Anyway, I might give myself through the weekend and cancel if I don't feel any better about it by Monday. I know once it arrives that's all she wrote. I just love all things new and pretty.

Definitely taking the time to think about it may help put things into perspective and help you decide what you want to do.

For this very reason, this is why I'm holding off on deciding whether I'm going to upgrade my 7 or just keep it.

I will say that once you get the device in your possession, it will be hard to let it go.

Anyone with a 7 line shouldn't be upgrading to an 8. Only upgrade to 8 if 6S or below is my opinion.

In other words, upgrade every other year. Yearly upgrades are just dumb.

Edit: Thats why im not getting an X, cause i know next years model is gonna be much improved and i don't wanna be stuck with this POS.

I agree with you. But my carrier allows you to trade in your old phone after 12 months payment. So in short I pay the same monthly cost as before (maybe 2 dollar more) and I trade in my iPhone 7 plus for a 8 plus. If I didn't have this option I wouldn't upgrade this year.

Yeah but you're paying the whole thing by monthly unless you upgrade again and you would renew that payment 24 months which increases from upgrading. So another word you're enslaved to paying monthly for life till your pay the last phone up.
Okay? I upgrade yearly anyway. Have since the iPhone 3G. So I was paying regardless.

Its just like leasing a car, you upgrade every 3/4 years and you never stop having a car payment but your driving something newer and safer.

I have no problem upgrading my phone every year so this is a non issue for me.

That's your choice. I rather pay up all at once and not worry about monthly payment.

Which is fine, thats your choice. My thinking is your out that money off the bat and you never recoup it off a resale so why hand them all of it at once?

I think that any of the new iPhones are a worthy upgrade. This coming from a guy who upgraded from a mint iPhone 7 to the iPhone 8.

You mean to tell me that for only about $350, I won't ever have to plug in a wire to charge my iPhone?! - Shut up and take my money. This was my sole reason for upgrading and 100% worth it in my eyes. Huge convenience factor. Probably the biggest reason to ever update an iPhone from my point of view.

Well, my intent wasn't about recouping off the resale. I buy it to use it though.

Except your original post was to someone part of the program. I’m part of the program because I want to upgrade yearly and don’t like the hassle of selling the device after I get my use out of it.

While I agree with all of your points. I wouldn’t classify this as leasing a car. After your lease is up, you’re out the car and the money. Here, you can pay the 24 months and own the device. You aren’t required to trade the car in. Yes you can buy out a lease, but that is usually much more expensive at the end of the day.

Either way, if you or that person is fine with it, that's that.

For roughly $3 more a month, my wife now has the following additional features over her old 7:
  • 25% faster processor
  • wireless charging
  • better camera
  • double her old storage
  • slightly better battery life
not very hard to understand why upgrading isn't a hard choice for those who have a IPhone 7

Thank you! I have an iPhone 7 in near perfect condition and no issues whatsoever. But if I only have to pay an additional $3 to get the latest technology for a phone with TouchID still included (a key reason why I chose the 8 over the X), I'm not going to pass it up. For one additional day a month I will make coffee at home instead of grabbing it on my way to work, then the increased price is already covered.

And not to mention that if I have buyers remorse and want the X I have time to return the 8 to AT&T, get my money and upgrade back, and then preorder on 10/27.

Yes, you already singed the IUP and payed the tax and downpayment. It will be a pain to reverse it all now.
I know its easy to get carried away with the exciting new release.
Next time I'd suggest to take some more time to review your needs and compared what you have with the new upgrade and if the price tag is worth it to you and decide if its better going for it or holding on to your current device.

[doublepost=1505485380][/doublepost]

It depends on the person and what they value. I dont think its a big upgrade from the i7 at all. The better processor is nice to have.
I dont care about the improved camera, the one in my 7 Plus is more than enough and takes great pics and video.
And I dont plan on using wireless charging, I have ipad chargers that charge it nice and fast without heating up my device like a hot potato with Qi heating pads :D

Still think you easily have the opportunity to cancel since have not turned in your old phone yet and if not activated new one.
But, it is not a bad thing to have the new 8 for basically same price as paying for 7 another year.

You also added another year of payments. Unless you want to be in a perpetual phone payment plan.

All the negativity of having a phone payment is really mind-blowing. Everyone has had the phone payment baked into service plans for the last 15+ years. You just didn’t see it as a separate payment. It’s all the same. People like to upgrade yearly. So be it. People don’t need to constantly say “well you always have a phone payment”. Those upgrading yearly are fully aware of it. Let them be.

F****** FINALLY Someone hit the nail on the head. THIS IS EXACTLY MY THOUGHT PROCESS. I'm holding out for the X as I have a 7 plus now and I'm ready for a change.

I'm not paying $1000 for a phone, I'm paying the monthly iUP fee, which for the X is 590 (64) and 675 (256) give or take for a year. Then, I'll upgrade to the next. Not bad, AT ALL.

Wow..and the funny part is that you think it's awesome or you're getting around paying 1k for a phone somehow. I hate to break this to you but you're paying for a phone each year. If you get the X, yes you'll be paying 1000 for a phone.

There's nothing wrong with that if you want to upgrade each year but to imply you're not paying the full amount is silly.

What you can do is use a CC to buy the phone outright and get 5-10% or more off in rewards. Carrier financing at least gets it off your credit report. I don't see the point in using Apple's program.

Totally get it. Just not for me. I don't find the upgrade worth it.

Yes I know back in the days of 2 year contracts it was pointless not to upgrade since you were paying for it in your plan cost anyway. Now you get the benefit of a "discount" for holding onto your phone for longer.

I don't care how people spend their money or how often they upgrade. Just realize you ARE paying more than $3 a month for the privilege.

I’m upgrading from a 7Plus to the 8Plus and don’t have any second thoughts. Here is the way I look at it. I’m getting a new phone, for a year, for $58 dollars in tax and $3 dollars more a month. I was already paying the monthly fee for IUP. So for $90 for the entire year, I have a new toy. It’s really not a lot of money.

This is my exact scenario and I did the exact same thing.

Ordered my 8+ right after it became available (had done all my preorder stuff beforehand). Now I'm second-guessing myself. I'm on the IUP, but had to out of pocket the tax and an up front payment. It's not like it's a ton of money or anything, but I have a 7+ and it's in mint condition.

Was this just a really dumb move? I mean I love the latest and greatest, but I originally thought this might be the first year I'd skip getting a new phone, then I got wrapped up in it all, but now I'm thinking I might've jumped the gun (and no I don't want an X).

Thoughts?

If you had the 7 and wanted to improve because of the size of the display, that would have been a considerable option, but think of it like this: What real world upgrade do you get? It'll be minor. Wait with us for the refined iPhone X and the iPhone 8 successors next year ;) .

That is the idea.
If you are a yearly upgrade then much better way to go. No selling, no trading. Just get new phone.

Also, interest free. So what is difference if pay with cash or payments.

That's fine and totally understandable if you are going to upgrade every year anyway. Some people just think they are somehow saving money over someone paying full retail every year. It's all the same in the end.

Right depends on situation. If not upgrading every year then many not. Still can think off as free finance plan with options. I think better situation too vs using trade in. Right now maybe get $370 trade in and iup get $425 on mine.

If don't like payments then you can payoff the balance anytime which would still be the same as paying in full.
Not making life long commitment.

I'm not talking about paying in full, the poster that I quoted was talking about iup.

I didn't say I thought it was awesome, I was implying that so many people are complain about the price of the new phone when in reality, if they are like me and upgrade every year, the price doesn't really matter... because you are essentially always in a payment plan. So technically yes, I am paying well over $1000 if you add all the years up but its not just on one phone, its spread out a new phone every year.

The highest I've seen for cash back cards (which is all I use) is 2%. Which would be roughly $20 off, please point me in the direction of a 5-10% off card (I'm not being sarcastic, seriously this sounds awesome haha)

Since I upgrade every year, Apples program makes sense for me.

I thought I really did think about it a good bit. I had myself thinking I didn't really need it, then I looked at the upgrades and thought "hell, I've upgraded for less." ;-p

Another thing I got to thinking about is the software update, and how I'm likely gonna feel like I have a new phone once I update mine. It made me realize I probably didn't need to do this.

Why not just wait until you actually get the phone? You have 14 days to return it no questions asked. It costs you nothing extra at this point to try it out.
