IOS 16 is going to annihilate the iphone 13, as IOS 17 will with the 14, I don't know what you are worried about😄, my 13 pro max has had a noticeable reduction in battery life with IOS 16

At the end of the day Dinamyc Island it's literally just a redesigned status bar. Even if its implementation is fantastic, how much is your user experience really influenced by it?

I think this is the real question of DI: how much does it change, and in this case does it change the user experience for better or worse?

Because if there is a clear point about DI it is that it is not here to stay, it will accompany us for a few years, maybe even less (considering that Apple has modified the notch ONLY for the 13 series), but it has already modified iOS: the notifications start from the bottom, and it can be useful because clickable with a thumb, but then why do you make me a clickable status bar at the top and center? Why do you erase me some interesting features to put me in that stupid lock screen game with the same operating logic as the Apple Watch, which is a device with intrinsic limits, on a device that limits should have less?

So at the end of it all, if the DI will be evaluate in all the changes made and the different user experience and not just taken individually as a place to make your Tamagotchi live, is it really a step forward or is it three steps back? What users care about is an iPhone 13/iOS 15 with no visible notch, not an iPhone 14/iOS 16 with DI and all the user experience upside down, also because DI only works on one product, the rest of the range (Mac, iPad) has notch or Touch ID.

Not sure you know how AR works.

It means you can look at the real world with important things overlaid, not be looking down all the time.
I know exactly how AR works thank you. Just because it is overlaid, people will still be looking at data / images, rather than interacting with the real world and people. I know Apple are working on AR glasses, but to be honest I really hope that it will be a miserable failure. AR / VR is one step closer to the future human race as represented on WALL.E IMO. It’s bad enough at the moment with walking phone scrolling zombies.

I love my pro Max. I had the X, so it was time to update, specially because the battery was bad and Face ID was broken.
Kind of tired of reading so many users that need to complain even though they have last year model. Also why do you need to buy a phone every year, it’s a computer, like why would you update your MacBook every year (still going strong with my MacBook Pro 2014). It’s good if you can update every year, but don’t expect miracles every year.
So many spoilt people in this world, that needs to complain about everything. Get a perspective please….

Interesting point you are making OP, and I understand your personal experience given the "incremental change".

I moved from a 12 Pro Max, 512gb silver to a 14 Pro Deep Purple 256gb. Aside from the proportion differences and colour changes, under the hood the changes in this generational jump I am happy to have paid for. I think the main reason for my change at this stage (which had a small Apple fanboy factor to it) was the number of changes and the desire (versus need) for my most used device better fit me. A smaller form factor, lower storage (never went over 200gb use so 256gb made sense and reduced the cost to change factor) and the additional features and power made sense.

I think the point we are both coming to is that changing annually makes less sense financial, ecologically and practically (in most cases). I think every other year or 3rd year feels more appropriate in the current "upgrade" thin year on year changes.

‘So it is your 7th post and you are already getting down on posters here. You need to remember that there are all kinds of people here with different needs and wants.

This is understandable as the YoY changes are small. And I agree with others, we’re at the pinnacle of smartphones where expected major changes or big exciting features are long gone. However, Dynamic Island is a truly neat workaround and great use of space and something fresh and truly different. I am such a tech head that when I’m finished with med school (18 months!) I’ll upgrade every year because I just like new tech. I still look at my 13 Pro every day and admire the design and feel. Plus it’s a just a damn good phone in every way.

NGL I was mesmerized by the ingenuity of Dynamic Island when I first saw it during the keynote. I looked forward to the new iPhone but most of all looked forward to “taking a trip” to Dynamic Island. Well, the trip was sweet and short.

When what you have to look forward to on the latest iPhone is a black spot at the top of the screen, you know it's time to take a break from the annual purchasing reflex.

At some point you realize that your smartphone is not a toy, it's a tool. You get a new one to do some task that you could not with the previous one. If you get a new one and do the same tasks you will be disappointed.

True. The days of “checking out” phones are over. I just want the Ipp. My wife got hers yesterday and I want a new shiny toy also.I want the Aod, better camera, brighter nits, night sight, action mode, etc.

EXACTLY. The difference from my 12 to my first pro 14 is very noticeable to me. People can hate all they want, but my gosh what do you expect upgrading every year? You will NEVER appreciate any major changes that way. The only way nowadays to truly appreciate the new phones is to wait 2-3 years.

As I told a friend, this is the second smallest upgrade for me, coming from a standard iPhone 12 (smallest was a 7+ to 8+, where I got True Tone, more battery life, and inductive charging).

The biggest thing for me that I know I’ll notice occasionally is just having more RAM. 4GB was starting to feel the pinch a little, especially if I used the camera.

Yes, phones are a little boring because it all just works and Apple’s pretty much got it down to a science, but sometimes that’s a good thing. I go with Apple stuff because it just works and I don’t have to troubleshoot it when that’s my day job on the PC side.

My 12 battery improved under iOS 16. I think the phone had a calibration error or some issue causing a minor parasitic drain.

The landscape face unlock works great. Haven’t properly tried the ProRaw, will try that tomorrow. The days of upgrades as significant as the Treo to iphone are truly behind us

Lol. The treo to first iPhone was more of a downgrade. iPhone 3g and App Store? Different story.

Is it your first year on year upgrade? It is for me as well, and I had a similar feeling.

Previously, I went from an iPhone 11 to the 13 Pro Max. Hell of an upgrade. I was expecting the same thing this time going from the 13 Pro Max to the 14 Pro Max. After upgrading I do wonder if it was worth it. It's definitely a better phone, just not the same level of change.

But I can sell my 13 Pro Max and recoup a decent amount since it is in pristine condition, not to mention I also saved on tax as I purchased the phone through salary sacrifice with work.

I suppose what I'm getting now is the satisfaction of always being on the latest, not dealing with any battery degradation, and selling my old device before it depreciates any further. It's just a different feeling to doing a huge upgrade.
Same here. I’m coming from a 13 Pro Max and I noticed very very little difference in the pictures. And with apples new processing sometimes the 13 actually looks better. I’m really surprised. It’s a very very minor upgrade.

There are eight cases where it is better. The processing/clarity on the Ultra Wide and the telephoto are a lot better because I believe they increased the sensor size on the Ultra Wide. It makes a noticeable difference. They definitely improved that camera. And 48 Meadow megapixel shots in bright light are quite nice. Good for landscapes. So it’s an upgrade… But it’s a very minor upgrade.

Side-by-side images, I could barely tell the difference between the iPhone, 13 pro and 14 pro in many cases.

The 13 Pro was already that good. But even a 12 takes really good pictures.

I wouldn’t have upgraded to the 13 is my answer. Oh wait. I didn’t. 120hz screen was it. Wasn’t worth it.

But now I get that plus the iPhone 14 updates.

Even so dynamic island was the thing that had me hesitating. I’m still not sure I like it yet. However that’s the ui for now and maybe pro only.

But promotion. Brighter screen for better hdr. Better camera in areas but minor imo. Other little minor things.

It’s likely I’ll wait another two years at least. Maybe longer. My interest in phones definitely has decreased. Still with the discounts I get and selling old one, I basically break even just about anyways.

Yeah I'm already having buyers remorse, I went from 11 Pro Max to a 14 Pro and I can no longer use the zoom view and show the contact photos in iMessage because my screen is too small.
If you're debating whether to downgrade screen size I'm telling you now don't do it, wait until November when you can get the Pro Max screens.

a very underwhelming iPhone, especially if you’re coming from iPhone 13 Pro like me.
I personally don't upgrade annually, and so the changes are more significant. I'll be skipping this and looking for the 15.

As for getting bored, I think my perspective is different, I don't buy phones to be entertained by them, so there's no chance for them to get boring. I find them useful and more of a tool. That's just me, I know everyone is different.

Yea this is why upgrading every year isn't really ideal. People upgrade every year and think the new iPhones are going to have revolutionary features and that just isn't the case. I upgrade every 2-3 years so upgrading is more significant. So for me coming from the 11 pro max, the 14 pro max is a worthy upgrade.

I am not sure what people who upgrade every year are really expecting.. If you have the previous year's iPhone you should know the following year's phone will most likely just be small refinements and is targeted towards apple users with older phones.
