Ordered my 8+ right after it became available (had done all my preorder stuff beforehand). Now I'm second-guessing myself. I'm on the IUP, but had to out of pocket the tax and an up front payment. It's not like it's a ton of money or anything, but I have a 7+ and it's in mint condition.

Was this just a really dumb move? I mean I love the latest and greatest, but I originally thought this might be the first year I'd skip getting a new phone, then I got wrapped up in it all, but now I'm thinking I might've jumped the gun (and no I don't want an X).

Thoughts?

Anyone with a 7 line shouldn't be upgrading to an 8. Only upgrade to 8 if 6S or below is my opinion.

In other words, upgrade every other year. Yearly upgrades are just dumb.

Edit: Thats why im not getting an X, cause i know next years model is gonna be much improved and i don't wanna be stuck with this POS.

I think with any high value purchase, you sometimes have that gut reaction of "OMG, what did i just do". If you can afford it financially then i would chalk it up to a lessons learned. If you are really bothered by it, you have the option to either return within 14 days of receiving or cancelling your existing order and you will get your money back. I would sleep on it for another night or two before deciding what to do. Sometimes it's easier to make an informed decision after a "cool down" period.

The 8+ is a big upgrade over the 7. Most people disagree because of the looks, but the processor, camera, wireless charging will all be better. Don't second guess yourself :)

Yes, you already singed the IUP and payed the tax and downpayment. It will be a pain to reverse it all now.
I know its easy to get carried away with the exciting new release.
Next time I'd suggest to take some more time to review your needs and compared what you have with the new upgrade and if the price tag is worth it to you and decide if its better going for it or holding on to your current device.

You've already taken the credit check hit, so I would just stick with it and learn from it. We all get super excited around this time though so it's understandable.

It depends on the person and what they value. I dont think its a big upgrade from the i7 at all. The better processor is nice to have.
I dont care about the improved camera, the one in my 7 Plus is more than enough and takes great pics and video.
And I dont plan on using wireless charging, I have ipad chargers that charge it nice and fast without heating up my device like a hot potato with Qi heating pads :D

I thought I really did think about it a good bit. I had myself thinking I didn't really need it, then I looked at the upgrades and thought "hell, I've upgraded for less." ;-p

Anyway, I might give myself through the weekend and cancel if I don't feel any better about it by Monday. I know once it arrives that's all she wrote. I just love all things new and pretty.

Another thing I got to thinking about is the software update, and how I'm likely gonna feel like I have a new phone once I update mine. It made me realize I probably didn't need to do this.

I’m upgrading from a 7Plus to the 8Plus and don’t have any second thoughts. Here is the way I look at it. I’m getting a new phone, for a year, for $58 dollars in tax and $3 dollars more a month. I was already paying the monthly fee for IUP. So for $90 for the entire year, I have a new toy. It’s really not a lot of money.

I haven't purchased it but i have a second quest myself about iphone or try note 8. The sceeen on note 8 is amazing.

When you start updating new ios, it's gonna make your new iphone feel older.

I would never tell someone it is bad to upgrade. I just don't necessarily get giving back the old one.

What if you don't like it or it has flaws, or someone else in the family ends up needing a phone?

When I do upgrade in 1 year (most of the time but not last year), I keep the previous phone too.

Sure, but objectively it's a better phone. Whether you need the things it's better at is up to you :)

Well when you are part of an upgrade program, you have to pay off the device to keep it.

If I absolutely needed a backup phone. Then sure I would pay it off, keep it and start a new IUP. But I really don’t need a second device, even as a backup. So I will save paying off the $500.

Don't see why you are upgrading to an Iphone 8. Maybe cancel your order and wait for iOS 11 to come out and see how you like your phone.

F****** FINALLY Someone hit the nail on the head. THIS IS EXACTLY MY THOUGHT PROCESS. I'm holding out for the X as I have a 7 plus now and I'm ready for a change.

I'm not paying $1000 for a phone, I'm paying the monthly iUP fee, which for the X is 590 (64) and 675 (256) give or take for a year. Then, I'll upgrade to the next. Not bad, AT ALL.

I'm not going from the 7 Plus to the 8. But I wouldn't call anyone who is 'dumb.' Everyone has different reasons to buy a new phone. In my case I'm flipping to Android for a year (Samsung S8+) because I've grown tired of the big bezels and want a new toy. Plus I'm on the AT&T upgrade program. The X will probably be hard to get before next year and I'm not sold on the design.

What objectively matters to me when Im spending around $900 for a device is if I need the added things/improvements from my current device.
Offcourse a newer iphone is always going to be better than last years model ;)

S8 plus and note 8 has great screen...

Personally, I think it's a dumb move. I am not sure why anyone would go from the 7 to the 8.

For roughly $3 more a month, my wife now has the following additional features over her old 7:
  • 25% faster processor
  • wireless charging
  • better camera
  • double her old storage
  • slightly better battery life
not very hard to understand why upgrading isn't a hard choice for those who have a IPhone 7

You are getting an incredible new iPhone. No, it wasn't a dumb move. Enjoy it.

Yeah but you're paying the whole thing by monthly unless you upgrade again and you would renew that payment 24 months which increases from upgrading. So another word you're enslaved to paying monthly for life till your pay the last phone up.

Well, you do have a return window.

Usually, second-guessing yourself means you probably shouldn't have bought.

And your current phone is fine...so why buy only an incrementally better phone...a mere year later?

"It's a sickness..." as a former co-worker used to say for situations like this. :)
