell you. Just return the device, you bought it for the wrong reasons.
I DID buy it for the DI. I was desperate and sold my iPhone 13 Max because this is as close as I will be to becoming an Islander 🏝 in my life

I feel like the upgrade from iPhone 12 Pro ->13 Pro might be the smallest one, but since I didn't own a 12 Pro, I can't really tell. The Dynamic Island on 14P is definitely a bigger update from a notch on 13P compared to just decreasing the size of the notch from 12P to 13P.

But the reason I'm updating from 13PM to 14PM is mainly because of the camera, and Dynamic Island & Always On Display as two big bonuses. While I know that the level of excitement is less than my 11PM->13PM update. Almost the same size (a slightly bigger screen and fewer bezels are nice, though), and I even picked the same color.

I almost upgrade every year as well. Usually, I will be very excited when updating iPhones since I either skip a generation, pick a different configuration, or the update is actually a leap forward. 3GS to 4 is a big (probably the biggest) one; 4 to 4s is meh except Siri, I planned to upgrade to 5 while got a 4s as a gift in November 2012 when the 5 is already out; 4s to 5 in just two months after and I gave my 4s to my family; 5 to 5s is cool with Touch ID; 5s to 6s is cool with 3D Touch and bigger screen; 6s 4.7-inch to 7 Plus is cool because of the better camera and bigger screen; 7P to X for the win, X to XS Max for the size, XS Max to 11PM for the camera, and 11PM to 13PM for the camera. This year for me is probably the smallest one, but I can't tell until when I got the phone on Monday.

I actually think that $720 is way less than my current 13 Pro Max 1TB actually worth, especially since I protected it very well and it is in very good condition. Last year I traded in my 11PM through Apple. It's very convenient but I think if I sell it I may get $100 more. This year I definitely should sell it by myself.

‘My 13PM was only 512gb and was happy to get the $720 trade when buying my 14PM with 1TB.

‘’’I prefer to do the Ap;le trade in every year as selling can be a pain and there is alway some risk. Apple has always given me the max amount without fail.

My wife is upgrading from 12 pro to 14 pro so that seems to be a nice upgrade. My aunt upgraded from a 6 to a 13 now that is a substantial upragde!

Meh, I’m gonna sound fickle but I only upgraded from my sierra blue because of the purple.

I’ve been waiting for a dark purple for years and if it hadn’t happened, I wasn’t getting a phone this year.

And now that I finally have my purple, I’ll be keeping it for a while.

While I certainly am not in any position to tell people how to spend their money, I can’t see how buying a new phone every year would be that exciting these days. I mean, don’t get me wrong, I’m loving my new 14 Pro, but I’m also coming from a 11 Pro Max. I tend to keep my phones for a pretty long time. In fact before my 11 Pro Max I used a iPhone 8 Plus, and the only reason I upgraded from that is because my fathers phone broke so I gave him my 8 Plus and took the 11 PM. I would have probably kept it longer, had I did that I would’ve probably been using a 12PM or 13PM right now.

Regardless, I’m gaining:

5G, which is a pretty big one for me. As much as I loved the 11 series, the Intel modems were pretty much trash and having 5G is pretty nice now, especially for future proofing.

120hz screen, this one is also a given.

Dynamic island is pretty cool. It reminds me of a fancy made android notification bar which is pretty welcomed. In the grand scheme of things though, it’s really just a repurposed better thoughtfully done notch. I like it, but if I was using a 13 series it wouldn’t be a must have for me.

New cameras are a given of course. But I’m also moving to a new form factor. I went back to a “regular sized” iPhone and definitely appreciating the viable one handed usability again.

I’d like to see if I could go 4 years on this phone, but I went 3 years on the 11 PM. I could have probably kept it another year honestly, but I felt with the 5G and 120hz screen it was time.

I absolutely wouldn’t have upgraded with a 13 though.
